Durable and 90 degrees
Not much to say other than its the original and has a sharp 90 degree angle and if you know how to use one it makes carpentry and woodworking tasks much faster

Never had one before
I had read that you really need this if your going to build something. Boy was I ever glad that I ordered it. It is so easy for drawing your cut lines, and to my surprise, I could use it as a guide for my skill saw to get straight cuts, as I had a problem getting a straight cut otherwise. With it I built a 12x16 storage shed, and I honestly believe that it was this tool that made it possible for me to make things fit correctly. My tool box will not be without this tool, ever. IF I can help it, that is.

Great tool
I’m not framing houses, but this tools is very handy eitherway. Easy to measure and mark wood. I might buy the 4.5” next.

Unbeatable for framing work
This is not a replacement for an adjustable combination square and is not suitable for fine work, but for its intended use in framing work it is brilliant. The pencil notches for marking lines parallel to the edge of a board are very useful when ripping wood and the protractor feature is surprisingly usable (though again, not really for marking off 3.25 degrees!) The wide base makes this convenient for checking joints for plumb as it will stand on its own quite securely; this base also makes a really solid rest for when you want to mark a cutting line at 90 degrees - it hooks over the edge of a standard CLS 2x X timber perfectly and gives a far more positive result than a standard combination square (the full length of the side of the square being in contact with the timber really helps here too.) I have not yet used the square for the purpose for which I bought it (laying out rafters for my current project) but hope to do so soon - the accompanying "blue book" seems fairly comprehensive and I'm confident this square will make my life a lot easier when the time comes. Overall the square is well made from nice thick metal and very nicely finished. My only criticism would be that the black paint applied to the markings wasn't particularly thorough; as the markings themselves are deeply recessed into the metal there is no issue in practice. Edit: I have since used it to make rafters and very much more and it was excellent. Once you've figured out the desired roof pitch it's so simple to get every cut at the right angle - not just for rafters but things like barge boards, sheathing, lining, interior trim etc. Worth every penny.

Gotta have it
I remember 1st coming upon the Swanson Speed Square in the 1980’s when I worked as a carpenter’s helper in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Skilled tradesmen (they were all men then) all had one and I noticed how they used it for many different layout functions in framing: even just cutting a square end on a piece of dimensional lumber. Since then, it has become an indispensable part of my overwhelming collection of tools for the trade. A supervisor at a film studio texted me to let me know he was holding my Speed Square for whenever I returned to work there, which was months away. It would be so inconvenient getting there and arranging permission to enter the studio that I just ordered another from Amazon.ca. It’s that necessary. I’ve used other brands, and some are okay, but my experience suggests that some manufacturers can miss the notion that it is used in a particular environment: framing. On the one hand it demands a certain kind of accuracy. On the other, alacrity (speed). Once, when I used a plastic version as a guide to cut a square line with a construction knife, the blade cut the edge of square as well as the surface if we wood I was cutting: making it useless. That’s an extreme example, but the Swanson square always arrives ready to last in the environment it is used. The same cannot be said for the copy-cat brands. So after a variety of experiences, I just replace mine with the original and get on with it.

La vera "Speed Square"
Davvero fantastica la famosa "Speed Square" della Swanson. Realizzata in alluminio, robusta e leggera.

It's "the" speed square for a reason
This one is the classic speed square - everyone and their brother has a Swanson it seems. I replaced a cheaper one when this came on sale and am VERY happy with it. Very easy to read, incredibly strong and durable, and packed with all the features you could possibly fit onto a speed square. Who knew I'd be so happy "upgrading" something as simple as a speed square.
