just takes awhile to get used to the set up
Using this item in a Attic w/ 8/12 pitch was hard to find correct location to mount a dewalt laser For dependable sturdiness. But it works! , I’ll get used to it

Nicely made
I was looking at the Bosch and this one. The Bosch almost won because the Dewault pole didn't have any reviews yet. I decided to give the Dewault a shot because buying with the laser gave 25% off accessories including this pole. I also bought the Dewault tripod. That one is a bit questionable. That will be another review. I received it two days ago and I put it together to see the build quality and the design. So far, I like it. It is nicely made for the most part. It is very easy to set up. It is made of aluminum. You start by screwing the base extender section to your first section. From there you add sections as needed for the height you will be working with. All of the poles have some graduation marks and when you screw them together they made sure they all stayed inline. A bit of forward thinking here. Then you top it of with the round piece that contacts the ceiling. With the base retracted all of the way, the pole should fit close to the ceiling. From here I lean it to the side a little and slide out the base extender. It has audible clicks as you extend it out. Once you are just past the point where it will no longer fit between the ceiling and the floor, you can use the flip down foot pedal to compress the internal spring and line it up where you want it and release it until it contacts the ceiling. I find I don't need the pedal but it is there if you need it. I just grip the pole and pull down and at the same time line it up while watching the built in 360 degree level bubble. Pretty easy. I believe if you feel the need to use the foot pedal, you are extended too far and you may damage a drywall ceiling. The one I recieved has each pole section half yellow and half black unlike what I see in the picture. This bright color contrast should be good at helping you and others see the pole at a glance so you don't crash into it. Also mine has a button down on the bottom that releases the extension tube via grooves. You can see it in the pictures I posted. Something I will be watching though is the fact that the button that locks into the grooves. If I designed it, I may have made the grooves just a bit deeper. As it is though I don't believe there will be a problem. It appears the one in the picture has a compression fitting that you turn to lock it. Similiar to the way a camera tripod works. I am pretty sure the model I have is a much better idea. I think they changed their plan very early on. All in all it seems very stable. Everywhere you screw it together there is no slop. There is a slight bit down at the bottom where the extender slides out but it is not a problem for me. I am pretty picky guy when it comes to these things but this is acceptable. You may be able to put more pressure on your pole and eliminate this but I wasn't damaging my ceiling. Summed up- I like it. Although I have not used it on the job yet and of course time is another thing, I believe it will do its job just fine. I would not call it super heavy duty but it is designed for something relatively delicate so if you damage this thing you are probably damaging your laser too. So I would treat it accordingly. It also comes with a bag. They really should update the picture because, as I said, the one I recieved is quite different from what you see. For the better though, I believe. The pictures I posted only show the base and one more section with the top cap put on. There are 3 more sections. 2 longs and 1 short. I am a contractor of 30 years if this means anything to you.

Problem Solved and Laser Goes Much Higher Now
After receiving the reshipment with all the pieces parts, I've tried this product out and it fits the need and works exceptionally well. The poles screw together (basically you put as many in as needed to get close to filling the height of where you are working) and the holding platform slips onto the poles and slides up and down relatively easily, until you tighten the holding screw (big plastic knob). The ratcheting extension on the bottom takes up most of the rest of the space and the spring-foot on the bottom does the rest. The platform has a bubble level to allow you to get the pole arbitrarily close to vertical, which helps (even with self-leveling instruments). The laser level attaches to the 1/4-inch screw on the platform, and the screw is turned with a large wheel knob that is easy to deal with. If there is remaining slack, that can be taken out with a nut on the bottom of the platform screw; hand-tightening seems sufficient. This now allows me to easily set the laser level much higher than the tripod would allow, so it's truly a winner. The poles go into the main part of the canvas case and the platform and the ceiling puck you screw into the top pole go into a pouch on the side of the case. Add some rose-colored glasses and you're good to go. (I haven't tried this unit on a popcorn ceiling yet, but the ceiling puck is fairly large so maybe it won't make the same impression a pole-lamp would.) ADDITIONAL INFO: I did try the unit on a popcorn ceiling and it seemed to have no bad effect. Also, it appears that the ratcheting extension I mentioned is a relatively new modification which actually makes setup quicker and surer, though the instructions included were for the older, twisting lock mechanism. Definitely a good way to get the laser higher easily.

Try a different model
This product is loght weight. The design is sort of poor. The height adjustable section is located at the bottom, making set-up cumbersome. After setting up the unit for the fourth time, my lower section seized to the one above it. When I twisted them loose (by hand) the stud snapped off and I'd lodged into the lower section. Very soft aluminum. Basically useless now. Save your money, buy a different model.

One of my most useful tools. Tile setter by trade.
TLDR; Must buy for anyone using and laser level. I'm a tile setter by trade and this is by far one of my most useful tools. When you need to make sure your lines are perfect all the way around the room so everything matches up right, this pole makes it so easy. Completely takes the headache out it. I use it for every shower I tile. And for more complicated bathrooms with floor to ceiling tile it would nearly be impossible without it at this point. Only minor downside is that when adjusting the level arm down it can sometimes loosen the pole which will require you to reset it. But its a minor inconvenience. All in all a great buy.

Expensive - but well made and very functional.
Seems expensive for what it is but it's one of the few times I've received an item and was surprised at how well it was built. I decided to get this after needing to prop my tripod on top of chairs etc. to get the laser level up to the height I needed. This pole will definitely make my life easier, and will be easier to fit into tight spaces. I have a small bathroom reno coming up and this will allow me to set up my laser level in the corner and provide guidelines for tiling the wall. The mount slides up and down (nearly) the full length of the pole, except for the very bottom where adjustment portion is. I think another reviewer mentioned mounting the pole upside down to get all the way down, which was pretty clever. All of the actual pole components are made of metal (including threads) and the actual laser level mount is made of a robust feeling plastic holder. It all comes in a reasonable nice (a tad cheap feeling) nylon case with zipper compartments. This should last quite a wile I'd imagine.

Great for leveling something over 5 feet
A tripod is great up until maybe 5 feet, but beyond that you have to start stacking things under it to lift it up, which is not easy since the tripod has a wide base. I was quite limited when all I had was a tripod. Enter this mounting pole! It easily goes up to around 10 feet, and you can adjust your level anywhere along the pole. Since it's a vertical pole, it has a minimal footprint compared to a tripod. It's sturdy and well built. I use this extensively in my house for misc reno projects and it does jobs that a tripod never could. When you're done, it collapses nicely into a small storage bag. My only complaint is that the height adjustment (on the bottom section) can let go when you're stepping on the footpad to temporarily compress the pole to set it in place. It's not a big deal - just reset the adjustable height and try again. Maybe a locking mechanism would work better than a twist compression method to adjust the height of the bottom section.

Don’t waste your money.
This product lasted a total of about 15 minutes before the cheap plastic hardware completely gave out. 95% of this thing is built out of really good quality aluminium, but the 5% that is plastic ruins the entire thing. And that’s the part that is essential to use the product. I am very disappointed in this purchase.
