No Wiring Diagram
I wanted some switches with 'pilot' lights to visually indicate when they are ON. They will be inside my new backyard workshop, but control the exterior lights. Functionally, these are essentially the opposite of lighted interior light switches that glow when the lights are OFF. The red glow is a good reminder that you, or another convenient perpetrator, left the outside lights on (AGAIN!). (A fingerprint kit may,or MAY NOT, be a good idea to indict the forgetful culprit). It would be nice if homes were routinely built with pilot light switches for all exterior lights. Porch lights, patio lights, Christmas lights, etc., I've (well, someone) sometimes left driveway and porch lights on for days at a time. These switches work fine, but there was no wiring diagram on, or in, the packages. [Knocked off one star in my rating]. Not being an electrician, I had to do some Internet searching to find out how to properly wire the the four different colored screws. Perhaps I can explain in words, what the wiring diagram I found showed. Brass Screw: That is for the Line IN (Hot Wire - usually black). Green Screw: The ground wire. So far this is exactly the same as most wall switches. Black Screw: This is the Hot (black) Wire Out to the light fixture. Silver Screw: Here, you need a wire "nut" for the Neutral (white) wiring. In the wire nut, connect the Neutral wire coming into the light switch box, the white wire going out to the light fixture, and a short (6") white 'jumper' wire to the silver screw on the switch. I know that's hard to follow. Hopefully, you can find the little wiring diagram, which I think I found on the Leviton site. It didn't show the screw colors on the diagram, but I figured that out. I then printed small copies of the diagram, wrote in the screw colors, and taped them to the boxes so that I'd remember when I installed them. The switches are wider than many others. The body is 1-5/16 inches wide, and the screws will make that about 1-1/2". Putting two of these into a double gang box is a bit tight. You have to be extra careful about not stripping too much insulation from your wires. The switches are relatively shallow, the body being only 15/16" deep. As with many light switches, there are no 'push-in' spring connections on the back. Note: These are wired quite differently than the glowing interior switches which are lighted when the room lights are OFF. Those usually only have have three screw connectors - Brass, Brass, and Green. Those generally don't have a connection for the Neutral (white) wire. They are wired exactly the same as normal light switches - Brass, Brass, and Green. Black (Hot) wire IN, Black (Hot) wire out, and Ground. Ground wires in all of these cases are also connected with a wire nut (usually green). The Ground wire nut connects the bare ground wire OUT to the light, the bare ground wire coming into the electrical "box", and a 6" bare jumper wire connected to the green screw on the switch. If you want to replace your unlighted porch light interior switch with one of these pilot lights, you'll need to check how the existing switch is wired. What did the original builder do with the white (Neutral) wire? This may be a bit beyond the "pay grade" of the average D-I-Y homeowner. Depending on how old your house is, there may not even be a white (Neutral) wire at the switch box. Older than that, and there may not even be a ground wire.

Works as described
Lack of an internal drawing of the switch. To describe the internal wiring, I will refer to the three colored screws. Black, Brass & silver. The pilot light is connected across the silver and brass screws. The internal switch contacts are connected across the brass and black screws. Black screw is connected the 120vac black wire (hot wire). The black load wire (which may be a light bulb, fan motor, etc) is connected to the brass screw on the same side of the switch. By installing a short length of white 14 ga wire from the exsiting neutral to the silver screw completes the install. In operation, with switch in the "off" position, voltage to the pilot lamp and the load is off. Turning the switch "on" connects 120 vac to the load and to the pilot lamp, be it a red lamp or a green lamp. Either can be ordered. If the two black wires are reversed, the hot wire is connected directly to the pilot lamp and it will burn continuously, both in the "on" and "off" positions. The load will be connected in the "off" instead of "on" position. Reversing the two black wires will fix this problem. Best to do this work with the 120 vac breaker off.

GREEN, not grey
It is illuminated green. It is a very nice color. Quality is good. Many Leviton items are made in USA which makes one feel good. Some are made in Mexico, but still seem to be of good standards (and this is much better than the alternative). If price were lower, it would be 5 stars. Still, I would buy again.

Works well.
Works great so we can tell when the attic light is on. No issues with installation. A couple of notes: 1. if you reverse the black wires (source and load, I think) the switch light will stay on regardless if the switch is on or off. I just switched the black wires and then the switch light worked properly. 2. This switch requires a neutral connection. In the back of the box all the neutral wires were connected with a wire nut. I just made a pigtail to connect to the neutral connection on the switch. I did need a bigger wire nut, though. 3. Same thing for the ground connection. The old switch didn't have a ground connection, but I added that for the new switch. It can't hurt, I guess. 4. The red lighted switch part is actually bigger than a non-lighted switch, so if you have more than one switch on the plate it will look a little different in size.

If the Pilot lite is on . Then there is power at your device!!
Easy to install . Although you will need a neutral for the pilot lite in the switch.

Install Issues
This switch comes without instructions and the Leviton web site provides no help in wiring it. So after much frustration and hopeless web searches, my wife stumbled upon an Amazon rating for a similar product that explained how to wire it. I followed those instructions and it works great now. Here they are (and of course I'm not an electrician): 1) Hot power (black wire) goes to the black screw on the lower right. 2) Out power (black wire) to the light goes on the brass screw on the upper right. 3) Both negative (white) wires go on the silver screw on the upper left. You may have trouble figuring out which black wire is the hot power wire. If you wire the switch and the switch stays lit even when off, you have the two black wires reversed. Fix that and you'll be good to go. Switch works great and deserves 5 stars but for the crappy instructions and web site.

Tricky bugger to install.
Took me an hour but I finally got it the indicator to turn on when the switch is in the on position. Be prepared to add an additional wire to the switch that may not be present on your current switch. You need a white wire and a wire nut. The switch requires a white wire in addition to both black wires. A total of a three wire connection is required. Plus the ground if you have it.

Works well once i knew how to wiring it.
The switch works well, although there is no wiring diagram, i had to email Leviton technical support for it, they where good to send it over. Also the description was ambiguous, it does have a green LED and its only on when the switch is (which is good). If you need it, here are the wiring diagram: The 1201-PLG is a pilot light switch, which is illuminated when the switch is on. The hot wire goes to the black screw terminal, the load wire goes to the brass screw terminal, the neutral wire goes to the silver screw terminal, and the ground wire goes to the green screw terminal.
