So...bottom line is I did not like this product. I've heard so much about Oribe, about how luxurious and unique and "special" the products and the smells are. I was also looking for a more elegant, less "in your face" replacement for the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, which is a fun spring and (definitely) summer scented, super moisturizing cream, but can be a bit much sometimes, especially if you want to layer other fragrances/signature scents as well. So I researched and researched and looked at top ten lists across various fashion and beauty blogs, magazines, etc., and decided to give this product a go after hearing and reading so much about it. It's a no for me for multiple reasons. (1) Not elegant. Now, let me unpack that. For the price, and for how much Oribe's products' reputation precedes it, I was underwhelmed. This is a plastic container, and not a cute one at that. It just does not "look" or say luxury. (And Oribe is supposed to be a luxury product, right?) So without even opening it up and trying it, that's a negative in my book. (First impressions and all.) Not sure what the reviewer who talked about how elegant the packaging was actually received in hand. (2) Does not moisturize any more so than a (WAY) cheaper Palmer's lotion, Shea Moisture lotion, Jergen's, Cetaphil, Vanicream, or (shock, gasp) my beloved bum bum cream. So, $65 for a moisturizer lotion that doesn't really....moisturize? Another negative. (3) The smell. Oh, where to begin here? There is nothing special about this scent. Let me repeat: NOTHING SPECIAL. It definitely doesn't catch my attention or hold it like my other (beloved) cream, and worse, smells like about a dozen other way less expensive drugstore brand options. As a matter of fact, not only does it not smell special, it doesn't smell more expensive than other brands. So that's three strikes for me. If I'm paying that for basically a lotion, it better sing to me. As a matter of fact, it should serenade me morning and night. And after searching and returning (thanks, Amazon prime!) several lotions, guess where I landed? Back to my favorite moisturizing cream in all the land. I now have a new found respect for it. Sorry, Oribe. I was rather hoping you would be The One.
