Perfect combination of Nostalgia, Strategy, and Fun!
My favorite card/board game, hands down. When my brother brought this home for a holiday and taught the family how to play, I instantly fell in love with the card Heroes, Spells, Abilities, etc, as they all referenced my favorite NES games, 80s movies, and all the nostalgia I hold dear. Basic concept: You are a monster. Your goal is to build a dungeon and lure heroes to their doom. You win when you either get hit by 5 attacks from heroes, or you gather 10 hero souls, from which you collect when they meet their untimely demise in your strategically crafted dungeon. *insert evil laughter here* There is a bit of a learning curve, and takes a few run throughs to get a hang of things, but definitely well worth the time invested. Once you get the hang of it, this turn-based card game delivers. My first time playing I lost (to my non-geeky wife, nonetheless)... but for the first time in my life playing a game, I wasn't sad and didn't care if I won or lost, because it was so much fun playing! Since then, I have bought it for myself, and gifted to multiple friends, and have yet to find someone who doesn't like the game. Kudos to the creators and looking forward to playing the expansions!

Scuffed Box on Arrival (Cards still in good condition)
Order came wrapped up tightly in plastic wrap but was beat up pretty bad. I don’t know if it was the people delivering it or what, I’m just surprised the inside plastic got dented and cracked so badly. Cards are in great shape which is why I’m still somewhat happy overall, but if you want it looking new if you’re a stickler for your tabletop game boxes games then I’d say go out to a store and buy it in person. Boxes get beaten up overtime anyways, it’s the quality of the game itself that matters and I do want to repeat, the cards in in great condition!

I had been considering purchasing this game for a couple of years. When I finally decided upon purchasing it, I found that is wasn't disappointed. So far it has been only used for 2 player games. Mostly because Its just me and my girlfriend that play together. We found the rules pretty simple to understand. Though it did take a few play throughs to get the hang of it. For her, she had never played a TCG or CCG before, so she didn't catch on to the cards abilities for the first two games. Though, it was very user friendly in the sense that she was able to pick it up. I would personally say that this game does have tons of replay value. And although the cards tend to seem redundant at times, it does provide enough entertainment to play a couple times in a row. I'm personally considering purchasing the expansions just to gain some new monster rooms. And perhaps someone else would as well. However, with just the basic set, it is a fun and strategic game, were randomness and luck of the draw can make or break you. Furthermore, your other players and you can interact with spells to either help or harm each other. Giving much more strategic value. For anyone looking into this, I would say that it is a great game for any collection.

Tons of fun, but play a practice round!
This game was so much fun. I bought it during an amazon sale and have no regrets! Boss Monster is used for a regular game-night group that often plays DND but looks for alternative games. Boss Monster is great for 2 to 4 players! Most cards have a person total on the bottom for when you choose to play with two, three, or four players. This helps to specify which cards are for bigger groups, which is very useful when only playing with two people. The overall premise of this game is to build a dungeon that lures npc characters in, which will be their demise. Once you have gathered the most soul tokens, you win. This game can be hard to understand early on, so read thoroughly and play a practice round or two so you understand before just diving in. I highly recommend buying this game if you like playing games with friends! We play a lot of different things, and this is one of my favorites!

Not perfect, but super fun if you give it a solid chance
Like many people in these reviews, at first I thought this game was a bit simple, boring, etc. But the more I played it the more I realized I didn't really know how to play it. I guess the main fault with it is that you can easily play it in a very simple and one-dimensional way, even after reading the instructions. Part of the problem is the instructions leave out some rather important details about how turns work, and also give no good examples to speak of. Once my playing partner and I played 4 or 5 games and spent some time looking up online the finer points of the rules and how each card and spell worked, we started to have a lot more fun. Yes, there is a lot of chance to the game that no amount of skill on your part can overcome if you are at a disadvantage. But once you can play at a decent speed, the games go fast enough that you don't let it frustrate you too much and move on to the next round, where most likely you'll do better. That's not to say there is no skill involved, the best luck of the draw means nothing if you can't strategize and think ahead a bit, and most importantly, use your cards to sabotage your opponent at every opportunity (or hold that special Spell card for just the right time). I'd give it 5 stars if it had just a few more interesting bosses (I don't know if it's a defect or what but two of my bosses have exactly the same level up ability, but even then only a couple of them have cool things they do). Also, I will always ding a game's rating for not having a really good manual. This one is "meh", not too bad but not good enough. Without the online resources I probably would have given up on this game, or written my own rules.

Looks great, plays fine
Looks stylish and is computer game themed, which I loved, but just seems small for what you pay for. The product does look great and plays well, just doesn't quite give enough, especially seeing as the boss monster side of it really doesn't seem all that important, or impressive, in the overall game. There's about 8 bosses at most in this, compared to vast amounts of heroes (epic heroes included). I'd say that it clearly is a good game but deliberately left out parts for expansion opportunities, seriously what game (that is themed with boss monsters) misses out having a dragon for a boss? I feel that the luck of the draw is more pivotal than anything else and so certain aspects are just fluff for you to see. This doesn't mean it's bad, but just simply misses the 5 star rating. It's a very attractive theme and has a great appeal and is not a bad product to play with friends or a partner, but is just overly complicated for newbies and really don't suit the "fun for all the family" as it were.

9.5/10 - Very Enjoyable - Strategic game play - Easy to learn.
Highly recommend this card game, it is complex enough to keep you entertained allowing you to strategize, but not too hard to stress you out trying to actually learn how to play. You can expand the game play with expansion packs, adding more complexity and card variety. The game is 2 - 4 players, but one of the expansion packs allows you to increase that to 6 players, which is pretty cool. Oh, and the artwork on the cards are mint, especially if your an old school retro gamer.

Be the bad guy and kill the heros.
This is a simple game to understand and it is really great fun. You build up to 5 rooms for random adventuring heroes to go through. Each room attracts a certain type of 4 different adventures fighter, mage, cleric or thief and each room does a certain amount of damage to those heroes. If you kill the hero you keep him and score a point, however if the hero goes through your rooms and lives he damages you for a point. There are many different rooms and effects and you also get spell cards to help you or hinder your opponents. This is D&D with a twist, now you are the bad guy. And get to kill the heroes.

really fun game
this is not a game for newbies to board games, or for young children. the rules take a little time to wrap your head round however the website has a good video demonstrating how to play so its easy to pick up. after that its really quite self explanatory. fun game, fun concept, fun pictures, great strategy game. highly recommend :)
