A necessary evil, but always buy OEM.
I love the Airmega HEPA filter — we keep it running on low 24/7, and crank it up to high during “smoke season” (which sadly has become an almost annual occurrence in the Pacific Northwest). Based on that usage, we generally have to replace the filter element every 6-9 months. I will only buy OEM (this product). Visually there is no way to identify whether a cheaper, third party replacement element is actually certified — I.e., whether it will indeed remove what it’s supposed to remove from the air. This means that I’m paying 2-3x more in price for the Coway, but it is what it is. One thing to note — this item includes a complete set of 2 filter elements, one for each side. So don’t buy two — you only need one!

Twice as much as the others, but dang do they do a good job
You can get cheaper replacements, but they are worth what you pay for them.

Filters great, but odor reducing carbon stops working after about 3 months.
The carbon gets saturated very quickly, and after 2-3 months it is bascially just a regular hepa filter, and doesn't do much for odors and fumes. They are pretty expensive. I tried one aftermarket brand for half the price that seemed to be fine - but hard to really quantifiablely compare the two.

Super fast shipping means cleaner air fast!
After a long winter of back to back colds, I finally decided to do a whole house clean including changing of filters of everything in my house. My old filter on my coway airmega 400 was less than a year old and it wasn't all that dirty but it is hard to know how much stuff is stuck in the filters that can't be seen with the naked eye. Anyway, I ordered filters for our various units from Costco, home depot and Amazon on Thursday and my filter from Amazon arrived on Friday morning. The filters arrived perfectly packaged without any damage and I installed them. Fresh air again! So happy they came fast and in perfect condition. These are close to $40 cheaper than on coway.com foe the exact OEM filter. Thank you, Amazon!!

Well made OEM filters
These filters, along with many from other companies, apply a lot of marketing spin to persuade you that their filters are superior. In fairness these do appear to be well constructed, though I'm dubious of any claims that the filter media itself beats the HEPA spec or is superior at catching ultrafine particles. Mundane things to prevent air leakage like the foam tape around the filters edges and consistent tolerances mean the most in terms of any OEM quality advantage. Coway tries to play games with efficiency numbers that dance around the 99.97% @ 0.3 micron MPPS spec upon which HEPA is based. You'll often see higher efficiency listed based on smaller sizes like 99.98% of SARS-CoV-2 or 99.999% @ 0.01 micron. This is inherent to the properties of HEPA material and the way it arrests particles based on different mechanisms of impaction, interception, and diffusion. OEM
The Coway store on Amazon is not ran by Coway, but by Amazon which you can tell by where it comes from in addition to there being the official store link. Amazon buys a lot of product of whatever they think will sell to allow much faster delivery of goods. They don't buy knock offs and sell under the Company name so you can trust these filters are legit and much cheaper than from Coway as Amazon pays much less to buy bulk which then translates that savings to the consumer as well. In addiiton, the merv 13 rating is a typo it's merv 17 according to Amazon themselves. The filters specification numbers don't filter to the same specifications you see on the machine because it's a collective process of filtration so that's why it seems like they aren't the same...remember their machine setup and the pre filter adds to those filtration numbers.

Out-gassing is fierce
The Coway Airmega has worked really well for me so far- this is my first filter change. This was the only filter I could find anywhere and as others have said there is strong out-gassing. Hoping it gets better. I have to wear a strong mask to breathe. I live in an apartment building or I'd put it outside for a little while. I hope we get more filter choices or that they are made more carefully so that we don't have this level of outgassing. It makes it really hard for me to breathe.
