The jacket that has all the essentials without the bulk!
Hands down my favorite snowboarding jacket I own and I have a few, Saga, Burton, DC, Never Summer, are in the closet. I prefer a shell jacket without a hood because I run a little hot so pit zips are a must and a thin liner with a powder skirt. I’m not a small guy standing 6’4” around 270lbs with broad shoulders and the XXL fits absolutely perfect. I prefer a semi loose fit that has no restrictions in movement I don’t have to pull the bottom of my jacket to my waist just to bend over and strap in. I wear a base layer, flannel and this jacket down to about 0° here in Montana. I wear the Columbia Haskill omniheat bibs which take up some room under the jacket so I needed some breathing room so to speak. This combination of jacket and bibs allows for air movement keeping me warm but not hot. The tech in the jacket performs as advertised and I can cool down quickly on the lift back up the mountain. Has enough zippered pockets for everything I carry without literally having pockets all over the place with nothing in them. My only wish and it’s minor is I wish it had a main two way zipper closure. Do I can unzip the bottom 12” of the jacket to access my bibs zipper to use the bathroom or cool off even faster.

Great value for $100 - 4.5 stars
My initial impression is very good - pretty much what I expected. Most reviews of this jacket cite the price/performance as the main positive and I would agree. I got it for $100 and it seems like it's a much more expensive jacket. I got red so I can be more visible while skiing for my wife and kids, who sometimes have a hard time picking me out of a crowd on the slopes in other jackets I have which are black and/or grey. This jacket certainly could have a few more features but for $100 it's a really good value. I'm a slim 6'2" 185 lbs and large is a good fit for me. (Note that the fit is a little bulky in the torso - it's not a tapered or athletic fit.) I figured out a hack to roll up and stow the hood without removing it, using a strip of after-market Velcro looped around one of the loops inside the jacket at the base of the collar. The Velcro needs to have both hooks and loops on it. You insert it through the aforementioned loop in the jacket and stick it to itself to secure it so a couple inches of hooked surface extend out and you affix that hooked surface to the existing Velcro loop strip atop of the rolled up hood. You don't have to sew, cut or alter the jacket in any way - just roll up the hood and stow it and you can remove the Velcro strip as you desire. I've attached a picture; the black strip is the Velcro I added. Edit: I Was able to wear this jacket while skiing this past weekend and it shed wet heavy snowfall easily. I'm extremely happy with this and would buy it again in a heartbeat at this price. 4.5 stars

Perfect for the wind and cold of Iceland
Worked great in Iceland. It was around 30 degrees every day. One day we saw winds of over 45 mph. The jacket kept me warm and dry. The removable inner layer works well as a jacket on its own if needed. The outer shell also works well on its own.

Nice coat, warm, and waterproof against all but deluges
This is a well made coat that is warm down to around freezing or slightly below, does a good job of blocking wind, and is waterproof under all conditions except for deluges. This is the second Whirlibird coat that I have purchased and the first one was used for 3 winters, 4 or 5 days a week, outside for about 8 hours at a time in all conditions. The only time I wouldn't wear this coat is when it got super cold or it was a downpour. I had other coats for those situations. The first coat I bought hasn't begun to show much wear at all but I wanted a different color. These coats do feel like they have a somewhat slimmer cut (I'm 5-10, 165 pounds and wear a Large in most coats) but it allowed me to wear my usual thermal sweatshirt and 1 or 2 other thin layers without any range of motion issues. The coat isnt super thick but the inside reflective stuff ("Omni-heat") seems to do the job and feels like it is really more than just a gimmick. My only complaint is that this particular version of the coat could use another chest pocket. My other Whirlibird coat had 2 pockets in the chest area. Overall though, I highly recommend the Whirlibird coat. I even had somebody offer to purchase my old one because they liked it so much, but I hung on to it, because I did too.

A great jacket!
I haven't had a Columbia 3 in 1 jacket for some time but this jacket turned out to be great. First, the liner is actually thick enough to be warm in the Seattle cold. The hood is also removable which is an added benefit for those of us who don't like hoods. And, the shell is extremely pliable and very comfortable. My only criticism is that the shell inside mesh pocket doesn't zip or close securely which makes me nervous about putting valuables in it. However, that defect is partially compensated for by the liners' inside pocket. Overall it is a very nice jacket.

Great value!
I am 6'2 185lbs. I ordered the large, and it fits perfect. I have only had coat for a cpl weeks, so I cant speak for durability, but the quality seems excellent. It was 8 degrees the other day here in Mi, and this coat did its job. Not the warmest I ever had, (down filled still warmer imo), but It is a great wind breaker. I could not feel any wind. Overall Im very happy with my purchase. :) UPDATE: I've had coat for 3 yrs now. Only issue I had with coat in that time, was with the zipper sometimes sticking/hard to zip. I went to wash coat today, It started to rip in back, by the shoulder. 3 yrs..I guess I cant rly complain though..
