Turtle rip it open

Turtle rip it open spent 2 hours filtering my water trying to get the sand like stuff out I think I got most of it after doing a water change but super mad that happened make sure to put it deep in your filter so if you have a turtle they don't get it. It did soften my water so that's the only plus

Actually works!!!

Within 48 hours my betta tank’s water hardness dropped over 100ppm right where it needed to be. And you can “recharge” this so no need to keep repurchasing so often. So glad I found this product, get this if you need to drop your water hardness but don’t want to invest in a ROS!!!

It really works

I got pretty hard water so when I do water changes for the fish every couple weeks i put this pillow in my filter and let it run for about 7 hours since I have a 20 gallon tank that’s about all it need for my target hardness for the kinda fish I got. Just be sure to make the salt water mixture for it when you store it somewhere or they ruin pretty quickly

Worked for 5 gallon tank

I have well water that is very hard. I put this pillow in the filter and just a little over 12 hours there was a dramatic improvement. I'll leave it in just a little longer next time. I didn't give 5 stars for ease of use for a few reasons. It's too big for my extra small filter pump and I couldn't find a smaller one so I did expect that anyways. I removed the carbon filter temporarily, then I just stuffed the pillow into the filter, but not so much as to cause the flow to be blocked. It will stick out at the top because you can't stuff the whole pillow in and left the cover off. When I was done with the pillow I put my carbon filter back in. The only other thing is that the pillow contents are not distributed well in the pillow cover. It wants to collect on one side. Despite all this it is sufficient for my 5.5 gallon set up.

with well water my tanks hardness was higher than average, it seemed to have helped with it when getting under controll

Works Quickly

Product works as described. I quickly fixed my aquariums water hardness in a matter of 24hrs. Would recommend.

Bigger Than I Thought

Purchased for my 3.5G aquarium of fish to soften the water. But, I have a small filter thingy [inside] not on the outside of my tank. So, this pillow took up most of the room with my charcoal cartridges and fluval nitrate/nitrite inserts. Gonna keep it, because it definitely softened the hard water, wayyyy down. Gotta watch my nerite snail, he seemed pretty out of it and lethargic for the 48 hours used. I thought I was going to lose him, but as the same day I removed the pillow, he was active all over again. #breathingEasier

Easier to do water changes with distilled water

This product did slightly lower my aquarium’s general hardness, but it made the water so cloudy I couldn’t stand to use it anymore. I’m also not too sure about the recharge-ability of this item. I used it for a few days and after the cloudiness I decided to research other methods. I do my water changes now with half tap water and half distilled water. That’s been much easier and more successful than using this.

Very effective. Delivered quickly.

This pillow has been in the external filter of my 25 litre nano tank for only about 12 hours, and it has lowered the GH from at least 180 mg/l (the highest my test strips can measure) to approximately zero! In a normal size tank it wouldn't have quite such an extreme effect as this. As I expected it has no effect on KH: this pillow performs ion-exchange of the calcium and magnesium ions, replacing them with sodium ions, but has no effect on the carbonate and bicarbonate ions - hence the reduction in GH but no effect on KH. If your aim is to reduce KH (and hence reduce pH) then this isn't the right product for you. In future I might not keep it in the filter because I don't really want zero GH, and instead drop it into the bucket of water overnight before doing a water change. My tank is newly set up and currently doesn't have any fish in it, so I'm experimenting with my water management. The instructions say to recharge it using a salt solution (sodium chloride), but I intend to try recharging it with a solution of potassium chloride instead. I think this should work, and will result in the pillow releasing potassium ions into my aquarium instead of sodium ions - which will be good for the plants and better for the fish.

Does what it says but really quickly so use with caution

It's rechargeable so you don't have to throw it away after first use which is great. I tried this in a 9 gallon tank and after 3 hours it had brought my GH down from 9 to 4 degrees. Pretty impressive but also a bit sudden for the fish. I had first tried putting this in a saucepan of replacement water to see what it did but the change was tiny. It needs water flow/movement/circulation to work.

Still wondering if this product is worth

The product came well sealed but unfortunately the content was broken so the little yellow magic balls are all over inside the package. Said so, I don't know if this product actually works because I can't even test it. On the other end, a similar product called Nitra-Zorb from API (as well) did work just fine in my past experience.

Works but you'll still have some limescale

Work's tank no longer has really bad limescale marks from evaporation (but got a lid now too so that helps). Some limescale marks do build up but easy to manage with wiping with diluted vinegar once a month and comes right off. Would be nice if it came in a container for storage when not in use, also if it had it's own cage as wont fit in my small filter so have to just leave it in the tank or bucket but all the material bunches up reducing surface area for ion exchange.

It works

Simply, it works after 1 Day with only one in my filter cartridge it nearly halved my GH from over 600ppm (30 degrees) to 350ppm (17 Degrees). Considering this treats only 70L of water and my tank is 110L and it was only in there for 24H im very impressed. After adding another one and after 48 Hours it went down to 142ppm (7Degrees) Only reason for 4/5 Stars is its kinda expensive considering you have to replace it after 3 uses but honestly the most expensive part is the salt you have to buy to recharge em. Kinda wish API would do a little kit with the pillow and the salt for a small discount
