A great option if you have to have a steel cased digital watch
The Rubik has a definite heft with a stainless steel case and a Milanese bracelet. This looks like a direct answer to the Casio A158WA. The watch module itself has some really neat pros but a few cons + The second time zone feature is really nice to have. The Casio A158WA doesn't have this. + There's a full MM-DD-YYYY date display that you can access with a button + Stainless steel case feels solid and hefty (could be a pro or a con.) But it does feel durable. + Milanese bracelet is flexible and pretty good quality for the price. This should be nice in the summer. + I like the acrylic crystal. It's extremely strong and easy to buff out scratches. A mineral glass crystal works better if you have a raised bezel to protect it. + The module clearly labels the LCD functions as ALARM and CHIME on the home screen (which I like) - Alarms and chime are not as loud as its Casio competitors (but uses a slightly higher pitch) - Significantly heavier than a Casio A158WA and a little thicker - The buttons and pushers don't feel as easy to operate as a Casio and are a bit stiff. - The module and display are deeper into the case than a Casio, making it a little harder to read - There's a bit more ghosting on the display when viewing at an angle, and the viewing angles are just harder to read than the Casio modules. - The numbers on the digital module are smaller and narrower than a Casio A158WA. I prefer the Casio's readability a lot more. - The LED backlight is identical to the Casio's. Just a side LED on the left. But because the module's numbers are smaller and farther to the right, the light can't illuminate it that well, making it even harder to read. If the stainless steel case is important to you, this is the one to go for. It's a good watch and it's way cheaper than the steel Casio A1000. Everything else in this price bracket is almost always plastic or resin. I'm really glad to see Armitron making a great effort for their everyday digital watches - This is such a nice little watch. But I still prefer the Casio A158WA at the end of the day for its light weight, lower cost, proven durability, and easier to read module.

Not perfect, but pretty darned good.
Firstly, the item I received was obviously a return. The tag wasn't on the watch and was in the bowels of the tin. The packaging is just sad. The watch was floating around with no padding. And this was in a "soft" envelope, not a box. Not good Amazon! As for the watch itself, it looks good, is comfortable, classic without being too nerdy or gaudy. If I were Armitron, I would make the following improvements: change the anemic LED to an EL backlight (the manual says it is an EL for some reason, it is not), change the acrylic crystal to a hardened mineral (or even sapphire), and add a countdown timer (or replace the second time zone with a timer). Do these three things and they'd have a near perfect steel digital watch. People would gladly pay full MSRP for something like that. I know I would. The milanese bracelet is quite good on this watch, allowing near infinite adjust-ability.

Even more comfortable than the 40/8474
This 40/8485 is a slight variation on the 40/8474. The multi-link bracelet is swapped for a soft, mesh bracelet and the artwork on the face is a bit more laid-back (less sporty). All of the other specs are the same. Pictured: Arimtron 40/8487, 40/8485, 40/8474. Also Pictured: Casio A164, Arimtron 40/8485, Casio A159. The stainless steel head gives the watch noticeably more heft than the plastic Casios. The fully-brushed finishing on the head is basic, but nice (the 8487 has a bit more going on with some polished chamfers). Functionally, the Armitrons are similar to the Casios with some improvements. The Armitron module has a dual time function that the Casio 593 module (A158, etc) lacks. The Armitron cases offer 50m of water resistance to the basic splash resistance of the bottom-end Casios. One place where the Casio module excels is the off-axis readability (see forth pic). The Armitron LCD becomes unreadable past a certain angle. It's not a deal-breaker, but it is noticeable if you are used to the Casio. They both have a similar, terrible green LED backlight. The Armitron is currently priced such that it doesn't make much sense to get the Casio unless you are really pining for one. The Armitron is better in almost every measurable way and will likely last much longer thanks to the stainless steel case.

Amazing value but terrible for nighttime use
The stainless steel construction and band makes the watch a versatile fashion piece and it has tons of useful functions. Its weighty for its size and feels good on the wrist. The case is smaller than you'd think. For ref, it looks a tiny bit small on a 5.5" wrist. The only downside is the light does not illuminate the entire dial, but just the left side of the watch. So, it's basically useless in the dark. Overall, looks a lot more expensive than it actually is and it has tons of utility. Worth it unless you expect to use it in the woods at night

Great watch - bad packaging.
I love this watch. Amazing quality for the money, my only complaint, is that 1. The box was.... Half a metal box, and not the same box as the one in the photos and other reviews. And 2, nothing was securing the watch in the box. So the watch was loose in the packaging. I think mine might have been on display in a store, or possibly opened before.

Smaller than expected
Watch is smaller than expected, especially the LCD display. The backlight is useless. The mesh band is very comfortable, and can be easily washed out if sweat gets in the band. But overall, the watch is size makes it look like a women's watch.

Pros and cons of this product
This watch has rather good value for the money. Pros is metallic body but cons are rather pathetic alarm noise, it’s almost unheardible. Comparing with Casio watches are useless because Casio watches can be used as alarms but this can’t. When I received this package there was only half of this Armitron merallic box and the cardboard box looked like someone has sit on it. The watch was without scratch but the package was so poor that I think it was the last Armitron that I order. Not good advertise for Armitron and Amazon.
