Main thing here from a progressional wildlife control operator I want to give a tip. when you trap rats unlike mice you must put the traps out with bait not set at all for a few days 2-4 days is usually enough. The traps will be licked clean if you have a problem and you will have those little buggers right where you want them. Set traps after the prebaiting period and check daily. When adding bait less is more remember that to much will mess with the function of the trap so just fill up the little cup or attach something to the hook. Rats are neophytes they are scared Leary and suspicious of new things unlike mice who are attracted to new things and shiny things mice traps you set to kill when you star but again rats you need prebait for a few days. If you do set right away for rats and they don’t get caught when the traps go off you will Never catch that rat again. Traps going off without getting the rat happens because they are smart so remember to prebait for a few days and get them used to the traps and used to eating off them. I want to also add the most important thing of all ENTRY points into the home if this is a structural problem. Without finding and closing the entry points all gaps into the home trapping is useless and is doing nothing but sweeping the problem under the rug and kicking the van down the road. They will still be coming in and pooping and peeing and damaging things. Ok now on to the review of the traps first they are the cheapest traps you can buy bulk so remember that. Sometimes 1-2 are hard to set but in the end they are just more sensitive which is good. They are good traps but not the superior quality of victor snap traps so don't expect to use these time after time or Professionall we use them 1-2 times and throw away but we prefer new traps so you could get maybe 5-10 uses if you are thrifty . They set up well have a nice big plastic trigger pan that works i tested it. Again these are not the quality of victor snap traps they wont last forever but if you want to use them 1-2 times they will work fine. You have to realize you are buying the cheapest rat snap traps out there right? I wouldn't believe the negative reviews after seeing and using the traps I would chalk it up to lack of experience with traps. I think the negative reviews are from people without any common sense who decided to buy budget traps and expect them to be victor quality Because they are not but they are effective and snap as hard as victors but just be ready to get 1-2 uses out of them more if you are lucky. I would Advise tightening the rod in the picture they fall off a lot. Also lastly if you read this all Remember to pre bait for a few days I said it so many times because it’s important and will lessen trapping time in the ends. After eating off the traps for a few days they will go the the trap without hesitation or suspicion and you will have the little buggers

These worked for me
I had never had a rat in my life then after hearing noises I found I had a problem in our crawlspace. Home remedies and various poisons were not working as they were not interested. I needed several so ordered a dozen of these and used apple pieces as bait. I caught 4 in the first night. The yellow platform makes it easier to bait. Some have been able to get the bait off without it going off but the other brands are much harder to keep bait on. I am on my way to wiping out my "problem", I hope. I wish you luck.

Updated trigger pad sucks!!! *Update*
Being in the pest control biz I have always used these. Bought no joke probably 3000+ over the years. Now recently for some reason they changed how the set bar is held. They are extremely hard to set and very displeased. I am considering switching brands. Please bring back the old way it holds the set bar. These are too tricky to set. 12/8/21: update I continued to order these as they are the cheapest. I go through multiple dozen a week for work. They eventually fixed the side clasp on the bar and they work great. I ordered another 20 boxes this month and saw they switched back to the old style with the "hook" bar.. they are so tricky to set now.. I'll make due, but I'm having clients pay me a $65 service call because they are unable to reset the traps.

Simple, efficient, cost effective
Rats managed to that through from an exterior utility closet into the kitchen. Sealed the hole, set half a dozen traps out. In two days the traps eliminated 7 rats! A week later, no more sightings, no more caught, problem alleviated! Effective, cost efficient, simple!

I ordered a dozen of them and my rat problem is gone (hopefully). It really was helpful to set as many traps as possible. Using baits also made a huge difference for me. As soon as I put a bit of left over pears on these traps, we got 2 rats and even a bird. The bird was a collateral damage. I gave it a 4-star because not all traps would set properly. I had to fiddle with at least 2 out of 12 to set correctly.

Not the best
Many of these traps randomly went off without being touched. They have a very strong fresh wood smell and need to be aired out prior to use. Not our favorite traps but not the worse either

New design is not good
The new design is not good. Trying to set this trap to sensitive takes every bit of 15 minutes. I set several traps and several did not kill the rat. They just politely took the bait that I even had tied onto the plate with string. Come back to find string and no bait at all with the trap being set to sensitive. The old trap had the lever on the side of the plate. Now the lever of in the middle of the plate. Very bad design. I won't be buying more of these unless they change it back to the old style.
