Lip on window determines usefulness

These devices are fairly bullet-proof - if they will fit. My aluminum apartment windows have a specific contour and these could not be installed, so I found at a local hardware store. Not a negative about these devices, just a caution!

Added security!

We added a portable a/c to a room that was warmer than the rest of the house. Using this unit makes the impact window not be fully closed. These give peace of mind that a bad guy can’t slide it open.

I bought it for a window frame

I bought in a local store same kind, but for some reason, I could not put it on the window frame to lock it and prevent someone try to open the window in case if we are not at home. Did not work, impossible to put it. I have it in a box.

Easier than a dowel rod- Quality product

These are the simplest and cheapest way to add security to any sliding windows. These are easier to use than any dowel rod and require less measuring. They withstand high pressure and are effective. QuickTip, if you have kiddos make sure they understand how to open these in the event of a fire or emergency. They take very little torque to get tight so have your kiddos test out how to use them at their strength level.

Worked for my aluminum window

I used this for my aluminum window, so that I can have the window open, and not be afraid that someone will accidentally fall out. It does the job. I just don't like that the screw side scratches my window. I had to place a small cardboard piece between the window and the window lock. It kinda looks tacky, and is annoying to have to adjust each time I want to move it.

Safe and Sound

I have had these types of window locks for many many years and they work great. The only caveat is that they should be used with metal and not plastic frames.

Fits Wider Window Runners

A few of our replacement windows have wider window slides or runners. I had a couple of old school window locks that were big enough. The new window locks I bought at the home repair center did not fit. The Defender Security locks arrived early and fit perfectly.
