Bought after reading various reviews on Amazon
I like buying this type of item based on various reviews. This item seemed to have decent reviews. Upon receiving it, I read over the instructions which were average at best. The instructions definitely could've been better, but, that's not really my complaint here - I figured it out and got it installed with no problem. The problem is the locking mechanism has two threaded pins (pictured) that both contain an internal sprint. When you close the gate, the pin depresses and the spring pops it back out when it enters the gate lock. However, these pins are very cheap and the internal spring mechanism broken on one of my pins. The pin in the top of the phtoto has the spring showing in the rear end of the pin - this one is now useless. If the same thing happens to the other pin, the entire gate is trash (as it is now, only half of the gate can lock closed - probably a danger for my 14 mo old). In addition to this, my now 14 mo old (at the time just over 12 mo) used to like to grab the vertical bars and shake the gate when closed. Somehow, a 12 mo old baby was able to shake this gate so hard that the vertical pipe broke right off the gate. Now remember, this product is labeled "baby gate" - it should be several times stronger than the strongest known baby. My baby definitely is no powerhouse. I am writing this review just under 4 months from the time I purchased this gate. Any way you look at it, this is clearly unsatisfactory and cheaply made product. Luckily for me I wasn't blocking a stairwell or other extremely dangerous path for an infant, otherwise the consequences could've been incredibly serious.

Not too easy to install
I installed this myself. It was a tad confusing at first especially when reading the manual. Even YouTube it and can’t find anything so I just went ahead and used common sense and I got it on pretty fast. I had to use a stud finder so I can screw it on securely. And poked a couple holes just so the locking side would align. Overall I’m happy. Now it gives me a peace of mind that my baby can’t get on the stairs unsupervised. Only complaints is that it’s loud and you have to push the metal Thing manually to close it. It’s not super sturdy but it’ll do. I will never leave her alone around it still.

An Ok product.
It does the job but It’s not a single hand To open and close as per claimed in the descriptions, it also says this one is 23”-48”. Ours were 48” and it was short. We made it work by instead of following the safety instruction of 2 bars to clip for safety (you’d know when you get one), we only managed to do 1 bar to clip. We received a slightly rust stained one per picture I uploaded but I don't want to go through trouble of returning and asking for new one, I just wish quality check was done before delivery and that they should be more accurate by saying it’s only 23”-46” wide for safety.

Hard to open
Gate is hard to open with one hand. You really need two hands. It pinches my fingers every time. Using this gate to secure an elderly woman. Glad it’s not for a toddler because I need two hands to open it. I would have to set the child down every time

Latch doesn't always work properly.
This is one of several baby gates we've bought for our pets over the years. The gate itself and hinges are of good quality. Swings easily. But the latching mechanism is not very good. You have to push down on the button while pushing the gate into the mechanism and it's difficult to get it in the right place. The other two swinging gates we currently have you can just swing the gate shut and it will latch on its own, but not this one. Sometimes I even manage to get the rod from the gate on the wrong side of the latch (I'm never sure how this happens) and then it's not easy to get it back on the correct side. We'll make do for the time being, but I wouldn't purchase another because of the latch problems.

Seems sturdy
I ended up returning this because the bottom attachment points ended up interfering with the baseboard. If they had been an inch or two higher, we probably would have kept it, but I didn't want to have to cut my baseboard to ensure a secure door fit. Otherwise, the hardware looked like it was sturdy.

Buena compra
Compramos la puerta con dudas por los comentarios que vimos pero el día que llegó mi esposo lo instaló y no tuvo problemas. Tenemos otra puertita northstates para mi gusto está es un poco más complicado el sistema de cierre pero es de buena calidad y cumple su función.

Se nos dificultó la instalación ya que las medidas de los patrones son un poco confusas. Una de las tuercas se barrió y ya no se pudo instalar correctamente.
