A must have and easy to install

Not Fort Knox, but good enough to hold the gate closed

Anyone expecting a high-security device will likely be disappointed. However, if you just want a lock that holds the gate closed and provides some security against the casual/lazy intruder, this will work well. I’m sure that my gate security could be defeated in 5 or 10 minutes by a reasonably determined intruder with a toolbox of normal hand tools. After all, that’s pretty much all I used to install everything. Even with the Pin Lock I bought, someone with a socket wrench could dismount everything after a bit of work. An intruder would be slowed down some, but not stopped. Long before then, my secondary security measures will have alerted me to such activity anyway. This lock’s latch can be pushed back with a thin piece of metal, but the gate opener arm would still hold the gate mostly closed. Also, as provided, the lock’s clevis pin/cap assembly is not terribly secure. Another reviewer mentioned how he improved the security of that assembly. Overall I was fairly satisfied with this product because I had a realistic expectation of the level of security provided. It was not very hard to install once I figured out which hardware would work for my particular application. They don’t include hardware since every application/installation might be quite different. That made sense to me, although some other reviews seemed to expect an assortment of mounting hardware to come with it. I took some measurements, bought some appropriate U-bolts & washers, and drilled one hole. I still need to cut off the long ends of the larger U-bolt, but since I couldn’t find that one in stainless, I’ll need to paint the cut ends so they won’t rust. I’ll probably just prime/paint all of the mounting hardware anyway. If you really want a gate system that’s difficult for intruders to defeat, you’d weld everything so that a socket wrench couldn’t take it apart. Of course, then repair would be a lot harder. Also, anyone who knows the basics of the automatic gate opener could cycle it by jumpering some wires or hooking up a car battery to the motor and solenoid wires. For better security you’d want to put the wiring inside conduit and enclose the control box inside something sturdy. Also upgrade the remote/wireless part to a more modern one that uses rolling codes instead of static DIP switch settings. I’m not putting all my security eggs in one (gate) basket, so this did pretty much what I expected, and I’m reasonably satisfied.

Works great

My son installed this gate lock on our electric gate. Because it is a stock gate he had to have brackets manufactured for it. We had problems with the gate blowing open in the wind and the dogs getting out. Now it remains shut with this lock, I can hear it click when it closes, and I no longer have to chain the gate shut. It has been a life saver for me and I feel safer.

Good Product with some Limitations

Good product, provides much needed security to a closed gate, however.... The latch only adjusts left and right. If your gate develops a droop and begins to hit the bottom of the latch opening it will cause the gate to hang especially in freezing weather after rain or snow. The lock pin is held in place only by a flimsy friction cap. It can be easily pried loose by someone who wants to defeat the lock. If the gate limit adjustment drifts so that the gate doesn't quite close (like inch or less from latching) users may be tempted to manually close which they can do easily. The next operation may result in the gate failing to open on the first press and then with subsequent presses become very confused. In one case the MM560 actuator arm pushed the gate in the closed direction so hard that it broke a post bracket bolt. Possibly an optical sensor on the lock assembly would make this more foolproof. Again a good product, but be prepared to have to adjust your closed limits about once every month or two to make it latch and unlatch properly, also to adjust lock position vertically.

Keeps gate latched shut but not meant for security

Overall the gate lock works well. It seems though that it has made my controllers connectivity a lot shorter; I used to be able to stand at my door (about 75 feet) and open my gate but now I have to be within probably 20 feet from the control box for it to activate. I had to custom make a plate/instation bracket for the auto lock assembly but I have a small 110v mig welder so that wasn’t really an issue - just had to buy a length of flat 2” steel, cut it about 5.5” and spot welded it together. After that I fully welded the plate in place and painted it. I just drilled holes and bolted it on as I didn’t want anything too permanent incase it failed to operate and I need to remove it easier. After mounting it the wiring was easy just two wires into the control board black and red. It unlocks a split second before the gate activates - very smart programming there! Works great! Now the bad and why it only gets 4 stars... I can pick this lock in about 10 seconds!!! The latch mechanism inside the can be pushed in to unlatch the catch! All you need is a thin flathead screwdriver and voila! Your gate is unlocked-open! Not real happy about that for over $100! So it’s not a real “security” lock. It’s more to keep the gate from blowing open when there’s a little “slack” between the closed position of the motor. It is a good trapasser deterant though. Besides - if a thief or trespasser really wants on your property they’re going to get in one way or another. Thanks for reading.

Great product

Works as promised, easy to install. stabilizes the gate in strong winds and adds security. Only down fall is the price, expensive for what it is. If it last for many years then it will be worth the $$.
