Simply impressed!
Seagull movement, with a classy look. I love this eye catching automatic watch, you get way more than what you pay for in my humble opinion. Comfortable to wear, easy to read, great water resistance. I recommend this watch for all beginners or low budge watch aficionados. Accurate, stylish and beautiful to the eye, You won’t regret this buy.

Don't let the name fool you!
Don't let the name fool you. This is a great and reliable automatic watch. Super accurate and water resistant. Love the skeleton look from front to back. I have watches that cost a ton more although this is just as reliable. Btw...solid link band. Not hollow! You won't regret it!

Inaccurate time
Bought it three months ago. The watch is nice, but unable to stay "on time". It gets ahead a few minutes every 24 hours cycle. So, I always have to adjust the time every day. It has become a "bracelet" now. I use my cell phone to get an accurate time read.

Got this watch for my grandpa a few years ago
My grandma got this watch before she passed in 2013 for my grandpa and it is still going strong today In 2023 sadly I just inherited it.

It is what it is.
Of course, I'd be lying if I didn't admit I was hoping for more. I got this watch as an opportunity pick up and while at the current retail price point it doesn't seem completely out of line with some lower tiered skeleton face automatics, there's a great chance this model is still overpriced. Armitron is a reasonably reliable, affordable U.S brand, one I still tend to associate with LED/LCD digital watches however they do have a selection of decent analogs including a serviceable three sub-dial quartz I own and still pull out occasionally. I was not acquainted with mechanicals or automatics from their product line and practically speaking, this model is essentially a Chinese movement watch offering with Armitron branding. At this price point you can be pretty sure the watch is going to employ a lower end Japanese or Chinese movement and while the company doesn't make it easy to determine which movement is used, this one appears to be an inexpensive Tianjin Sea-Gull ebauche for sales to other watchmakers and left unlabeled for customization by the purchasing brand. So, Armitron took the opportunity to stamp "Armitron" on the movement rotor even though it is openly published the watch was assembled in China. My personal opinion is there are some fantastic affordable pieces produced by Chinese based watchmakers, this simply is not one of them. It is delivered in not unexpectedly sparse packaging with no documentation other than a miniscule card suggesting warranty information and operational instructions can be found the Armitron or E. Gluck websites. Don't bother. The instructions are pretty irrelevant and there's still no warranty information available. So, you end up wondering what would really have been risked by opting for one of the cheaper but comparable models from any of the "Who the Hell are You?" brands...or Invicta... This three hand no complications skeletonized face is protected by a flat mineral crystal. The major appeal of this model is steampunk blue bridge treatment with black matte open dial with the Armitron name at just under the "12" position. The dial also has circular lumed glued markers bordered by an internal printed white minute marker circumference ring. The skeletonized dauphine style watch hands are also lumed although overall quality of lume is underwhelming. The stainless steel case has a diameter of 44mm and 12mm in thickness. The case measures 53mm lug to lug. The bezel is brushed stainless steel while the case sides are polished. That treatment is continued on the oyster style hollow link bracelet. I found the folding clasp deployment bracelet to be somewhat undersized as I have smaller wrists and only needed to remove two links. I think a larger wristed person would have issues with this model. While the bracelet is a relatively common style found with a host of lower cost watches, it may in fact be one of the weakest features of this watch. The exhibition mineral glass rear case cover facilitates viewing of the ornately engraved movement with an open cavity rotor that does allow more of the movement to be observed. This is a hacking movement but when hand wound it is so loud with ratcheting I have to wonder if any lubrication was used. I cannot speak to the long term durability of this specific watch however I was slightly uncomfortable in discovering this TY2807 caliber appears to be the same type I had in another opportunity acquisition (a slightly higher price point Lucien Piccard) that went paperweight in less than three months. My rationalization in this instance is, just what were you expecting with a fifty dollar watch with a brand identity surcharge of fifty dollars included? Is the surcharge worth it to avoid taking a chance on an undeniable mushroom brand watch with essentially the same components? If this is in fact a version of the Seagull movement, the jewel-free movement operates at 21,600 bph with a power reserve of 36 hours and an accuracy rate of about +/- 10 to 35 seconds per day unadjusted. As previously noted, I couldn't confirm any of those specifications via Armitron, or do I think any of it really matters all that much at this price point. However, if it is still in the Amazon catalog six months to a year from now, I'll update this review because epic failures of items just pisses me off and if my intuition was off the mark, I need to own that as well.

Inexpensive skeleton automatic? Hey, why not?
Armitron is certainly a brand name that has been around for a long time, but it's always been associated with very inexpensive watches. There's nothing wrong with an inexpensive watch, despite what many in the watch collecting hobby say. When my son expressed an interest in engineering and technology, I showed him the movement of an automatic watch- for which he showed great interest. Enter, the Armitron Skeleton Automatic. This watch is about the visuals, the colors on the mechanism and the clear back- it's so you can SEE it working. There's no soulless battery quartz mechanism in there- automatic watches are about the sheer cleverness and precision of the mechanism. I mostly wear automatics in a world where most people use a cell phone for a clock- because it's not about telling time, it's an homage to the cleverness of human engineering. The aesthetics of this watch are interesting, as the use of color on the "guts" makes it fun to watch... and I just realized the bad pun, but I'm leaving it in there. The band is the mediocre part, but there are thousands of bands from which one may find something that suits their fancy. The new styles of quick-release aftermarket bands mean that you can change the look in seconds. The original band and clasp are robust enough for normal wear, if you prefer it. I do wish Armitron would make a logo instead of stamping the whole world ARMITRON across the face. Brand awareness is a thing, but Armitron can't make much of a play for the slightly higher cost market because of the brand stigma after being a leader in super-inexpensive (but decent) watches... but on the other side of the coin, there are people who would rather have the perceived benefit of buying a watch with a familiar company backing it up. To summarize it- it's a good looking watch, which of course will have some tradeoffs to meet the sub-$100 price level. It looks good, specially with the color treatment of the movement inside. Why wear a battery powered. soulless watch when you can have a mechanical feat of engineering instead?
