The Best!

Best utensils ever. High quality and very durable. I purchased a spatula by this company at a kitchen store a few years ago and love it. It's my go to utensil when I'm at the stove. You will not be disappointed. I'm slowly replacing all my utensils with Epicurean. I wish Amazon sold the entire line of their products because they are expensive at a kitchen store.

Love this spoon.

I really like this spoon so much I might have to order the angler too. I love my instant pot and needed a utensil to saute, stir things around and break things up in the instant pot. My rubber spatulas are too flimsy or I am afraid they might get damaged from the high heat. I follow PressureLuckCooking and Jeffrey has a neat similar utensil that he uses in all his videos. I wish this was a little more of a spoon and had more of a flat front edge to break things up while sauteing. They do sell an angler and a sauteing utensil which I might have to buy. I like the quality and feel of the material. It looks like a bamboo and wood combination tho it says its made from wood. Its very sturdy. I am not sure if it could damage non stick surfaces, I would be careful. Its not sharp like metal but not soft like silicone. I always worry about my grandmothers wooden spoon going in the dishwasher or absorbing water. This is dishwasher safe. I hand washed it after linguine with clam sauce and it did not absorb any odors. At less than $10 its a nifty gadget for the kitchen. I plan to buy another Epicurean utensil.

Smells weird?

First of all this is not real "wood" it's actually made from wood fibers or something like that. When I took it out of the package I noticed a strange smell. I swear on my life it smells like a horse stable. Ok? No kidding! Anyway, I washed it and was afraid to smell it afterwards. So when I used it I noticed it just didn't have a good hand feel. The spoon is just too long, it's almost 1-2 inches longer than my other wood spoons, and it's just slightly too large of a handle width wise. Not my favorite spoon but it seems sturdy and served it's purpose.

Turning into a favorite!

Is it wood? Is it a composite containing wood? Is it made of alien fibers? This Epicurean Chef Series Utensils Large Spoon is rapidly turning into a favorite. It's got a tiny lip, making it good for both stirring and scooping. Over 13 inches long, it will reach into the deepest pan. The material is non-staining, approved for use in the dishwasher, and won't scratch your pans. You have to get used to the feel of the handle. It is flatter than my other wood spoons, which have round handles.

Best-of-All-Worlds Wooden Spoon

Although I used wooden spoons when I first started cooking, I switched to silicone ones primarily because they could be washed in the dishwasher and because they didn't split. This Epicurean spoon combines the best of wood -- no scratching, with a solidity from handle to tip -- and the best of non-wood -- dishwasher-safe. Because its made from composite material called Richlite (paper infused with resin), it does have an odd shape from being molded. It has a flat bottom and a shallow bowl. The spoon is for stirring, not scooping. I love that the handle is long enough to keep my hand from heat. The spoon is heat-safe safe up to 350 degrees. I've owned Epicurean cutting boards for a couple of years, but this is my first Epicurean utensil. It adds versatility to my cooking utensils as a supplement to the silicone ones I own. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Easy to clean and strong, but a bit too long

This wooden spoon is interesting. It's made up of tiny wood fibers that makes it very strong and dishwasher safe. It's very easy to clean, as the fibers don't fray like other wooden spoons. That being said, it's simply just too long for regular use. This would be best utilized for large, deep pots but not for things like making spaghetti sauce. I don't know why they made this so long, but it is just too awkward to use in a shallow pan. Besides that, it's high quality.

Eco-friendly, high quality, dishwasher safe alternative to wooden

I’m a die-hard Epicurean fan of many years and have purchased many of their boards for myself and gifts as well. This will be my first Epicurean utensil. I started purchasing boards from them when the company was pretty new and not well known. (I’m happy to see that they’re now selling in stores such as William’s Sonoma because they deserve it) The boards have stood the test of time and I highly recommend them. The wood composite they use in their products (which used to be used on skateboard ramps) is food safe, eco-friendly, lightweight, non-porous, and very durable. So far I’m loving this spoon. The handle is the perfect length and the spoon portion is just the right size. It’s dishwasher safe, unlike my other wooden spoons, which is a plus. (I don’t put wood in the dishwasher) It has a hole for hanging if desired. This spoon will be around for a long time. Worth the money. *It’s fun to check out their site and watch their video. Great eco-friendly company up north.
