Note that this is a SINGLE brake handle extension. NOT a pair!
Handle works well and is super simple to install. It's just ONE handle extension, though. Yes, I know that technically it does say "handle" in the description, but I thought "Who would want just one handle? That sounds pretty stupid. Surely they mean one PAIR." Reader, I was wrong. Second handle is inbound (on a separate order).

Increase Safety & Ease
Simple physics (overly simplified for this) the longer the lever (brake handle in this case) the less force is needed to move or balance an object (engage/disengage the brake in this case). As this extension more than doubles the length of the original brake lever, in theory it should require less than half the force to engage/disengage the brake. I do not have anything to accurately measure this so I can only speak of how it feels. I purchased & installed 2x Drive Medical Wheelchair Transport Chair Brake Handle Extension, 8-inch. The installation was simple & required no tools. The hardest part of the installation was removing the original rubber grips from the brake levers. Once those were off, it was just a matter of sliding the handle extensions onto the brake levers. No tools were needed, although if your original rubber brake grips are especially tight, you may need a pair of pliers to grip & assist removal. After installation, the brake lever is approximately 8.75 inches (22cm) long from the bend in the brake lever, a total of 10.75 inches (27.5cm) from tip of handle to pivot point of brake lever. When both brake levers are disengaged, the width from lever tip to lever tip is 28.25 inches (71.5cm). This may vary depending on the angle set in your original brake lever. This may hinder going through some doorways. The handles can be removed by simply pulling them off before going through the doorway. I guess if you are handy w/tools, a hammer & wrench, you could remove the brake lever, decrease the angle & reinstall, so the overall distance between the tips of the extensions was less (if you do this, you do so AYOR). If you want the handles to be semi permanent & are worried about the handles coming off, you could drill a whole through the extensions & levers & install a small nut & bolt in each. This would keep them on until you decided to remove them. The brake extension makes applying & releasing the brakes considerably easier. My 88 year old mother-in-law, who has suffered multiple small strokes, had difficulties applying the brakes, even when loosened up (too much imho). Now she is able to engage & release the brakes w/little issue while the brakes are tight enough to ensure the wheelchair’s wheels will not rotate. For under $20 ($9.60 each), I think this is a great investment (& no brainer) to make the MIL’s life easier & safer.

Game changer on wheelchair brake.
Handle length makes locking the wheelchair brake so much easier. Just remember it's shipped as a single. You may need two.

More reachable brake levers
Suprised to find them sold singly, wee ordered twice to buy two of these levers for my husband's wheelchair. They make it much easier for him to reach the brake levers. They did not fit the old wheelchair we had been using, but when the new chair came, they fit perfectly. They do stick out a bit, making it harder to get through a narrow door.

You must remove rubber handle cover to install.
Which I did not realize when I purchased. Then I discovered (like so many others) that this item isn't returnable. The fact that it is one didn't bother me, I only wanted one for my mother's compact Drive wheelchair. Oncei figured out how to remove the cover it fit fine. Only negative is the angle the brake handle is mounted on makes the extension stick out so far it won't fit through most of the doors in our condo. Good thing it slips on and off so easily.

This device levered the brake actuator out so she can use her wheelchair brake easily. However I had to locktite it in place ...
Mom is 97 y/o so she has weakened hand strength and could not safely lock the brakes. This device levered the brake actuator out so she can use her wheelchair brake easily. However I had to locktite it in place to keep from being easily pulled off. My homemade device, used while this device was being delivered, I had put a set screw in the side to keep from pulling out. If the locktite does not work I will modify this new device in similar manner.

Fabulous addition
Had to wrap some Teflon tape around posts to hold these on when putting in the car but so much easier for dad to reach when sitting in it and easier for me from behind.

it works great, I like that it is longer as I have short arms ,so the 6 inch brake handle is too short for me. It fit on the brake assembly nice and snug so I am not afraid of loosing it ,which is what happened to the previous handle

the wheel chair model
The extension did not fit properly although the wheel chair model we have was on the list of types that could work. I managed to use some tools to widen the opening and make it fit but it still does not slide on far enough and frequently falls off.

Effortless reachable extenders , except it’s a bit loose and need to shim with tape before fitting ,to prevent coming off!
