Quality product that makes life easy
Second unit. Works like a charm. Set up took a bit longe than expected, but once I knew the routine it was easy.

Nice features
Bought this when our old programmable thermostat died. I love the vacation setting. We were gone for a week during a very cold spell. Set it for 60F for the week were to be gone with it going back to it's normal program at noon on our return date. Saved money on gas for that week, but returned to a toasty warm home. Very easy to program. Didn't want one that required an electric source. I dislike touch screens, but this one works OK.

Good thermostat that could be a bit better
First off, this thermostat looks great, is easy to operate, and installed relatively easily. Most of my issues were with the wiring that the original builder of the house did, leaving me with very short leads. Otherwise, it was easy to install and setup. Mine is running a heat pump. I only have two issues with the unit after owning it for a couple of weeks. 1) Recovery mode seems to start about 10 minutes per degree ahead of the scheduled time. For example, in heating mode if the house temperature needs to be raised 2 degrees it starts 20 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. Anybody that owns a heat pump knows that this is not nearly long enough. I am hoping that the thermostat learns with time that it needs to start way earlier. But I would have thought that by now it would have made a big adjustment to compensate. I may just have to set the "Wake" time to an hour earlier, or perhaps go to 4 events per day (I am using only two) and program in a ramp-up myself. 2) There is no indication that the heat pump is in defrost mode. This is a minor nit, but my old Honeywell would light up the aux heat light anytime the unit is in defrost. There is allegedly an indication on the display that the aux heat is on when commanded by the unit, but I have not seen that yet. It probably works, but has just not been cold enough. Still even in that case, I would like to see a light when the auxiliary heat is running. There is a fault light on the unit, maybe I can make that into an aux heat light. It is a nice thermostat, but could be a bit better. Edit: this morning it was cold enough that the system had to use the auxiliary heat. It does light up the emergency heat light when doing so. Not in defrost mode though. I think only when the thermostat calls for heat, not when the defrost circuit calls for heat even though those wires are all tied together.

All the features I need, easy to operate
I got this unit to replace a programmable thermostat with a failing "heat" mechanical button. I wanted a full touch screen operating unit to avoid mechanical switch failure again. This unit has way more features and capability than I'll ever need, and it has worked well. It is easy for me to program after reading the instructions. The actual temperature display is large enough to be read easily from a distance. The display has plenty of information to know what's going on all the time. My only two quibbles: 1) the unit I received was reading temperature at three degrees lower than actual, so it would heat more than I wanted. This was corrected in the setup (allows up to a four degree correction factor) but it seems a key expectation of a thermostat should be accurate temperature reading, certainly better than 3 degrees off. 2) The fan control touch button area is right up in a corner, it would have been better to have it further away from the edge of the screen. It's best if you have enough wires coming from the 24 volt power source (in my case, the furnace) to hook up the common terminal so it lights up the face all the time, and does not use the battery except for backup. Without that, it's harder to read especially at night. I needed four wires total (call for heat, call for fan only, and both sides of 24 volts). Overall, I recommend this unit.

Impressive, good product - does what it's supposed to
So I purchased this thermostat because I wanted to update the thermostat on my old 90% high efficiency furnace. On the one hand this product is way overkill for what I needed. I don't have multiple thermostats in the house, want to connect it so I can control it remotely, or even have a multi speed fan. The 8600 model would have met my needs for a setback thermostat with circulate mode. I wanted circulate functionality that wasn't on my old thermostat so the fan will come on and circulate the air in the house to minimize hot and cold spots/rooms. We get a lot of sunshine on the southern and western side of the house. When the sun warms up parts of the house cool spots develop in rooms that are away from the sunshine - and of course the rooms with the sunshine get pretty darn warm. The CIRC mode kicks in regularly to start the fan on hourly intervals and will hopefully minimize the hot and cool rooms we've had previously. The only challenge I had in installing was the my convention furnace thermostat had only 4 wires for the thermostat (Y,G,R,W) an additional common wire was required for this new thermostat. It was there in the wall but tucked back into the drywall and unused previously because it wasn't required. For the new thermostat the additional wire was needed for the common "C" terminal to complete the circuit. In order to use this additional "common" wire I had to also connect it to the "C" terminal on the wiring board in the furnace. This in addition to adding another jumper wire between the "RH" or "RC" and "R" terminals got me working and in fine shape with my new thermostat. If you don't need all the additional functionality of the 8800 check out the 8600, I found the price to be about $25 less for the 8800 as compared with the lower functioning 8600. I decided not to pay more for less functionality. Heck 10 or 15 years from now when I want to upgrade my heating and cooling system I may be able to use some of this advanced functionality ;-)

Works Well
I must admit it took me several tries to figure out the system. I needed a service man to do the wiring as I did not know myself how it worked. Under normal function, the thermostat works on a 4 event day: 1. getting up 2. leaving for work 3.arriving home from work 4. going to bed You need to set for the 4 events for one day. Then you can copy those events for succeding days. There are other settings for vacation etc. The only change we made was for bedtime which we put at 20 rather than 21. It has settings for both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
