Simple way to keep the bugs away

I throw this hoodie (and there are other colors) on over a shirt when hiking or dog walking during mosquito season. Definitely works to keep the bites down. On particularly buggy days, the hood is really helpful. Looks aren't really the point for me, but it looks quite decent (keep in mind this is a mesh-like fabric, so it's very sheer). Useful front pocket is good for dog walks -- but not for heavy things (fabric quite stretchy). This product runs big -- if you usually take a large, you probably should go for a medium.

LOVE this shirt (and YES it works!)

Love this shirt, I own 2 in black and 1 in white. The bugs don't bother me when I wear it. Perfect lightweight weave that can be worn as an outer protective layer against bugs even on warm summer days without feeling too hot. I've also worn it in cooler weather for a layering piece and it's worked well. You can't wear it without a tshirt or tank under it, since it's a loose weave (zoom in on the Amazon photo and you can sort of see). i.e. if I wear a pink tank under it, you can definitely see the pink through the white or the black versions. Fit is as expected - I am 5'7" and 155lbs, pear-shaped. I usually wear an 8/10 in tops or a Medium in most brands. The medium fits well, not too tight, but fitted enough that it doesn't look sloppy. And it's stretchy so even though I have curvy hips, it doesn't tug over the hips. Side note, I have several items with Permethrin (both Exofficio and Columbia, as well as items I've done the DIY permethrin treatments on), and it really works. IMO, the garments that come with the treatment already on (like Exofficio Bugs Away) work a lot better than the DIY options where you spray your own clothes, probably because the permethrin is more evenly distributed on the garment. Used to be that all of the "Bugs Away" clothes had zero fashion, but that is NOT the case with this shirt, it's very fashionable and well cut. I've found myself reaching for it several times when I'm not out camping or outdoors, etc, just because it fits well and it's SO comfortable. BUT the treatment only works for so many washings (they claim 70) so I try to "save" it for when I'm out with the bugs. I've done maybe 10 washings so far on each and the anti-bug properties are still working just as well as when it was brand new. In summary - if you're considering it, buy it! Can't go wrong.

Good bug repellent garment

Fit as expected, color is true to image. Bug repellancy is pretty decent. I am a bug magnet and get welts from May fly bites, and mosquitoes love to drink my blood until anemia sets in. I have to say I have not been bitten yet while wearing this hoodie, along with ExOfficio pants I purchased. I live in a very rural area with more mosquitoes than most, and walk my dogs every day in the woods. Every single year I have lived here (over 20 years) I get bitten by a tick or two. I have not gotten bit yet but I attribute that more to the pants. The shirt is comfy and soft, fits well (I am 5'6" and 115 lbs, bought the X-small) and I like that it is airy enough to wear in warm weather with a tank top underneath. I have used it for two months and it does tend to stretch out a bit but still looks ok. The front pocket will stretch with anything heavier than a credit card in it so bear that in mind if you'd like to carry keys, phone, etc. I feel it was a worthwhile purchase and will buy another when it wears out as it beats pouring toxic bug spray on my skin. The reason for four stars is that I believe it will wear out before my 70 washes as it already has become a bit limp/misshapen after a few washes.

Multi purpose shirt!

I am usually a small in tops but can get away with an xs every now and then so the price difference between the two made me go xs. So glad I did because it's amply sized. A small would have been too large. I'm 5-3 125, 34 D, and float between 2 - 4. I took the shirt on a backpacking trip that floated between tropical jungle to summit winds. As many others have stated, it's not a normal hoody since it's pretty mesh, albeit a heavy mesh. I used it in many ways on just this small adventure. After all the hiking to get up, I hung up all my soaked through clothes and threw this on. It breathes and adds some warmth so I could dry out without freezing. As I dried and got colder from wind, put a light underwear shirt underneath and it was perfect. On the return, the bugs were bad so I wore it over my sports bra. It was good with bugs, a good sun protector, and full comfort for my pack straps. At lower elevations the bugs came out and while they lingered they didn't land. I was more happy that my soaking was not so severe. I know I will have to retreat this eventually but I'm far more happy that this will be a breathable, quick dry, extremely comfortable, protective garment for the long term.

Usually take a medium but bought this years ago in a small — medium only available now but still a great travel piece if you get eating by bugs. Medium is clearly big but fine if you like roomy which I do

Great for walking safari.

I bought this to wear on a walking safari so I wouldn't get eaten alive by mosquitos or tsetse flies, or over heat. It is a soft, thin, lightweight mesh. It also has some stretch and thus is likely to fit more figures. Perfect for layering but might be too see-through for some tastes to wear without a shirt underneath. It also has clever holds on the end of the sleeve for your thumb to help protect part of your hand. It turned out since we were there during the dry season, the bugs weren't that bad. However, I did get bit by one tsetse fly when I wasn't wearing this. I still wore sunscreen under this top but it did provide some relief from the sun beating directly on the skin while the mesh allowed the breeze to cool (some). I am also sensitive to scents and did not detect any strong scent from whatever chemicals they used for the bugsaway feature. It is also possible to get unscented spray permetherin (try Coleman Company) to spray clothes to get similar bug repellent feature that will last through a few washes. Not sure what chemicals are on this top, I only washed it with the other anti bug items that we used for the trip.
