New Litter Genie owner and loving it!

As a senior citizen, I didn't want to have to do a lot of knot tying, or fiddling with the bags and this seemed like a better solution for me than the original Litter Genie model as my first time using one of these. I also like the look better. After about a month, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Initially, I used the Genie only for poo, as both kittens were using pine pellets in Tidy Cat Breeze boxes, so there were no pee clumps, a solution *I* liked very much! However, it became clear that one kitten did not *like* using the pine pellets, was holding his pee longer than he should, and to avoid urinary tract issues, I am now using non-clay clumping litter. So the bags are filling faster now, but it looks like we will use about a bag per week for two 10-month-old boy kittens of about 10 pounds each. Better than what the manufacturer describes! This may change as they develop their full growth and I expect it to, but if we use 2 bags per week, cost would remain reasonable for us and this is so much less unsightly than my previous 4 gallon OPEN wastebasket lined with regular trash bags. The set up is easy, though you must be careful to be sure your plastic bag is well held by the plastic hooks. I usually double-over the edge slightly and make sure all 4 hooks are fully engaged. I've not had any trouble with the bag becoming loose and falling off the hooks as it gets full. To gauge how full, you look down in the bag with the odor trap slider door opened, so at that time, it's possible odor might escape, but it's not been an issue for me with a quick peek here and there. You DON'T want to overfill, as that could prevent the odor control sliding trap from closing. Overfilling will also make it difficult to tie the bag off. So STOP filling when the level of litter is starting to approach, but is not yet AT the level of the odor trap slider! Removing the full bag is easy, just lift the top of the Genie, unhook the bag from the plastic hooks, twist it closed, tie it off, gently pull it up, separate the used bag at the perforation. Dispose of used bag, then hook your fresh bag to the plastic hooks, close it all up and ready to go! I think it is a good idea to open up the new bag by putting your hand inside and making sure it is all open and intact. That way the litter can drop in easy. I've had no odors, no problems, the unit feels sturdy and is not very likely to be knocked over by boisterous kittens (whom, just yesterday, brought down my full, 13 gallon kitchen trashcan). It looks nice. Is it perfect? Close, but not quite. I would like to see a pail style handle. There IS a molded handle at the back that you can grab the unit by to move it, but it is NOT well-balanced once the unit gets weighed down by litter! A pail style and hopefully METAL handle would make moving the Genie between litter boxes much easier. And that's why I docked a star. P.S. Just did third bag change, all continues to go smoothly. Am ordering another for upstairs use.

Eases the pain of having to give up on Litter Robot!

As my 16 pound ragdoll got bigger and older she stopped using the Litter Robot that had worked so well for 3 years. I finally gave up and decided to go back to a regular pan. We had an original Litter Genie years ago and I was happy to see they had updated it! We’ve had the new system in place a week and I am shocked that I prefer the pan, scoop and Litter Genie to the Litter Robot! The Robot was great until it was time to change the liner or clean it. Both were unpleasant chores. The Litter Genie’s improved version is great and lots less hassle than changing the Robot’s liner PLUS it doesn’t have to be cleaned! I have only one dislike: you have to push a button and pull the lid up with your hand. I wish there was some way to step on a lever and have the lid pop up to make it hands free. I have found a work around though. I bought a long handled beach sand scooper that has a steel scoop with a thin edge. I put tape over the hole where the lid tab inserts. Now the lid is slightly open enough that I can insert the edge of the scoop into the crack and pop the lid. I know the lid is supposed to seal for maximum odor control but we have not noticed any odor at all since I modified it slightly. Thanks, Litter Genie, for making the transition back to manual scooping a breeze!

Good upgrade

Bought to replace an original Litter Genie with the continuous bag. My cutter was not sharp anymore and needed a new refill so got this replacement instead. Glad I did! The perforated bags are so simple and overall more solid than my original 10+ year old original Litter Genie. I have one cat and everything stays contained and the bag lasts about 2 weeks.

It has to be done...

Found this item recommended when researching ways to eliminate cat odor. Easy to use: lift the lid, add the scooped litter, close lid, open & close tray. Everything falls into the pail and odor is contained. Even with the lid open you don't smell the contents - unlike using a plastic bag of some sort. I'm happy, cat is happy. Who could ask for anything more?

Effective and Reasonably Priced!

I’m in a complex where there are no near by garbage cans which made discarding any litter and contents pretty inconvenient. The Genie really just made life easier with my kitten, helped really get rid of any smell, especially since I would have a few days before I needed to dump it. Worth it buy for those who want to make taken care of kitten/cat clean up easier.

The best!

This works great. We have one cat and change the bag weekly. Love that this uses a roll of bags and therefore less cost and plastic waste than the other models. Don’t be dissuaded by folks saying it’s hard to pull the bag over the hooks. Just do it carefully and it’s easy. Love this product!

Big improvement over the original

This is a great item. Much more space and the bags are easier simce you do not need to mess with tieing them. Only complaint, the system for holding the bag doesn't always work well. Needs a double clamp. Still great product.

Vast improvement

I’ve tried 2 sizes of Litter Genie, along with Canadian clone Litter Locker. This new easy roll is so much better! It’s neat and tidy and doesn’t have the very annoying springs which almost immediately popped off all the others. It takes a few minutes to get used to the odd way the roll of bags hangs, but it’s smooth sailing after that. I highly recommend it.
