These things really work. Nice nightlight... and stays lit when the power goes out. That item can be a big thing when the ground/house is moving around.

Great for power outages & nightlight for kids
They're not as bright as some others, but thats not a bad thing! They have 3 settings overall; off (obviously), dim, and "bright". The sensor that detects light works pretty well, lighting up the device even if a shadow is cast on it in a brightly lit room. They work great for power outages, so the room stays lit for anyone who gets up in the night and needs a guiding light to see.

These are fantastic!
The fact that it charges while it's plugged in and allows me to use it as a flashlight is a real plus. Also when you turn up the brightness, boy is it ever bright! Great product.

Let me tell you why THESE ARE THE BEST EMERGENCY LIGHTS, plus a BONUS MODIFICATION
These are probably the best emergency lights for most home applications, and here is why they beat most others in this class. First, the batteries are replaceable. These lights are not disposable. And the batteries can be replaced even when the power is out so they keep running if you are facing a power outage that lasts 48+ hours for example. HOWEVER - the type of battery you use can make a big difference. These lights ship with Energizer Max batteries. Those batteries have a 10yr shelf life and have a far less chance of leaking during storage. BUT if you replace them with something like ENERGIZER ULTIMATE LITHIUM you get a 20yr shelf life and nearly no chance of leaking. Also a good AA battery like the Ultimate Lithium has a 3000mah capacity, which is 6x - 8x the run time of most emergency lights in this class with rechargeable batteries. Speaking of the other units with rechargeable batteries - they are usually cheap NiMH or NiCd batteries with a short run time. But worse than a short run time, they are going to have a much shorter standby life. If you are buying emergency lights with sealed rechargeable batteries, you will probably want to replace the lights every 5 years. The only thing I did not like about these lights is the fact that they must be left on as nightlights to operate in a power outage. HOWEVER THERE IS A FAIRLY SIMPLE FIX FOR THAT. ********* HOW TO MODIFY THE LIGHT SO IT IS NOT A NIGHTLIGHT ********* In order to modify these lights so that they ONLY COME ON IN A POWER FAILURE, simply replace the photo cell with a 2.5k to 4.5k ohm resistor. The photo cell is mounted to the PCB with long leads, so you can clip it off and easily solder a resistor across the remaining legs without having to remove the PCB or solder to the PCB. It takes me about 5 minutes and 10 cents to modify one of these lights to operate exactly how I want them to. MISC RAMBLINGS I see a lot of people complain about brightness, run time or other characteristics of emergency lights. Emergency lights are really there to help you navigate your way to a better light :-) They prevent you from falling down stairs etc as you go GET TO YOUR LANTERN, FLASHLIGHT, CANDLE ETC. The last power outage my city had in the middle of the night, I had my portable scanner going and sure enough the calls started coming in to the fire dept reporting people falling inside their home. That is why you deploy emergency lights, to help you get around in the dark when it happens unexpectedly.

A must for every home
Works as an automatic night light for bathrooms, hallways, and stairs that switches to battery power if the electricity goes off. Can then be pulled from the outlet and used like a normal flashlight.

Perfect. Just what my dog and I needed!!
I received this light yesterday and it definitely meets my expectations. I wanted a power failure night light for all the usual reasons plus to help my older dog see at night. It's exactly what I needed. The light is quite bright, which is great, and can also be dimmed. I like that it uses external batteries in the event of a long power outage. A rechargeable night light usually only lasts a few hours when the power fails and then goes dead with no way to recharge again. I just need to remember to get a few extra battery packs for the winter. Otherwise, as a night light, it plugs directly into the wall and runs on electricity instead of batteries. Note that the night light does need to be switched on in order to stay lit if the power goes out. I've plugged mine in under my desk close to the dog bed so my boy can see and I can still get to sleep at night. As long as this product holds up over time I'll be very happy. If you're on the fence read through all the product information carefully. It seems like the negative reviews are from folks who weren't fully aware of the product details, but the description is fully accurate from my perspective. I'll post a future update if we have a power loss as battery usage, etc. But for now I highly recommend this light and would purchase it again for other rooms. Five stars.

Not compatible with UK plugs, not rechargeable as advertised
it comes with a US plug. It's not rechargeable, as the batteries inside are not rechargeable. Even if it was, it works on 110V. Triple A (Avoid Avoid Avoid). Return is also slighlty more complicated as it comes from the US.

Warning: This had USA voltage 120 not UK or EU 240
I bought these on Amazon UK but both had USA plugs and were listed at 120 volts whereas the UK and Europe are 240 volts. They won't work in Europe.
