Not a Metal trowel, no rust!!
Of course this is not a metal trowel, so you can not be as rough on it - save that for other garden tools. It is great in garden beds, and boxes that I have already had the DH run through with our heavy machinery, and then prepared the bed with lots of good stuff. Our gardens are nice and loose ready for planting, or weeding. This trowel had done a fantastic job without the weight of the metal trowels I was still happy to be using it hours later! No blisters either!! This is not a miniature hand shovel, it is a garden trowel. ;) I love the price, and absolutely love that it didn't rust while it was lost somewhere in our almost 2 acres of gardens! Yay for the bright orange stripe!!! I would suggest more orange for folks like me who forever loose garden tools temporarily! Hehe!! But No, it of course was not rusty as others are when left out in the environment unprotected. Which means I will be planting & digging with it again next year too!! I absolutely DO recommend this trowel - as long as you understand that you can not man handle, and rough it up like it's heavier counterparts ;) We hope our review is helpful!

Useful in potting mix or loose soil, or as a (slightly safer) toy for kids too young for metal trowels
First, this is a GREAT value when it's less than a dollar! Keep an eye on it, as the price seems to fluctuate a lot. I use these primarily as kids toys - my toddlers love them for scooping snow, splashing in mud puddles, etc. They're light enough, and the edges aren't sharp, so I don't mind them playing with these. But even though this is a plastic trowel, it can absolutely be used as a serious tool. It wouldn't stand up to heavy use in compacted soils, but then again, most inexpensive metal trowels don't either. I've used too many really cheap trowels where the metal just bends - these "composite" tools are definitely stronger than many of those. If you're potting plants in soil from a bag, or if you're working in any sort of plowed/tilled garden, this trowel will work just fine. And if you can get it for less than a buck, why not. My only hesitation is that they might start to become brittle if they're left out in the sun for a long time - this would probably take years, as mine are showing NO signs of weakening after a year. But at least they won't rust!

As long as you use it in soft/loose dirt, its great for the price. Don't expect to use a plastic trowel in tough soil!
I must start out by saying I noticed this through one of Amazon's recommendations and it was under $1 as an add-on item. So keeping in mind that it's under a buck and a name brand, I thought why not? Worse case it breaks and I'm out a dollar. I was surprised by how durable it actually is being made of plastic. It's far thicker than dollar store junk you could also get for the price. I will say, Its not something I'm going to use to dig in clay or any hard material, but if you are using it in potting soil or other loose soil, it's going to work great, plus its very light and of course, won't rust either. Like all tools, as long as it's used for the correct purpose, it's well worth the price <$1. If you expect to use this for digging in something that you'd normally use a good quality metal trowel for, you will break it.

I (don’t) dig it
It's a trowel. Lightweight, strong, and works thru GA rocky red clay. Update: The above review was about 10 months ago. I misplaced that first one and only recently replaced it. The handle on the new one broke on second use in wet muddy soil. I used it the exactly same way as I used the last so I have to conclude it’s not made of the same quality as before. To their credit, a replacement was shipped out based on the honor system, not needing me to return the broken one. Now I know its limitations. Update 2 Replacement broke as well. Must conclude that I (don’t) know it’s limitations and don’t care to find out. I was extra careful 2nd time around but the handle pops off like a bad joke. I know it’s not a shovel and not using it as such. Soft wet mud shouldn’t be a challenge. Many reviews suggest it’s only designed for scooping lose soil out of a bag, if that’s the case then why the pointed tip? Again I’ll conclude that there is a quality drift from the first one I bought about a year ago so now I’m done. Going for the metal one now.

Handy tool, good finish, lightweight
I bought this item to use along with my usual cat litter scoop. Instead of using little boxes I use large, plastic storage boxes. With their tall sides, I have very few problems with my cats going hog-wild while covering their mess and shoveling litter all over the room. The downside, though, is that the storage boxes and dips and curves around the outside edges of the bottom. I got the idea to get a hand shovel to use in that area to scrap all the litter out of it. I used this trowel for that purpose for the first time yesterday. The pointed tip works perfectly for this purpose. Additionally, the material of the trowel makes it less likely for dirty litter to cling to it. Also, it can be hung with the other littler cleaning tools. The unexpected bonus of this particular item is that it is very lightweight - litter is heavy enough on it's own. Glad I bought this!

Good product
Made of a composite "plastic" type material making it pretty light weight. I have used it many time but mostly for potting plants using potting soil. Works well under that condition. Have used it in the yard to dig up plants or deepen holes that have already been dug up some with a shovel and works well then also. Overall satisfied with purchase.

Great product worth of the fiskars name!
This product is outstanding! It is very heavy and sturdy and not cheap "plastic". I have dug holes in my heavy native clay soil and it didn't struggle or bend and I would be confident planting my garden and flowers with this full time in heavy soil. I use it personally in raised beds mostly with lose soil and it is great for that purpose, I like this product a lot! The dirt doesn't stick to it like it does on metal trowels and makes a pleasure to use. I bought extras for my children to use as play shovels and they have held up very well for that purpose. Not cheap shovels that are typically marketed to children, this one is study and usable by them and they love digging in the dirt with them. Will not rust if they accidentally leave it outside. Great product, highly recommended.

Great for metal detectorists as it doesn't keep setting off the detector while digging near it .
