10 years I've had this and still use it constantly and like it.

Update Jan 3, 2017 PLEASE NOTICE: COLON DOTS NO LONGER BLINK ! Gave my newest clock to a friend in need and bought another of the same (that's my 3rd). First of all it was nice when the friend called me thanking me and so impressed that it was immediately the correct time when she plugged it in. Secondly, it was kind of weird plugging in my new one just now, ten years after buying my first, and it was exactly the same EXCEPT THE DOTS NO LONGER FLASH. That has never bothered me, but I know many people are somehow disturbed by the flashing. Negatively, the DST switch is stiff as heck and harder to change but luckily you only need to do that one time. Thirdly I went into the guest room where the original clock is still going and easily moved the time two minutes forward to make it correct... still works great after 10 years of constant use WITH THE ORIGINAL BACK UP BATTERY! Original Review 2007: What a great surprise! I ordered this simply to have a clock in the bedroom that could be read in the dark without glasses... and that is exactly what I got, but much much more! I plugged this guy in and it showed the correct time! Checked the instruction pamphlet (actually printed large enough to read!) and found that this clock will automatically keep up with the correct time and automatically reset for changes to daylight savings and back! This is great for me because we have a lot of clocks and getting them all changed twice a year is a real chore... especially the ones that require two buttons pushed at once or whatever. I've been buying expensive atomic clocks simply to get rid of this problem, but this one is MUCH better than an atomic, where you have to diddle with getting good reception and then wait while it updates... sometimes overnight! This little guy is programmed for all time zones, just flip a well labeled switch on the back to select yours... not a menu, a good old switch that you just have to change one time! What a great invention... I hope all clocks will adopt this system. NO worry about power outages, no problems if you're moving... just unplug it and plug it in at your new location... it kept time while it was unplugged! And as far as being readable in the dark, the numbers are so big it's almost scarey when you look at it at night... 10 STARS! I'll get back with an update if I discover any problems or failures. UPDATE after one year of use. 1. This clock has never failed to show the correct time and has never failed to alarm properly, even in my rural area where power blips are a norm. 2. One reviewer says there's no way to change the time if it's wrong... that's INCORRECT! 3. One reviewer can't figure how the clock knows what time it is... well obviously it's set initially in the factory... but probably the reviewer was just joking. It is set up and maintains its settings with a small battery which is rated "up to 5 years" durability. 4. Another reviewer pulled the batteries and says this ruined his clock... can't imagine why he'd pull the batteries in the first place, but I do know there are instructions for doing this. Do note that the clock itself is the plug-in type... it only uses the battery to power the memory/setup chip. After a year of use, this is still my favorite clock and I get mad every time I have to change batteries on my Atomic Clocks because they are such a hassle and I paid over twice as much for them. This is the one to buy. I am looking for Chaney to come out with one that can show me the outdoor temperature as well and I'll scrap all my junky atomics.

Easy to read and good brightness but no special accuracy.

This clock is as perfect as it could be for my needs. I wanted a clock with a large display that could be easily read from a distance in a dark bedroom without glasses. I also wanted one that did not light up the room like a flood light. The 2" display is clear and easy to read from anywhere in the room. As it came the display was a bit too bright but the red light did not cast too much light on the walls and ceiling. It was better than any of the other clocks I had tried. I still wanted it to be a bit lighter. I ordered two 6" sheets of polarizing film from amazon.com and experimented with various angles till I got a brightness that was bright enough in a well lite room but was more subdued in the dark room. I then cut them to fit the display. Perfect (but about $50 total). The clock is solid attractive and well built. The semicolon does not blink. The brightness in a dark room is more than enough but in its original brightness did not interfere with sleep for my wife or me. We did not want an alarm clock so we did not mind that the speaker is mounted on the bottom so it might be difficult to hear. The switch to turn the alarm off after the snooze is on the back and probably would require some care to find it. All slide switches on the back are difficult to slide but might get easier with ware. Except for the alarm the slide switches are seldom needed. The time is set with push buttons plus and minus. The time out of the box was within thirty seconds of correct. Without radio reception from the "Atomic Clock" this is remarkable, better than any quartz time source. I reset it and it has held within a few seconds after several days. Without any other time correction I suspect the clock uses a processor that holds a correction number that is added or subtracted on a regular basis to correct for the error in a quarts oscillator. This would be initially set at the end of manufacture then corrected each time the time is set. If this is correct then the time should only be set from an accurate source such as the "Atomic Clock" signal. I don't know this is correct but I know something about electronics and I can't imagine how it could be achieved otherwise. An actual atomic clock is far too large and expensive and there is no other timing source that could fit into the package. Update! Update! Update! I was too clever. I believe the time is simply controlled by a crystal oscillator which can drift off by three seconds per month or more. There is nothing special about this. It can keep time without AC power but only to the accuracy of the crystal. A clock that uses the AC power frequency would be much more accurate except if the power goes off. If you set it every now and then it is good or if you don't care about accuracy it is OK. It is a shame they didn't use the crystal only when the AC is not present. Still I think it is a good buy. Overall I am pleased!

This clock makes me angry, and that's because this product had such great potential. The display is bright and large, but I don't find that it's too bright during the night, and it's not distracting. The issue is with the "alarm-off" switch - there's a snooze button, however there is no real alarm off button to stop the alarm while it is alarming. Instead, you must push the incredibly stiff and jerky sliding switch that is inconveniently located on the back of the unit to switch from alarm mode on to off, meaning this also disables the alarm altogether and if left in this state it won't go off the next day when you need to wake up, unless you are sure to switch it back over to on. When you wake up in the morning all groggy eyed, fighting with a stiff switch is not an easy task, and so while you'll leave your bedroom wide awake after dealing with the clock, you'll likely start your day off in a bad mood - every day. All of that aside, the alarm sounds like a cross between a telephone ringtone and an electronic egg timer (or at least that's what it sounds like when it wakes me up - I'm sure that others may hear it differently). Upon arrival, it looked like the package had already been sold to someone and opened, as the base of the plastic packaging was cut and taped, and the protective adhesive clear plastic layer that covered the face of the clock looked like it had been removed and reapplied. In addition, there was a small scratch on the back of the unit. I'll keep it as a large display clock since I am a glasses-wearer and am otherwise blind without the help of my glasses, but I may need to invest in something different to wake me up with in the morning.

Great clock

Bought it for my 89 year old mom. Her eyesight is pretty bad. She loves this clock. Says she no longer has any problems seeing the time.

Bought this as a gift for a residence that has power failures quite often. Well first one occurred and when power was restored the clock set the right time auto. Perfect unit for anyone who has difficulty re setting the time. And I am told the numbers are very readable from a distance. The receipiant has been very happy so far..

Great purchase

I love seeing the time from a distance. I am not using this as an alarm clock but just to better see the time. So for me, this item is perfect and just what i wanted. I am so glad and happy with my product.

Easy to see and easy to set up.

The clock was very easy to set up. The battery backup is great for keeping the time over power failures. I also like the feature of automatically adjusting the time between standard time and daylight savings time.
