No angel!
We were very excited to make a cookie crèche - only to realize after the fact that there was no angel cutter included! :( Should've looked closer before purchasing, but honestly, what creche is compete without the Angel? It would've been better to leave out the included frosting set and add the Angel instead. So we rolled out some dough and used a butter knife to cut out an angel shape freehand - good enough for us! The figure cutters are good enough - you have to make multiple copies of the kings and animals. Flipping some figures after cutting and before baking ensured that not all are facing the same direction.... We also made copies of Joseph to double as kneeling shepherds. The manger didn't really look like a manger unless decorated with frosting - maybe they could've made a separate Baby Jesus in addition to the manger, but decorating it with frosting to create a white blanket and peach-colored face worked! The cutter for the stable "wall" is quite flexible so the resulting shapes don't exactly have straight sides - I had to use the butter knife to file the stable pieces' edges straight so they would come together for a perfect seam. Cleaning was a pain as expected, because of all the nooks and crannies, but soaking right away helped some. But I'm wary of rust (none so far) so I don't soak too long. Kids found the recipe for the stable a bit too spicy but adults liked it! Melted chocolate melts (instead of the included stable icing) worked great for sticking broken pieces together and "gluing" the figures together or upright on a base (we used a large ceramic flat platter). All in all, a good enough set except for the Angel and not-perfectly-straight stable wall cutter. Everyone had a blast making an edible crèche and mixing colors into the frosting. We also read "The Legend of the Christmas Cookie" while waiting for cookies to bake - great way to learn about the story behind the tradition of baking cookies at Christmas time. Merry Christmas!

Makes a great little gingerbread house
These cut outs make a great gingerbread house and save time cutting from a pattern. I rolled the dough right on my cookie sheets and cut them there. They are easy to move after they are baked with a metal spatula. Refrigerated dough will hold its size better when baking. I have used the little tree and gingerbread man cookie cutter various other times for other projects, also.

Es una casita que queda hermosa.
Juntamente con un arbolito navideño, compré el molde para hacer una casita de jengibre y armarlo todo en familia. Luego decidimos que cada quien armara su árbol y su casita, pero siempre en familia. Las casitas vienen con un instructivo muy preciso, lo que hace fácil su armado. Fué una linda experiencia y las casitas aunque las hicimos juntos a cada quién le quedó diferente. Fué tan buena la experiencia que la repetimos año con año y los moldes siguen como nuevos. Por que no compras una?

If you plan to only make 1 house this would be good
If I were only making one..... I planned a gingerbread decorating extravaganza for 2 families but could not make 2 houses from this recipe (...and cookie cutter set). Its a good sized house! This is no fault to the cookie cutter set itself but my realization that making more dough to construct 2 houses was not going to happen this year. The dough for just 1 filled my kitchen aid mixer to the top! Next year with more planning and gumption it will happen.... The take away is: If you're planning to make just ONE large-ish house, this a great cookie cutter set.

Good enough for my needs....but not sturdy
While it was perfect for the few times I used it, I think it’s pretty flimsy and the shapes get bent super easily. Even washing them bends them. For this reason I think these sets can be sold for much cheaper than they are. Would be great value if metal didn’t bend.

Great set, if you know how to make gingerbread houses, or are willing to learn
I have used this cookie cutter set several times over the years and made beautiful gingerbread houses. One year I cut out several houses and had a gingerbread house decorating party for adult friends. The cutters are not amazing quality, but mine haven't fallen apart. If they did, I'd buy another. This said, I've got decent experience making gingerbread houses. Before using the set, I read several books on baking gingerbread houses, and over the years, collected good recipes for gingerbread and royal icing. So, for my purposes, having a cookie cutter set, instead of having to cut out my own shapes, the set works fine, and is a great time saver. The set is not designed to teach you how to make a gingerbread house; and I do not believe the box advertises that it does that.

We made the recipe included with the cutters, but it was so stiff after about 4 1/2 cups of flour that we couldn't add any more. The cookie cutters are the right size, but very flimsy to get through the stiff dough. We had to use a knife. The directions are accurate and our house looks very nice. It was our first attempt to make a gingerbread house.

good investment if you have kids and plan to do ginger bread house often.
Your typical tin cookie cutters, will last for years when used with care. The wall and roof pieces are on the large side and can bend if you dont store them properly. Why buy the ready bake cookies every year (and everytime a wall breaks) when you can buy this and be set for every year? as many houses as you want or need for about the same price of one set of ready bakes. Not to mention you can make (god forbid) chocolate biscuit houses - try finding that in the stores. Cant complain.

Worth it!
Love love! Made this vegan and coloured the icing with fruit. The gingerbread recipe it comes with definitely does not work as is. I added more spices, including all spice and cinnamon, and added almond milk. Without the almond milk it was impossible to stay together. It was like sand. I didn't use the sugar cookie recipe since it is not vegan. The forms are thin but durable. I had no issues getting the shapes. It stood up very easily.

Great little cutter. Saves time and effort when making your house!
This is a great little kit for making a gingerbread house without having to use paper templates. I also use these if I need larger geometric shapes for fondant (ex. need a really large square/rectangle) and it works great for this application as well. I like that this has the built in windows/doors so no need to cut anything out in addition. Check out a recipe online for 'edible stained glass windows' - some are made from scratch but some you can use lollipops or melted lifesavers to get the stained glass effect, then just insert them into the window/door panes. You can even add a little battery or remote operated LED tea light inside for a glowing room effect! Fox Run cutters are generally pretty high quality cutters, and this is no exception to that rule. Just a quick rinse off keeps them looking good.
