Great Small Grinder

I carry this in my lunch box for fresh ground pepper, and the bottom cover stops any mess and keeps the peppercorns fresh.

Replacement for a decade old one

I ordered one to replace the one I had for a decade that got misplaced at a picnic. I’ve use one of these in my kitchen forever. Yeah it’s small capacity but the ceramic grinders are great and I don’t feel like I’m ingesting metal with like I imagine with cheap pot metal grinders. I’d recommend this for anyone who wants fresh pepper or salt grinder on the go or in their kitchen.

Full-featured, Fabulously Functional & Priced Right

Well designed, well made, fabulously functional, full-featured and priced right. I guess I'd have to say I'm tickled to death with this product. I've always been fond of the innovation and quality offered by GSI Outdoors, and this product only increases my admiration. It's the perfect partner for the picnic kit I purchased for my wife last year and we look forward to many happy grinds of fresh black pepper from it. And I think we'll be using it for a long, long time. Design and construction are both thoughtful and robust. Build quality is excellent and the grinder itself is sleek and attractive. More importantly, of course, it works and works well. For such a compact unit, features are impressive: you can adjust the grind to your liking easily and efficiently and a good, tight cover on the base means you won't be leaking ground pepper wherever you place or store it. The grinding mechanism itself is quite good and appears to be stainless steel. And this unit has an answer to a gripe I have with some very nice French peppermills--the central stem (the one to which you affix the top of the mill)--is firmly rooted in place. This makes for much more convenient filling than having to fiddle with a central stem that wobbles about while filling and may not be properly aligned after filling. Well done, indeed. Do note that to adjust the grind, you'll need something like a knife or even a screwdriver to work the slotted grinder top. I don't find this a flaw, as it keeps the design sleek and compact and it works perfectly well--better than most actually, and quite innovative. I think it's safe to assume that you'll have something appropriate with you if you've gone to the trouble to pack this wonderful little peppermill along with you--and I strongly recommend that you make this gem your erstwhile travel companion. The foil blade on your waiter's style corkscrew will no doubt offer an elegant solution to adjusting the grind.

Better when purchased new

I bought this one used, and I can tell it was used a bit… hard. The one that bought used at REI (returned because it “worked too slow”) works excellently and I wanted a second grinder for Celtic sea salt. I take them car-camping and when I cook at other folks’ houses. Some of the interior gears of this one are a bit more worn than I’d like… but that’s what happens when you buy a pre-owned product unseen. That being said, I love GSI products, and I’m happy with this purchase.

Great little mill, but almost too small

well constructed, durable, a little small in my hands (male, 5'8") for a comfortable grind, but lightweight and big enough for weeks of use on one fill of peppercorns. Has a cap on the business end, presumably to keep it clean. I'd probably leave the cap home and put it in a ziploc snack bag instead. Small and light enough for backpacking, but I'd only bring it if I was trying to impress someone. I don't need fresh ground pepper on my trips. But if you are into fancy cooking in the backwoods, this is the pepper mill to bring.

Best travel pepper grinder I've seen

I bought one of these 25 years ago and lost it. Although I think I'll find it I bought a new one to use for now. It's easy to use, grinds perfectly, is made of high quality materials and is always with us on all trip from backpacking to overnights in bnb's.

Lost one during a trip. Can’t live without my ground peper!

This is the perfect ground paper grinder if you travel and can’t live without it. It’s small and works perfectly. Try to buy it for 11$. All the other prices are overpriced.
