Good Pickleball Set To Get Started, Paddles Are About 231 grams (8.1 ounces), Good Power, Low Spin
If you are thinking about getting into pickelball, this is a reasonably good set to pickup to get started. Of course you'll recognize the "Head" name. They've been making paddle and racket sports equipment or a while. When it comes to pickelball paddles, you've got the really cheap wooden ones. Next up are aluminum paddles. Get past those two and you get into the fiberglass paddles like these with a honeycomb type paddle core. Most anything you find in the $40 - $80 per paddle range will be some kind of fiberglass/plastic type material with a composite or maybe even a carbon surface (on the more expensive ones). In addition to different materials and construction, one major thing that usually separates paddles like this from the higher end more expensive paddles is a sand paper like surface on the more expensive paddles that help you put a spin on the ball when you hit it. These paddles don't seem to be perfectly smooth but they don't have a sandpaper like texture to them. If you want something for your first day on the pickleball court that will probably be good to use for a year as you get better, this is a good set to buy. If you get wooden or aluminum paddles, well, those are not very good paddles. You'll be able to go out on the court and play with wood or aluminum paddles and you'll have fun with them but once you try something like this you probably won't want to go back to the wood or aluminum paddles. In the mid-tier category, I'd call these power paddles. You can really smash the ball with them. Since these paddles do not have any grit on the surface you probably won't be putting much spin on the ball. When starting out, that isn't really anything you need to worry much about. The important thing is to just get the ball over the net without trying to get fancy. These paddles are fairly thin compared to some (pretty standard for mid range paddles) and for soft "dinking" up by the net, a more expensive paddle will probably be better but these will be fine to get started with. Overall, this is a nice set that comes with everything you need to get started. The bag it comes with is pretty cheap but since the paddles don't have grit on them you don't really need individual paddle covers. The bag works fine to keep everything together and carry your equipment to and from the court. If you think you want to start out with paddles that have some grit and still want a budget option, you may want to go for the Uteeqe set that is about the same as this but about half the price. A few friends play with those and are pretty happy with them. This is a solid beginner/intermediate paddle set that will be better than the really cheap paddles but you'll want to upgrade once you get better and really get into pickleball. If you've never played pickleball before your best bet is to borrow paddles from someone else. Try a few to see what you like and what feels good in your hand and then go buy a paddle. If you can't do that, this is a good starting option.

Don't Buy Wooden Paddles --This is Best Entry Way into Pickle Ball (fiberglass > wood/aluminum)
As a tennis player, head is a very well-known brand. Pickleball is sweeping the nation and when you jump into a sport you want a trusted name. Head has made some high-quality paddles at an affordable price. If you are thinking about jumping into pickleball this is probably the best set you can do. Wooden paddles are the absolute worst and aluminum is just okay. Don't start with junk, you have to put extra pressure on it to get it over, at best you are decent at the net. These allow you to rally well and really feel like you are moving. There's a higher tier of paddles than this, but I don't think you'll be looking into that if you are looking at this, those are $200 a pop. These paddles are made with honeycomb fiberglass. They are a lot more lighter and really let you take a whack at the ball. They don't have the nice texture that gives you great spin and feel like more expensive paddles. But they are equally serviceable for mid-tier players. It includes two balls made from Penn (a high-class brand in racquet sports as well). The bag is absolutely deplorable, I can only put it over one shoulder, I prefer more balance when I have a lot of stuff and need both straps. This is a great product and very affordable.

The proof is in the paddle!
My husband and I recently got into pickleball. He picked up a paddle set on Amazon and it works, but it's kind of rinkydink... some no-name brand that isn't USA Pickleball approved. I wasn't sure if there would actually be a difference, but there definitely is! Even the sound the ball makes when it hits the paddle is different from our previous set. I love that the set includes two Penn pickleballs and a carrying bag. I will say that while the balls are superior to the ones we had before, the bag leaves a lot to be desired. The paddles and balls fit in awkwardly, and the drawstring doesn't really work all too well; a zippered bag would be better. Overall though, we really like this set. You can really tell the workmanship that went into it.

Great Beginner Paddles
These paddles are a good step up from cheap intro paddles. The grips are soft and fit nicely in your hand. The paddles are sturdy and feel heavier than intro paddles with more rubber inside. They're still light and thin like intro paddles, but aren't as hollow and flat when you hit the ball. They give you more power and control and will improve your game. The colors are fun and bright too. Overall these are good paddles for beginner/intermediate players that want something more substantial than the intro kits.

Light but kind of small and really smooth.
I'm not an avid pickleball player, so my review is simply based on impressions rather than playing experience. I compared this to a set from Walmart I also had. There's no doubt at all that this is far superior. The cheaper set is pressboard and way heavier. This is a light, composite material. The balls were clearly made of better materials as well. The picture is this paddle next to a PCKL premium paddle I recently got. As you can see, the PCKL paddle is larger, but it is also a little lighter. Furthermore, it has a texture to help grip the ball. The HEAD paddle is smooth. Now, the 2-pack of HEAD paddles are about the same price as one of the PCKL premiums. So the HEAD paddle is mid-tier in the sub-$150 price ranges. I know there are crazy expensive paddles out there as well, but I have no interest in spending that kind of money.

Good Quality Pickleball Paddle
Pickleball is all the rage right now and these rackets are a definite step up from those that were included with the set we purchased. Sturdy composite in a solid material. Lightweight but still makes an impact. The grip feels flexible and more like a tennis racket than many others. The head is a smidge smaller, which is my only real complaint. Not professional quality, but a nice upgrade from the basic set.
