Meets my modest needs
My home shop doesn't do the most demanding kinds of work, but there is variety. That means a range of different holes I need to drill from time to time. I work mostly in wood, no n-ferrous (soft) metal, and plastic, so I'm sure these willl keep me going for good long time to come. Even though I'm quite happy with these tools, I must point out a few oddities. First (and my fault), this goes to 3/8", not 1/2". I should have read more carefully. Second, and possibly not meaningful, mine came in a rectangular case, not one with the slanty top shown (and mine hinges at the bottom, not side). I'm almost embarrassed to mention that the plastic hook at the top of my case broke off before I could even open it - not that I would ever have used it. Third, and oddest, the set I received has a gold tone suggesting TiN surface - an upgrade from the HSS I thought I signed up for. But, I'll take it. The only down side, and one I might not experience in my lifetime, is the exotic shape of the cutting tip. I haven't tried it against all that many materials, but it seems to make sense - and to obviate the need for a pilot hole when using a bigger bit with less well-defined "point". That's nice, but sharpening this exotic shape, when the time comes, will require either intense labor or specialized tooling. But, if career-term maintenance of individual bits matters to you, I imagine you already have your own sources.and are prepared to deal with such oddities. For me, it's 5/5 - in part because, unlike egotistical consumer products, this doesn't feature a case as big as it's imagined importance or value. It's just enough in every direction (but not stingy), and works well with my constrained storage space. Over all, I'm happy. -- wiredweird

Great product!
Turbomax drills perform well in plywood, hardwoods, and especially metals, even stainless alloys like 303, 304 and even 316! They hold up well if used at reasonable speed and feed rates. The only downside to them is that they are difficult to impossible to sharpen because of their unusual tip geometry.

Easy to use and durable.
These bits hold up well and the design makes it easy to drill without a pilot hole. I've used Irwin tools for decades and the quality is good.

With a name like turbomax, it's gotta be good
Tool accessories are just as important to good quality results as good tools. The best drill will only make smoke with a cheap drill bit that dulls quickly. Many handypeople learn the hard way that you can buy many cheap tools, or one quality tool. Accessories are no different. Those 9.99 drill bit sets sold at the corner hardware store are cheaply made from low quality materials. They will inevitably fail when you need them most. You are generally safe buying name brand tools and accessories. Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee and Makita come to mind right away. Irwin is right up there with their line of pro grade accessories. They are a name you may recognize for the infamous speedbor paddle bits. These bits have a Standard 118 degree point for use in wood, metal, and plastic, and are constructed of M-2 high speed steel for the best combination of strength, heat resistance, and wear resistance. They all have Self-centering tips, and Three flatted shanks on bit sizes 3/16-inch and above. This prevents the bit from spinning in the chuck.This set includes 1 each: 1/16, 3/32, 7/8, 5/32, 3/16, 7/32, 1/4, 5/64, 7/64, 9/64, 11/64, 13/64, 15/64. There are larger sizes available both individually and in kits if you need to drill larger holes than these. The one thing I did not care for with these bits was the case. It was larger than it needed to be, and was too open for my taste. I swapped these bits into a better case I had from another brand of bits. Problem solved. You can find these bits on Amazon for under twenty dollars.

Awesome bits
These drill bits are awesome. The Turbomax tips really help keep the bit where it needs to be. Bits seem to stay sharp with repeated use. The set comes in a very nice and sturdy case. The rows are removable too. I'm hoping this set will last me a long time. No more buying cheap bits and have to keep buying new ones after short use. I drill a lot of mild steel and wood and these do the job in no time. Very satisfied with this set.

Handy useful set
I keep this in my cordless drill's case for small jobs and it's really handy for that. The drill bits have a special point that will be impossible to replicate if you resharpen them yourself by hand or use a DrillDoctor. I've used them only in wood, and they work really well. I realize that if I use them to drill steel they will dull soon after and I won't be able to sharpen the fancy point back to original specifications, so I use them for wood, plastic, and soft metals only. Made in Taiwan.

Some of the best drill bits for the money
Although Irwin is found in many big box stores the product is still a great product. The TurboxMax line is a great line that you most likely won't find at the big box. If you are looking for drill bits that cut well and don't cost too much money I would suggest these. The only drawback is the actual case it tends to bind up easy and I would suggest removing the inner case from the outer case and putting it in your tool box.
