For locking the door on the inside only.
For the price, product is acceptable. It felt like a cheap steel lock, but closer examination of my original antique locks revealed similar construction. I have an old farm house that had the original locks had rusted to the point that they were inoperable. Product was a drop in replacement. One screw holds the lock coverplate on. The latch can be switched around for an opposite opening door by removing the coverplate, removing the latch spring, flipping the latch around, and replacing the spring, and resecuring the coverplate. A 1/8" drill bit is required for installing the flat head screws that mount the lock and striker plate, a 25\64" drill bit is needed for drilling the handle shank. The skeleton key hole takes a slightly larger drill bit. Do not over tighten the door knobs on the shank or the latch will be hard to operate. Ensure the key and handle shank are aligned before drilling holds for the coverplate. The key will not lock the door from the outside, it only unlocks the door, if locked. The key will only lock the door from the inside. The latch has a lock, so the key is really unnecessary. If the latch is locked, the door must be unlocked from the inside, so that a child could lock you out. The key does not operate the door latch lock.

If you Compare the mechanism of this to an antique rim lock, the antique is far superior. But, if you are looking for a rim lock that works okay, but don't want to shell out $30.00 for an old one, than this is yours. As stated in other reviews, it is almost impossible to lock the dead bolt from the outside unless you file down some of the metal. I was installing this on an old door that had no previous holes in it. I used a spade bit for the Door knob spindle hole, but I wasn't sure what to use for the dead bolt. I would have just used a big spade bit, or even drill a few holes diagonally, but I didn't want to have to file down some of the internal workings, and I also have a dead bolt with a key on that door, so I left the latch dead bolt alone. Overall, it's okay for your money.

Hard to find at this price!
I had to replace our old cast iron horizontal rim locks after a couple had broken. I did not want to spend a fortune. I just wanted to replace a functional piece of door hardware without having to drill more holes. These were as close to the originals I could find for the price! They are packaged in the form plastic which proved more difficult to open than the box. lol. but it was laid out clearly and easy to understand. I really wish the knob was available in other colors to match the hardware plates, but no matter. My only issue is that these are about a 1/8" off or so on the total dimensions of the hardware so I will have to fill old holes and re-do for the new set. Make note the screw holes will be offset if you are doing a replacement and you will need a drill. Next purchase will be a drill. lol. Otherwise it is great to find these so affordable. Granted not as heavy duty as the originals, but they will do!

It worked with tweaks
Pros- it works and looks ok Cons- definitely on the cheaper side. Had to take it apart and fix the springs on the first time using. It’s very noisy when you turn the handle. Trying to keep things on budget and this fit the budget, so for that it works but definitely not a high end product, but I knew that.

Rough handle grip
Door knob is rough. Not one solid knob but 2 pieces put together which causes the roughness. Hope that made sense!
