Cut fast and was strong

Good tap, but not for deep holes

I ordered this tap because I needed to thread deep (6") into a wood hole. However, the shaft on this tap is about 21/64", just a hair larger than 5/16", so it is not good for the purpose I bought it. But it did seen well made and useful if you needed to reach a long distance. Just wanted to alert others that might want to use it for the wrong purpose as I did. I returned it with no problems. FYI

Perfect for Tapping an AR Bolt Release roll pin hole.

I don't like roll pins on AR lowers so I will use the appropriate tap drill and tap for the 6-32 pins that Aero Precision provides for their M4E1 lowers. This tap allows you to reach behind the rear lower for full rotation and better alignment. I've used it at least half a dozen times and still sharp; I use cutting lubricant even though it cuts aluminum like butter. I cut almost all the way and use the screw to swage the last thread or two for a tight fit.

Drill America = Made in China

The image shown is for the correctly designed American made tap. The American made version would allow you to make deeper tabs. The one that I received made in China and has a larger shaft diameter which prevents tapping deeper holes. McMaster here I come.

How To Fix This Incorrect 3/8"-16 Tap

The photo for this tap shows an undercut extended tap. But the tap you get is not undercut. Therefore this tap cannot tap any deeper than a standard length tap! I didn't have the time to return this incorrect tap so I decided to fix it. I put the tap in my drill press and turned it on. Then I took a a flap disk sander and ground the shank of this tap down to .300. It only took a minute or two. Now I can tap entirely thru a 2" long rod of 6061T6 aluminum.
