Release button is not the most handy for me

I’ve used it several times this year and for the most part it seems to work fine. My only problem/ and it’s probably mine is having to use both hands for the release button to be pushed without letting the spool spin. Like I say it’s my problem!!

Ambassedeur S6500 Defective?

I purchased this Abu-Garcia Ambassedeur S6500 reel on Feb 10, 2023, and used it just a few days before it stopped working properly. The reel will not retrieve the line after I've cast the weight/hook/bait. I have to jiggle the handle arm in order to make the spool to engage and retrieve the fishing line. I have purchased and used Abu-Garcia Ambassedeur reels for more than 30 years. This is the first time I've experienced this problem with an Ambassedeur reel. The deadline for returning this product expired on March 13, 2023 (yesterday). The Abu-Garcia website is currently not functioning in terms of warranty information. I would appreciate any advice about how to resolve this issue. Thanks.

Got it in left hand version, very happy with it

I really like this reel. The first time I used it the spool release button stuck a few times but after the 1st fishing trip it didn't stick on any other fishing adventures. I Don't cast much with it as I got it to use on my bait/sabiki rod, my last 15+ year old reel finally stopped working. The clicker/line out alarm is nice to have just in case. Smooth drag and overall build looks & feels grate so far. If it lasts as long as my last reel it replaced I'll be thrilled. Hard to find a better reel for the low price I got it for, I'm happy with it.

The reel functions really well, I am currently using it on a 7 foot medium heavy veritas Abu garcia rod and love the long casting and sensitive feel to this combination. The internals are indeed plastic (as compared to the Swedish made Abu Reels, this one being made in china) there are still some very significant benefits to this reel. I spent a week fishing in Northern Ontario with this reel exposed to the elements in a boat and it performed well. At the end of the week, there was some sand that had found its way into the internal workings of the reel, but a quick 10 minute clean and re-lubrication (very easy to disassemble and reassemble) and everything was functioning better than normal. I consider myself a money vs benefits conscious shopper and this reel has met and exceeded my expectations. Pro's; Light. Easy to maintain. Incredibly easy to cast and incredibly smooth and quiet retrieve. Con's; Plastic internal drive gears, cheap and minimally lubricated gears upon delivery. I hope this review helps someone on the fence. Would recommend for the price point. Don't regret the purchase at all.
