Good value but dusty

Best price I found per pound, but required a massive amount of washing to remove dust. Like 20 minutes at the sink for a couple handfuls. Still, once it was in the filter it worked great.

Don't use in water! The carbon pellets dissolve!!!

I use this carbon as one of the steps in water purification both for drinking and a saltwater aquarium. During the initial rinse (prior to using in my reverse osmosis de-ionization (RODI) system) the rinse water came out much much blacker than usual. This was due to approximately 5% of the pellets dissolving. Apparently not enough binder was used or the manufacture used a water soluble binder. Previous experience with this type of product had clean water by the third wash. This one continues to produce fines beyond the fifth wash.

I bought this because I wanted clear water that did not smell like a fish tank. I added to my pump (inside a netted bag). It really didn't clear up the water, so I pumped out half of the water and replaced it. Now the the tank is crystal clear. I suggest using this product after you've clean your tank. As for the fishy smell, well it is a fish tank. The smell is less but not gone.

Seems to work well, water is clean and fish, turtle and lizard are happy. nice size, fits in my canister filters without the use of a mesh bag and does not fall through the holes increasing water flow
