Great boot, well made - but you need different insoles and the right socks
I sent the first pair back - the rubber was delaminating from the leather out of the box. The 2nd pair? I've put them through a lot of abuse and love them. I do a lot of urban exploration, exploring and photographing abandoned buildings, and the like. Climbing all day over debris and rocks. Miles of stairs. Rubble and timbers, bricks and tiles. Rarely a level surface. If I wear them for a couple of hours, they were great. But for several hours, they started to get uncomfortable. The steel toe rear edge started digging into my foot. I was ready to blame the boot. Then I did some research and applied a little common sense. A boot is a shell - like a ski boot. The lining, in this case the sock, makes a world of difference. First, I paid $45 for some custom fit insoles (I'll guess that $15 ones would have worked) - wow - that made a HUGE difference. Then I purchased socks made for steel toe boots (Thorlo Unisex Moderate Cushion Safety Steel Toe Socks with THOR?LON® ) - no more steel toe pain. I can wear these for 16 hours straight and don't have a single complaint. The SOCKS were the biggest help. The insoles were probably going a little overboard, but since I was almost never on level ground, my feet were shifting inside the boots. Try walking on 2" gravel strewn about a concrete floor for 30 minutes and see how your feet feel. Add insoles and try it again. The 8" height also adds some ankle support, and that helps as well. I've worn these for about 250 hours and can't imagine exploring without them.

perfect safety antifatigue work boot
These boots are truly as good as they sound. They have anti-fatigue technology for those who are on there feet all day which helps with knee and back issues, they have non-slip soles, they are steel toe, they have thinsulate lining which doesn't overheat, they are water resistant, and they look good too! The only thing that I would like to mention is that my husband found that these were a little snug, particularly in the steel toe area. If the person wearing these regularly wears thick socks you might want to consider going up a half size or one category wider--otherwise, the fit will be snug but true at your regular size. However, if you wear a Wide do not try to get by with a non-wide shoe in this boot, you really need to stay true to your size in this wonderful shoe. I searched through hundreds of boots before finding this one and was shocked to find that Amazon had it for almost fifty dollars cheaper than what the average price was that I had found. This is an excellent shoe and really worth the investment. I have seen a few people here and there who have complained and given bad reviews for this particular shoe but I honestly do not know what they are talking about. This boot is perfect for those who work in an environment which needs safety and slip resistance and the extra umph of antifatigue technology to help those who are on there feet all day to prevent knee and back pain. In summary, overall a magnificent product. My only caution would be to let folks know that this is a pretty heavy boot. This is a substantial manly boot, if that isnt what you want then perhaps this product is not for you.

Best work boots ever.
Ok I'll admit I'm a bit early on writing this review as I've owned them just over 2 weeks. But, these are by far the best work boots I have ever owned. I'm a Union Stagehand. Which means we log a lot of hours on our feet. On my 6th day wearing these I put in 21 1/2 hours on my feet in these. Could not be happier. I listened to reviews about ordering a half size bigger and am very happy I did. I have herniated discs in my lower back and in my neck. I have a replaced ACL in my knee. And these boots have been absolutely amazing. My back feels better, my hip feels better and my neck too. Thank you Timberland for giving the working man a fighting chance again with these boots. I have only one complaint as the first pair came with what seemed to be a bubble inside the left boot. Amazon sent out a new pair and my feet, back, hip and neck have never been happier at work. These are a well thought out and rugged boot. With absolutely no break-in period needed. At the moment I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. Money very well spent. I will update a year from now and let you know how they last.

First impressions
Update: Soles are slick on smooth wet surfaces. Comfortable to wear 10+ hours. Original review: First impressions are mixed on this boot. Tread depth is not very deep and I wonder how long it will last. Heal and toe rubber like coating looks like it will be beneficial in saving some wear and tear. Top three pairs of eyelets have the option of a standard pass through or speedlace type hook. I will probably replace the laces with 550 cord but, that’s just my preference. Seem to provide good ankle support and don’t feel heavy like some other steel toe/puncture resistant boots. Do appear to require break-in period (been wearing approx 1 week off and on, laced an unlaced). I should be putting these through some real world situations within the next week and will update.

Great boots!!
Got these about a month ago first day I got them they felt great! No adjustment period (they felt good day 1) Most boots i have owned took some time to loosen up. I have owned probably 15 pairs of work boots and beat up boots!!! Hope these last will update. I will order these again when needed, think I found my new boots! UPDATE 1-3-13 So the boots themselves held up quite well the soles however did not! I really did put them through a lot of abuse. Not sure if I would buy them again, but most boots I have owned lasted about the same time. May just get them resoled? Been on third pair since theses I think they are a bit on the heavy side compared to latest pairs I have. Still a good boot and comfortable. Still water proof somehow but they where slippery on wet surfaces would have liked a little better traction.

fast exchange time
thought i would try a different style, these boots are not as comfortable as the last pair, had to send the first pair back had a defect that caused a bad blister on my heal after . the next pair was better but still have chafing on my ankles. the pair before didnt do that, guess i will go back to the other style next year. its been over 2 weeks now, hopefully they will work in soon. still going to buy Timberlands. love the boots this is my 6th pair now in 6 years and this is the first time they bothered my feet.

Good boots for what you pay
I wish I bought sooner, price went up the week I bought, don't know why. These boots are good for working on the concrete floor, some of the only ones I've found that don't cause back or hip pain from being on the shop floor all day. The soles will detach in time, since they're bonded on, not stitched like the newer version. I usually clean up really well and glue back on and get several more months out of a pair. I can get 2 years, but by then, they're trashed. I think that's OK for the price. CSA certified as well, that's nice as a requirement for where I work

Improves quality of life after a hard day at work
This is the best boot ever made. These things are like walking on a cloud. Lots of people complain about the durability but Ive never had issues as long as they are fully dried out before using. These aren’t gum boots, they’re not made to stand in mud or water for extended periods of time without being dried out. Sometimes, I have to work 16 hour days as a heavy duty tech and until I found these boots, it felt like I had ran a marathon with a 40 pound weight vest on. If you want to save your feet and your back, these boots are #1 on the market. You aren’t buying these to last 3 years. You’re buying them to improve your quality of life after you get the job done.
