Not flat enough for sharpening and started to rust immediately

Upon first use, this quickly developed a noticeable area that was collecting more debris than the rest of the stone. After looking at it more closely, it turned out to have a depression area two inches wide and completely across the stone. This was also causing causing sharpening problems. The back side of this stone also starting rusting before the first use was complete, about 30 minutes of use. I'm looking for another brand, for this and other issues I've had with DMT products.

Versatile, Convenient, Easy to Maintain, and Creates a Great Edge Quickly!

I've been sharpening my pocket, hunting, and kitchen knives for the last four decades. I used Natural Arkansas oil stones until about 12 years ago when I started using diamond stones for the coarse and fine sharpening stages but still finished with hard and black hard arkansas stones if I wanted a truly sharp edge. The Extra Fine side of this dia-Sharp bench stone doesn't give the edge the same polish as a black hard arkansas but it is still surprisingly sharp and smooth. This diamond stone will not replace a coarse stone for working on a neglected edge, but the Fine side cuts much faster than an Arkansas stone and is great for touching up a maintained edge. The Extra Fine side puts a very sharp and smooth edge that I suspect will be satisfactory for all but the most demanding needs. The diamond surface is on a heavy steel plate that is held securely on its stand with a full length magnet. You don't have to hold this bench stone to keep it steady and the stone is positioned high enough that there is plenty of knuckle room.

One side flat and square, one side not $$$???

I like the design and the magnetic base thus far. The fine side is flat and square. The extra fine side however is not flat and square. I am trying not to use my high dollar knives on it( the reason I ordered it in the first place) and give it some light use to see if it trues. I will be returning it if not, which will have been a waste of my time. I expected to buy my last sharpening tool when I spent that much money. Quality Control and Quality Assurance need to step up

Its a must have!

So far I have the fine side broken in, but the extra fine side is still kinda rough like a course (almost) but it (the xtra fine sd) dosnt cut like a course so it still isnt broken in yet. So far I like my 2 sided Diamond sharpening plate, I waited years to be able to get 1 of these, so im hoping for the best!

Wonderful plate and base for lapping waterstones

Using this mostly as a lapping plate for waterstones. The good thing is that it has two sides, I use the one that corresponds to the grit of the stone I am grooming. The base has a handle that makes lapping really easy, this is the important point. If it's a bare plate, it's almost impossible to maintain control over the scrubbing action. Also the plate is magnetically attached to the base, so if you have other plates (and I do) you can swap them out. I use DMT's coase lapping plate as well, this will make this chore so much easier.

Expensive and totally worth it.

Bought this will an over-sink holder. Best combo ever. Together they are super efficient to put a new edge on my knives before a long cooking session without causing a mess.

Is DMT quality control slipping?

The stone I received looks like it was tossed around in a bin. Large dings on the side, also weird marks on the edges that look like missing coating or uneven coating. I also found lots of milling marks and scratches. For a $$DMT stone I expected more. Does make one suspicious.

Superior counter-top knife sharpener; robust!

Fabulous counter-top knife sharpener. Use very light strokes with ALL DIAMOND GRIT sharpeners!! This unit is"manly"(aka large and heavy). Much better than anything we used on the beef packing plant processing floor :)

Die ersten Anwendungen waren sehr gut hinsichtlich des Schärfergebnis, wenngleich die Seite Extra Fein sehr kratzig und grob anfühlte. Nach der 6-7 Klinge die ich von ok scharf auf sehr scharf gebracht hatte merkte ich da sich der Diamantbelag stark abgenommen hat. Dabei habe ich deutlich weniger aufgedrückt als ich es bei meinen Wassersteinen tuen muss. Evtl. habe ich immer noch zu viel Druck ausgeübt, aber dann ist es halt sehr sehr fragil. Zudem ist die billig anmutende Basis nicht mit Gummifüßen ausgestattet und zutscht munter über den Tisch bis man sie auf eine Anti-Rutschmatte stellt. Eine Tormek oder gute jap. Wassersteine und ein Abziehleder, gerne mit Diamantpaste bestrichen halte ich für zielführender. Das ist sicherlich teurer aber dann auch nicht nach 2 Stunden Benutzung für die Tonne.

DMT Very disappointing

Hi DMT, After meany years of wanting one of your stones i finely ordered the DMT D12EF-WB from Amazon it came after 42 Days, I also got the trend lapping fluid . i noticed the stone has machining marks in the face of it and has high spots with no diamonds on it & when i tried to flat on the back of my plane blade its putting deep grooves in it as the edge of the stone has lumps on the edge. it came it a DMT box and looks real but im thinking its a counterfeit Please Help Thanks Alan
