Very effective on a sassy spoiled poodle

I have a poodle pup that is far too rough on our senior pug. She isn't viciously attacking, just a constant biting of her ears, chewing her legs, belly and other soft spots and the pug is too old and arthritic to defend herself very well. She will stop for a minute with No! but then happily goes right back to it. She thinks it is a game of dare me. She's too little for any of the vibrating corrective collars and I don't believe in shock collars for most dogs, small dogs in particular. We got this today and have used it 3 times. This evening after a few hours use, and only the three corrections, the puppy is playing with her toys and playing very gently with her older sibling. After the 3rd use, she started looking my way when she wanted to jump on the pug and decided to go for a toy instead. There was no fear from either of the dogs using this device, only an immediate startled look with the pup stopping her bad behavior. But there doesn't seem to be any residual fear or nervousness like I've seen with other corrective devices. And I'm not yelling No every five minutes. I acknowledge that poodles are very intelligent dogs and she learns a lot faster on most tasks than other dogs so I don't know if my experience is typical. She was also already well aware her harassment behavior was unwanted, but also oblivious to other forms of correction and redirection we had tried. There are two reasons I don't give it 5 stars. One is that it can't target just one dog. The second and more important reason is that the physical construction of the device is very awkward. You literally have to take the thing apart with a screwdriver to put the battery in, and then it's a challenge to get the battery in and closed again. It could easily be broken just trying to get the battery changed. They should've gone with the normal sliding battery door. As far as general usage notes, I think this is a device best used by people with at least some concept of dog training methods as it could be misused. Definitely it should be used by adults only.

A Useful Tool

This product does work on my dog. However the "positive tone" that is provided for positive reinforcement is NOT positive to her! She is really disturbed by it, so I don't use that as the signal for "good job". I only use the negative ultrasonic tone, just as she starts to bark unnecessarily at neighbors passing our door, or harmless street noise. I press the negative tone and say "Quiet" simultaneously. She doesn't like the tone much, it gets her attention, she stops barking and I then praise her, pet her, and sometimes give a snack. She now is beginning to associate my "Quiet" command with the tone, so she will often stop barking just with the command (which is my goal). You need to be very consistent, and use it for all the instances of unwanted barking in the house if possible. I have taken to carrying the Remote Trainer device around with me at home, so that at the first sign of unwanted barking, I use the tone and the command. It has taken me a week or so to get used to doing this, but I see it is starting to work on curbing her barking. I do limit my usage to just a quick pulse of the tone, as I can tell she doesn't like it, and I hope it is not too painful for her. Soon I hope, with diligence on my part, she will be trained enough that I don't have to use it at all. (FYI, this is a tool for in your house only! you can't use it on walks, you will be "punishing" the other dogs nearby, and perhaps training your dog to fear approaching dogs or worse. My dog does bark at other dogs when on the leash, learning the "Quiet" command at home might help, but not sure it will!)

Great tool for solving my excessive barking recent rescue!

Works every time. Dogs head tilts everso slightly when using, so I know he is getting the signal! Love it! I've had this Minnie Schnauzer rescue for about 4 months now and he has had severe fear barking problems. Even at the drive-thru fast food establishments upon hearing a loud voice over the loudspeaker. So much so, I could not give my order. Also when new dogs are walking by with their Owners, he would go berserk, while looking out the front storm door. Crazy thing is he is so attached to me since the first day he stepped into the house. He is my 5th Minnie Schnauzer and they are barkers, but never like my Charlie. The thing is he is the most affectionate one of the 5. He adores me, maybe because I give him so much love and physical touch. I think, in time, with the help of this Pet Safe Bark Control, he will learn. Actually sometimes when he sees it in my hand, he does not bark. This gadget has been a life-saver for our bonding process too because it was making me very nervous having to deal with what appeared to be a vicious dog to my neighbors, (one of whom passes with his two dogs every morning) of which named him "Juvie" in the beginning. Now he reaches his hand over the fence, pets him on his head and says, "Hey, Buddy"! There is hope, so don't give up on your 'loudmouth' pooch, I highly recommend this product!

It works, but......

This really worked for my very smart 1 yo border collie. She took to barking a lot when in our 6ft block fenced backyard. Used this twice and she has been quiet since. She would also be bothersome if we ate on the sofa. Used once and now no issues. Used same commands of 'no bark' and 'get down' along w treat when she stopped behavior with 'good girl no bark' and 'good girl get down'. Also of note I had returned a cheaper brand from China that did not work. Quality on this brand is worth the extra cost. BUT..... I was bragging to my son how well it worked, he looked into ultrasound training devices and found it works as negative reinforcement. Many studies showing this does not work and positive reinforcement is the way to go. It may also hurt the dogs ears in a way that makes them anxious. I don't want her sweet disposition to change and certainly do not want to hurt her. Yes, it was easier to point this at her and have her stop. Without it will take longer to train her to stop barking and involves more interaction from me. In the long run, she will be better for it.

Brilliant bit of kit. Dog would not come in doors when called. I used the petsave negative beep as instructions, using the positive beep and a treat when he came in. Now he comes into the house on one short positive shot. What is better he now comes in doors on a quick name call. Well worth the money. I had tried everything. RESULT'''''''

I got this when on offer at £20 so good value at that. Used for stepsons dogs excessive barking(we look after him couple times a week) pointed it at him pressed negative button and said quiet at same time. Stopped barking straight away, had to do that twice now only have to pick up device and say quiet without pressing button. My own two dogs hate it so try not to use it when they are in room

Didn't work

Although my dog clearly heard it as his ears were doing the old radar, it did not distract him or cause any level of discomfort, item returned for a refund

Adverseley affected other dogs

We tried this for one of our cocker spaniels. Even on the positive setting she just ran away making it impossible to reinforce the positive. Our other cocker spaniel was obviously in range and he was so traumatised it took ages to calm him down. Definitely not for us and I am seeking a refund.
