Wears out fast

I have had to replace this part several times on my lawn tractor. It just does not last and appears to be some kind of design flaw. It either needs to be made out of much more durable material or something else in the steering mechanism needs to be redesigned. It slowly wears the opening into an oval and then it can no longer hold the gears together and the steering wheel no longer works.
