Good incandescent dimmer
Still my current favorite for incandescent dimmers. I will switch to LED lights once they get the technology better, at which time I'll have to buy a bunch of LED/CFL dimmers. I would buy those type of dimmers now, but the technology is still developing. All of the LED/CFL dimmers I have have a short (maybe 0.5 to 1 second) delay between switching the switch and the light actually turning on. It's a really minor nitpick, but my concern is it turns into one of those stupid piddly things that begins to be massively irritating to me over time, like sand in your shoes. My hope is at about the same time as the LED lighting technology gets to where it should be, the dimming technology will be advanced as well. Until then, I'm sticking to incandescents. If you are using LEDs or CFLs, don't get this switch since you won't get a very wide range of dimming (basically down to about 70%, then off).

works great, does not buzz with incandescents, but does run HOT
I bought this to replace a 600W dimmer. I have 8 cans with 65W BR30 incandescent bulbs, and I was worried about maxing out the 600W dimmer so I decided to replace it with this 1000W dimmer. If you know what you're doing with the wiring (which is very straightforward if you're just swapping dimmers) this one is very simple to install. It comes with wire nuts so you don't have to wrap wires around screws. It's also shallow, only one-inch deep, so the wire nuts will fit nicely in the junction box. I have this in its own box, which is next to a double box holding two regular non-dimmer switches. All three switches are covered by the same plate, but since the dimmer doesn't actually share a box, I didn't have to break off any of the tabs. Having said all this, this dimmer does run alarmingly hot. I can't hold my finger on the dimmer plate (not the gangplate, the metal plate on the front of the dimmer) or its screws for more than a second or two. I tested the temp with a laser thermometer and it was about 145 degrees F after 30 minutes at full brightness. I've read that UL standards allow dimmers to run up to 195 degrees, and that the average dimmer runs around 140 degrees, so this one appears to be operating normally. I won't leave those lights on when I'm not home, though. I know ... I should trust the UL standards ...

Hice High Wattage 3 way Dimmer Switch -- Perfect for Foyer Lighting
Can't find this switch in tin the home improvement stores due to the high wattage specification, dimmer and 3 way combination. Switch moves smoothly , as it should. Yes, it gets warm when dimming. This is expected as significant current is being shunted around the light fixture to ground. Be sure to read the instructions and do NOT remove the side tabs as they are for heat dissipation and will lower the wattage rating of the switch if removed

Great medium-wattage dimmer
This is a great dimmer for incandescent lighting, and it matches the current toggle switches in the house. It replaced a 600 watt dimmer of the same manufacturer. The switch has 11 recessed cans on it, each with 65 watt BR30 bulbs. Driving 715 watts on a 600 watt dimmer produced a lot of heat, and exceeded the rating of the dimmer, so the switch was always kept lower than half level. With the 1000 watt dimmer the slider can be placed at full level without worries. Some reviews mentioned that the dimmer gets hot around the switch plate. This is the case with most dimmers because that's the best place to dissipate the heat from the dimmer. The big aluminum plate on the front of the switch is the heat sink. It must be near free air to dissipate the heat properly. To keep the heat down reduce the current through the dimmer by reducing the wattage of your light bulbs.

Heat Issue
I purchased the 600-watt version of this switch first for a circuit which has 520 watts worth of incandescent bulbs on it. The 600-watt switch got extremely hot when set to the full brightness setting. I returned it for another 600-watt switch thinking it was a faulty switch. The second 600-watt switch behaved the same as the first. I returned the switch for a refund and then ordered the 1000-watt version. While the 1000-watt version also gets pretty warm when set to full brightness, it is no where near as hot as the 600-watt version would get. I'm going to keep an eye on it.

Three-way only works in a three light switch
Wanted to put in a bedroom, couldn’t because you can only use it on a switch that goes to three different lights.

Great dimmer
Replaced an old light fixture with a 16-bulb chandelier, and with 40W per bulb, the load was too much for my existing 600W dimmer switch. The dimmer switch was getting way too hot, to the point I was worried about an electrical fire. Replaced the old switch with this one in just about 10 minutes. While all dimmers get warm, this one is noticeably cooler, and sometimes it doesn't give off any noticeable heat at all. I highly recommend this. Installation is easy, and the dimmer works great.
