With the heavy duty spring inside the tube this is super easy to install and holds firmly in place — not sure why so many people are concerned about the contact between the pin and the handle bar tube — that contact of a straight pin and a round tube is so minimal that even if the paint comes off at this contact point it would hardly be noticeable — get over it people — at 1/2 the cost of more over engineered bars this was a great find — will buy another for my Wife’s bike — extends a little further than some other bars — can’t think of one reason this bar shouldn’t be the go to purchase for anyone needing an item like this

Definitely a wise purchase

This cross-bar adapter for a step-through bike frame was exactly the solution we needed - and bonus - was higher quality than we expected for the price. The telescoping tubes are strong, the clamps are secure, and the spring pressure is just right - strong enough to hold the bike firmly in place on the rack and yet smooth enough for easy installation and de-installation.

It can scratch your bike

It works great but you will have to put something where the pin is because they didn't think it out very well ,,there is no protection where the locking pin meets the bike.

good for transport

This helps me transport my wife's bike on the trailer hitch rack I have. It did scratch the finish on her bike frame.

works, but

i have a 'ladies bike', and after much research, and choosing a certain rack, turns out i needed this bar. no 'assembly required', it came out the box ready to clip-stretch-pin it to my bike's neck and below the seat, without much effort. so it does its job. i WILL note that it "could" potentially scratch the paint on your bike - because its metal on metal. and if the bike jostles when you drive your car over bumps, it could scratch. i personally didnt experience this BECAUSE i never really got to use it. turns out the rack i chose wouldnt allow me to park in my garage and close the garage door. so i needed a different (arm collapsing) rack. the new rack i went with - allowed me to mount my "lady" bike onto IT, without the need of his bar. so i'm sending the bar back. not because i could find anything wrong with it - its jut not needed with the new rack i chose.

Simple, inexpensive crosstube for bike rack mounting

I like this crosstube for bike rack mounting. It is ligh, sturdy, and less costly than others. It uses simpler technology for attaching the two ends. The tension spring is sufficient to keep it tight on seat post and handlebar stem. Others have complainted the bare steel pin that inserts into the U-shaped end of the crosstube will scratch or abrade the bike parts. It will at least rattle around. To remedy that issue I use a piece of 3/8” I.D. rubber tubing to insert the pin through. Any rubber tubing greater than 3/8” will work, too. In my case I had a length of discarded pneumatic air hose. A segment of garden hose will also do a decent job of protecting the bike where the ‘stirrup’ wraps around the bike.

Good for the price.

Pro: - Easy to install - Price is good - The hook side has a rubbery finish to protect scratch the bike Con: - On the pin side, the pin is bare steel. Totally stretch up bike finish. Which it has some kind of rubbery finish like on the hook end.

Sturdy and good looking

We used it 3x now on a heavy comfort bike and the spring tension seems ok so far. We even left the bar on the bike overnight and the spring still feels solid. I still recommend tying the bike on the rack just to be sure on heavy bikes. For those light aluminum or carbon bike, im sure this bar will carry those easy peasy. Also, when removing this bar from your bike, be very careful as it can pinch your fingers. That is why I gave it a 4 star. But overall, this is a good buy and would recommend it to anyone on a budget.

Cross bar for bike

This is easy to use for bikes that don't have a high or long frame such as kid's bike, cruisers, etc. Use this for my wife's bike as it doesn't have a high frame from handlebar to seat stem. Works perfectly to carry the bike on a hitch bike carrier. Keep in mind the specifications (how far it can extend, how heavy a bike can be, etc). It is spring loaded so when you extend, it pulls back ehci gives it the tension to hold the bike. Also make sure your handlebar stem is high enough to fit the hook.

Works as expected, built well

Bought this for my younger daughters bike as the other brand I had purchased last year was OOS. This involves a little bit of extra work to set up (only a few extra seconds) but the quality is great and we are very happy with this. Highly recommend based on price and quality.

We use this bar to put our jetson bolt ebike on our bike rack. The front of the bar was rising up to far and was laying against the wires under the steering wheel. We just put a short non stretch bungee cord between the bar and the curved top frame. The ebike only weighs 41 lbs so we were good to go. Good quality. I paid 33.34 tax included. The bike shops wanted $30.00 more.
