Withholding judgment at this time
Mine just came today, shipping was on time and quick. My initial impressions of the pack itself are that it is certainly not up to par with the original issue. HOWEVER, if one is willing to put a bit of work into making improvements it may hold up just fine. As it comes though, the nylon is much thinner. The stitching seems adequate, but reinforcing corners and certain potential weak spots should be a priority. There are many YouTube videos discussing re-waterproofing, etc. of the originals. I plan to do some of them and see how it holds up. I only plan to use it to take my stuff to and from work and it will spend most of its time in the back of a work truck, so time will tell.

Hear you go!! GREAT medium NEW Alice pack!!
Nice NEW medium size Alice pack. After buying a used GI original Alice pack, I decided to go with these from Amazon. My wife & I are very pleased with these packs. I pack the camera gear & she packs the food. Nice combination huh? It's nice to have new and that new cloth smell instead of old Army smell! Yes, the attached straps & buckles are a little (10%) lighter weight than the original GI ruck packs. Oh well! We are not fighting a war and these will last for years to come. This pack bag has all the original Alice pack accessories. All the standard straps & buckles with the interior pocket inside the main duffel. The side of the pack that faces your back has a standard size pocket at the top that fits over any compatible Alice LC-1 frame. The pack comes with small nylon paracord lanyards for the buckles. I have upgraded mine using 550 paracord which you can buy in many colors on Amazon (color of your choice) not due to bad quality, I just wanted that custom look. To beef up the interior of my pack for hauling gear for two DSLR's, I picked up two large nylon foam filled inserts made for camera gear that fit perfectly and totally protects my camera's & lens's. This is the one you've been looking for
Picked this up to carry things in and out of the woods during hunting season. Decided on this item after weeks of comparing what was available both here and on the other major outdoor retailer's sites. Very satisfied with the purchase. Pros: -High quality materials and well constructed - No stray threads, strong seams - No initial chemical smell, as so many folks mentioned in their reviews of comparable products - Lots of space inside and out, with three large pockets - In addition to straps, outside pockets have quick-open, heavy-duty snap closures, which you cannot tell from the pictures here - Interior main pocket has drawstring closure to keep rain out - All pockets have grommeted drainage holes in the event of a spill inside - Straps are comfortable and do include quick release in the event that you need to get this pack off in a hurry--not shown in picture - Price is right! Con: - Straps come attached at the top of the bag only, and attaching them was not fully intuitive for me. A quick online search of "ALICE pack instructions" will turn up the original Army manual and show you how its done - Nothing! This thing rocks. I would buy this again--but I'm not sure that I will ever need to with the way this thing is built!

Grommets Need Some Reinforcing
Only one downside so far...one of the grommets on the top, inside flap, has already torn away from the fabric after cinching the pack, and lifting it when filled with 42 lbs. of gear. I suggest people reinforce the grommets to the fabric using strong thread before packing it. Other than that, it's a well thought-out design, makes the important items accessible via the outside pockets, and there are lots of webbing if you like to hang things on the outside. You can even slip things in between the outside pockets and pack. The long straps over the top allows over-stuffing of your pack if you feel the need. There are two snaps on each of the front pocket straps, which allows adjustment if you have something taller than the pocket itself. The material of the pack seems pretty strong, I believe it's the grommets that need more reinforcement. Aesthetically pleasing exterior. Nice and roomy, and perfect for me. Not too heavy with all my gear and a weight I can handle when packed and out hiking, so it works for women my size...I'm 5'5". Didn't realize how roomy the outside pockets were, very nice. This pack will fit the alice frame also.

Brings back memories
I've been in the Army for 28 years and counting. With all the new and fancy gear available nowadays I just wanted an old school pack for some old school ruck marching and not disappointed. I forgot how well made and durable these once standard issue Army packs were. The only downer is I forgot how they run in sizes and should have ordered a large instead of medium. But still, great durable well made back pack that will hold up for a long time. If you order one of these keep in mind you CAN make it work without the frame but you'll have to tie off the shoulder straps at the bottom where they would normally connect with the frame. Again,..I forgot this little fact and didn't get the frame.

This thing is baddasssss!
Only complaint is I wish it had the quick clips for the top 2 straps that close the bag. Other than that, this is one of the best utility bags you can get, and a great price.

Very pleased with this medium sized ALICE pack
Very pleased with this medium sized ALICE pack. I noticed that the product description did not mention a frame that came with it, and read some of the other reviewers that said theirs came with a frame. Mine did not, but I was not expecting it to...so no worries for me in that regard, just thought I would point that out to other potential buyers. A durable well made pack. Should hold up nicely for my weekend bushcraft excursions. For me I would consider it larger than a simple day pack, but smaller than a three day pack. I tend to travel light when I do my extreme hunting/camping, so this baby should do the trick nicely.
