If you have a Moen Moentrol valve and trim, this is your answer

If you have a Moen Moentrol valve and trim, which has been discontinued by Moen, this trim set will allow you to change your trim without the major work of replacing the valve. I was updating all my fixtures in the bathroom to black. I could find everything I needed except the shower valve trim. After several calls to Moen and other shower trim providers, this Danco black shower trim was the only option available, even on ebay. There were still a few Moentrol trim sets available in other finishes but not in flat black. The handle wasn't the design I was looking for and because of the shape of the handle, it's a little difficult to pull out the handle on a Moen Moentrol valve. That is why Moen shaped the Moentrol handle in a tee shape, since you pull out a Moentrol valve to turn on the water. After seeing that Danco previously updated this trim because of user comments, I'd be surprised if they don't offer additional handle options for the pull out Moentrol valve within a few months. Anyhow, the installation was a breeze and very easy to follow. They even have a video guide, a bit over the top, but for those who have never replaced a trim set, I'd bet it was really appreciated. I'm glad Danco provided this trim set, otherwise I would have had to remove a portion of the back wall to get access to replace the valve. That would have been a day's job instead of a few minutes, thanks Danco.

Perfect Retro Fit

In the above home we were doing a 3 out of 4 bathroom over hall All of them had the 80s gold. Initially we thought we had to hire a plumber to come in and change out the valve which was a costly process. WRONG! With this product it is a retrofit that works beautifully. In the 1st photo you see the package which include everything you need except the tools. The 2nd photo is the original of one of the bathrooms showing the gold faucet control of a shower. In the 3rd photo you can see the contents of the package set out (please disregard the location but this was a bathroom redo). In photo 4 you see the opening showing the existing valve (after the old control and faucet have been removed) and in the following photo, #5, you see that one of the sleeves that come with the set has been placed on the valve. You must use the one that fits properly. In the next photo (#6), you can see there are three flat plates provided in the set. In the package one of the plates appears to be connected to the ring. If it is not the one that fits properly, you need to snap it out and find the right plate. Compare the screw positions of the original one and find the matching one in the set. Snap that plate into the outer ring and lining it up, place it over the valve right fitting it against the wall. Photo #7 shows the assembly properly fitting to the wall. Using the new screws, attach the fitting to the wall. The set provides two handles. One that is like the original and the other is the same color as the plate. Unfortunately I could not get the oil rubbed bronze handle to connect without wobbling so I connected the new twist "teardrop" handle shown in Photo #8. The last photo, #9 is of one of the bathrooms showing the finished product of a tub with the spout installed as well. We were so pleased at how easy it was to install this and how the finished product looked. It took a little while for me to figure out how to start this process but once I did, it sailed to the finish line. Though I don't believe it was an issue the only negative I saw was the plate is plastic.

Fit my old Moen faucet knob from the 70s.

Kit was able to replace my old faucet know very easily. Perfect fit. Wish that we were able to select just the components which we need based on our type of faucet fit for a slightly lower price.

Nice retro fit to upgrade old trim

Got 2 of these recently, easy to install for me had no issues with anything being loose or wobbly, maybe bad reviews didn't install correct parts or something. Only I didn't like is the plastic trim face. Everything else was metal and nice. Just felt for the money the face trim could've been metal also

You get what you pay for

This was so confusing to install. At the end, it looked odd, so I was confused thinking it was missing something. Anyway, the based is plastic, but I realized the one I removed was plastic too so I guess this is very common. It does not look that pretty though. This is more a 3 1/2 star.

Worked well but pricey.

I had an old Moen Standard Valve and this worked to update the trim plate and handle to Oil Rubbed Bronze. Took about 10 minutes to remove and install new kit.

Not Brush Nickel

If you don't what brush nickel this would be perfect. We however have brush nickel thru out our bathroom, this is NOT brush nickel.

Product works as described

Price point for this product is very reasonable the backplate is plastic but so are the ones at Home Depot that say they're Moen brand. I was concerned because people are having trouble installing wobbly knob excetera. While putting this together I discovered a couple of reasons why people are having this issue. But when you understand how the knob is supposed to go together and actually get it tightened properly it works just fine.

EXCELLENT DANCO PRODUCT

This Danco 10001 Universal Trim Kit for Moen in Chrome is an excellent product. It took me about 1 hour to get through the instructions and complete the installation. The instructions were easy to follow and the good quality parts fit properly. Removal of the old original Moen parts and the installation of the Danco replacement parts was easy and straightforward. The unit works as expected and as you can see in the accompanying photo, it looks very nice. Thanks Danco for making a great replacement product. Highly recommended. [CAUTION NOTE: One important thing to remember if you're going to use this bath faucet handle is to grab and pull the handle by the centre of the handle to turn the water on and to push the handle back in the same fashion to turn the water off. Do not use the handle lever to turn the water on or off as this may put undue stress on the unit. The lever portion of the handle should only be used to adjust the water temperature by turning the lever from left to right and vice versa.]

Plastic trim but metal handle - longer handle is kinda wobbly.

The trim piece is plastic but it looks real enough. The parts inside the trim look a little cheap one assembled - but just a little. At first glance it looks good though. The longer handle (vs. the knob) is a little wobbly but I don't think it's going to get worse unless someone abuses it. I've tightened things properly but it's still has a little bit of play. Overall I'd recommend this if you want to save a few bucks and still want something that looks good.

good for the money i think

the cover is plastic but fits well on a well finished tile wall. the set screw for the handle could be bigger, and the finishing screws seem to rust after 6 mo. i dabbed on some Vaseline to the screws to solve that issue....all in all, good for the money i think. just take your time installing it and dont over tighten any of it and it will work fine.
