This is difficult, Frustrating, you need patience, constant research.
**(11/20) update: After an issue with crystals and 3K later, I learned cats need wet food often to get moisture intake so no more dry food with wet food as the treat for going on the toilet. I did ask both vets to make sure it wasn't the toilet training that caused him the stress/blockage and both said it did not. He went back to litter box after the unblocking of the urethra and after two months, I started him again on the LK system. I would move him to the next step daily; quickly moving from red for 24 hours, then first orange for 24 hours then second orange for 24 hours, to first green for a week, second green for two weeks, the toilet seat is down over this last green to get him used to the slippery seat again and hardly any litter in tray. I am worried about his super furry feet.... Good thing is, I know he can easily and quickly relearn the system and since the system is quality, it can be reused; so when we move or anything, we have a way to go back and retrain. He will meow at me obnoxiously and I put him in the bathroom, lights off and then he will go - At night, he does it himself and most days I do not get the constant meow and me having to put him in the bathroom. There is still a bit of hesitation from him about using the toilet and he would prefer to use the garden. However, he gets extra wet food for using the toilet, so it is still motivating. This is still one of the biggest pains in the a....I have ever dealt with, but we will succeed. I will point out, that if we are clear of all LK pieces next month- it will be a full year of working on this. *Clean the toilet at least weekly to get off any smells they may not like. Good luck! We are still working on it, the forums are difficult to find let alone get help from them, these Amazon reviews have been most helpful. We began Dec (its March 21). Tips I unfortunately learned after I should have are- find a flush-able litter they like and make sure that litter has a backup in case your litter becomes out of stock :( during training. Find very special treats for their #1 and #2's. I ordered two books on cat toilet training as the DVD never worked and the forums are not very helpful. Order the multi cat system. There will be accidents, try not to loose it. I did rush him and had to start over, many, many, many times. Red- easy, it's a small litter box, on the floor, put a towel under if unstable, moving up to toilet easy (we had a small step stool for ease), moved to amber ring - #2 (poo) on floor, would go #1 in tray but always #2 on bathroom floor. Ordered multi cat system, had to go back to red, this time I stayed on red for a full month. Moved to amber multi, hesitation but worked, had a hotel stay and took him with the system, he actually did it there also #1 and #2, but ran out of litter and could not find his litter anywhere, the new litter was very different texture and he held everything for 3 days and in those days reverted to smaller amber ring, no go, reverted to red ring, no go, reverted to red on floor- no go. I finally found litter similar to the old kind, put in the new litter (similar to old, out of stock litter) had to revert back to red on the floor - no go! I was terrified for his health, ran to my closet, grabbed a shoe box and put the litter from red into tiny shoe box and he immediately went. Starting over for the third or fourth time with red on floor. We are on multi amber for the third time, I tried the cardboard, it did not help, he constantly pees on one foot, three feet are on the ring but one is always in the litter and thus wet, tracking and gross to him and myself. I put the toilet seat down over the kit and we will see if this will help... When moving discs, I did not feed him his wet food until he #2 in the disc, after a few times of doing well at this I give him his normal wet food of 2/3 cans day, but any transition to new discs will be no wet food until he goes in the right spot. Accidents, poo on the floor was always an issue, I did finally move his food dishes into bathroom and to take up space on bathroom floor. This did help, I just moved it out after a month to the hallway so he is not having to smell bad stuff when he eats. I never knew he pee'd outside the disc, until on day I found the spot, where he had been secret peeing..... I put objects over the spot now and the few times poo has been left outside the disc and or bathroom, I show him, say no and again withhold his wet food until he goes in the correct disc. Discs- I clean with plastic spoon and fork, I also bought a splatter shield from the dollar store to filter out the good and bad litter at least one a day, into a bowl for re-use as the flush-able litter is expensive. I use cleaning gloves and wash the disc itself once every few days, but did not need to clean it after every use as he showed me he will use it dirty when the red disc was on the floor. My issue is him going over the hole, he is a large Siberian forest cat, 9 months old and about 12 pounds we started this when he was 5.5 months old after neutering. I have ordered special treats for #1 and #2 that are different to motivate him, fish flakes or sticks that he only gets after the right release. I have had to close doors when transitioning discs to prevent accidents and or confusion. After I found the pee on carpet (secret spot), I told him No and cleaned it, then he went to the tray and #1- so he gets it, but after the litter mix up- I think it really confused him. It's okay to start over or go back... it's annoying as the owner but I am sticking to this. It is difficult to do this if you are not constantly home to clean the tray. We are all in lock-down now due to corvid-19, so I am taking more time to train him, I am hopeful that by the end of this he will be fully toilet trained. We have a bathroom to dedicate to him thankfully, it is messy with litter on floor and pee foot prints to clean up, but it can be done. I am not sure if he is just a baby still b/c of his breed, or slow to learn, but it is taking much longer than two months. I will update if I remember or have more information to share.

Some cats get it quicker than others...
I have 2 cats and a dog. No matter how I booby trapped or hid the litter box, the lab will get into it. He finally progressed to the point where he just flips the litter box over to get into it making more of a mess to clean up. I got tired of it and started looking for alternatives. I decided to give this system a try. First impression - decently well built and easy to use. Although, it tends to leak where the inserts fit into the white tray. How it is supposed to work: Instructions are simple enough. Start with the red tray inserted into the white "seat" on the floor near the toilet. When the cat is comfortable using it regularly, advance to installing it on the toilet. When the cat is comfortable at that level, change out the red insert to the orange insert. Then to the green insert. Finally you should be able to remove the insert all together and kitty uses the toilet. Actual usage: The instructions don't really tell you how to manage using your litter in the inserts. I found a "safe to flush" clumping litter, but it is incredibly messy. I have two cats, the inserts are very small and my cats are very big (one is a ragdoll mix). I was having to scoop the messes several times a day, otherwise it would fill up quickly and nobody would use it again. The design makes it very awkward to scoop the litter out of the inserts. The inserts are very rounded, while most scoops are designed for square boxes. The inserts have these ridges in them that end up collecting the litter and urine, making it even more difficult to scoop. Plus, the "safe to flush" litter doesn't clump very well, so in the red insert phase - it was just plain messy to deal with. I basically have to empty the entire thing into the trash, then scrub clean in the sink, dry and then re-insert. Things got better when I progressed to the orange stage, as I could just kind of "fling" the mess into the toilet and flush, but that was still way more litter to put down the system than I actually wanted to. Plus the ridges are still present and the surface area to use the scooper is smaller, which means I still have to remove and scrub clean daily. Overall, the system does work as long as you are patient and have time to devote in the beginning to keeping it cleaned up. My issues with it came from being inpatient and having a less than intelligent cat. Let me explain: I started this system about 6 weeks before I went on vacation. I was attempting to make it easier for the house sitter while I was gone. I moved through the phases too quickly for my one cat. ALWAYS MOVE AT THE PACE OF THE SLOWEST CAT! My one very intelligent little boy had the system mastered and was ready to use the toilet after the 6 weeks. I saw him numerous times actually using the toilet successfully and caught him once in my bathroom using my toilet. Yes, it does work. However, his brother wasn't blessed with the same intelligence and was struggling on even the first stage of the system. He is my ragdoll mix and apparently potty training him is like potty training a real boy. He knows he is supposed to go into the tray, he gets into position, then pees over the edge on to the floor... I can't fault him, he is "sitting" in the litter box and he looks so proud of himself when he's done... I have had to go back to the first stage twice now to try and get my slow boy to figure it out. I have tried the tips and tricks given in the instructions - sprinkled catnip around the seat - he just sat in the box and played with the catnip... I tried giving him treats whenever he was in the potty - but then he started to just sit in the potty and run to me for treats without doing anything... The other boy is obviously frustrated with this whole starting over again bit, hence why he used my bathroom (so proud of him). I have faith that this will eventually work, it really does just require a lot of patience and time dedication in the beginning. So, I am now on to phase 2 (red insert on top of the toilet) for the second time. It's been 2 days since moving to this phase and so far, no accidents from the special boy. I think the key to phase 1 and 2 is to keep the inserts super clean and ready at all times. I have to clean it before I go to work, when I get home, and again before bed. I am hoping he starts to get the hang of it, because he this is frustrating for both myself and his brother. . . UPDATE: We have successfully moved to the orange stage with no major accidents. I witnessed my slow kitty using the system correctly today. I made a few adjustments to help aide him in the process. First, I placed a step stool next to the toilet for him to use until he is more comfortable jumping up there - I am not sure why that would be an issue since he clearly has no problem stretching himself out tall enough to open doors and jump on countertops, but I was willing to try anything to help. Second, I also started only putting litter in the upper half of the tray, to try and encourage him to aim more towards the back instead of the front. This seems to have helped the most. I hope the progress continues. Update 2: Successful transition to the green insert about 2 weeks ago. My two cats have had no accidents and I'm about ready to remove the green insert. My boys are toilet trained!!!

The media could not be loaded.

It works like a charm
The media could not be loaded. I was sick of cleaning out the litter tray and all the money spent on litter, it got to a point where I would have to clean it to after every wee. I researched the cat toilet training videos and thought that was what I needed. I thought it was worth a go. Ordered the Litter Kwitter, which came when it said it would. I followed the instruction and put in on the floor with the red insert and litter in it, and he weed in it. I did that for a day or so, then I popped it on the toilet, put the cat up there and he went no problem, he now has progressed to the orange one and we have had only 1 poop in it. I no longer have to buy litter, although i do still put it in the orange insert at the moment. I was worried about the litter going into the toilet, but he hasn't really scratched into the toilet. So far its looking good.

Excellent if you are patient & flexible
It's been almost 6 months now and my 5 year old cat took to this instantly; perhaps it helped that we've always kept his litter tray next to the loo anyway? No problems at all with the red or orange phases, however we are stuck on the green phase ; everytime we start to reduce the litter he dumps on the floor, although still pees on the toilet. So we've decided to just stop where we are rather than stress him & ourselves. It uses far less litter this way anyway and all litter fallout goes down the loo rather than over the floor to get trapped between your toes in the night, plus our dog can no longer "turd burgle" after the event so it's still a much better arrangement. It's our choice not to push this to the end so I haven't removed a star for that, but because of the lack of information and support when you get stuck. The chat forums don't seem to have been used for years and the only advice I got was to create my own cardboard "in between " ring which laughably defeats the object of buying the kit!

Aufwand lohnt sich!
The media could not be loaded.
