It's okay but.....

substitute for a globe

I needed a globe and couldn't afford it at the time, so I bought this. I blew it up and was pleased with the result as a substitute for a globe. It is as accurate as it can be for what it is; continents are clear, major countries are accurate, though of course, many are missing. Since I needed it to teach about the equator and the pole and continents, it was quite sufficient. I now have a globe, and this has become a toy which the children enjoy using, and they talk about the continents and the equator and poles, so I am pleased.

A beach ball that thinks it's a world map

Maybe I'm asking too much from a children's toy. But the brand is "Learning Resources", after all, so you'd think they would take some care with what children will learn from using this item. As a beach ball, it's OK. It takes a lot of effort to inflate, but it seems pretty durable. As a globe, it's inexplicably bad. First of all, despite using five colors instead of the minimally sufficient four, multiple sets of adjacent countries are colored the same (e.g., Jordan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia). But despite this apparent carelessness, someone bothered to make Jammu and Kashmir a distinct color and label them as "disputed territory" (which they are, but most maps show them as divided between India and Pakistan). The problems extend beyond just coloring. The globe is made of six panels joined with visible seams. For some reason, the lines of longitude pull away from the seams at high latitudes and bunch together in the middle of each panel. And the lines just look like they're hand-drawn (badly), instead of projecting an authoritative map into whatever format they needed for their printer. Many cities are placed incorrectly. Americans may notice (despite the lack of state borders) that Las Vegas is placed in California; Albany, NY is somewhere in central Massachusetts; and Anchorage defies its name by relocating hundreds of miles inland. So does St. Petersburg, Russia. Perhaps the most bizarre error related to cities is that the capital of Georgia is labeled "Jiflis", a misspelled version of the imperial Russian name, although it's been called "Tbilisi" for generations. I could go on, but you get the point. The globe comes with a booklet of educational games. One of the games involves going down the alphabet and naming a country that starts with each letter. I'm just imagining some kid getting to 'J' and saying "Jammu and Kashmir".

Works Well

If you need an inexpensive globe, this is a good choice. I am using it for my 1st and 5th grader. We actually had this exact one when my oldest was in kindergarten and it worked well then too. I will say, it can be hard to read, especially for kids who are just learning where countries are. It's also very tempting to be played with as a toy and not just as a resource.

Difficult to inflate and nearly impossible to deflate.

This world globe "beachball" is a gift for our grandchild, and my only complaint is that it was really difficult to inflate, and nearly impossible to deflate. Otherwise, this is a pretty good globe, the printing is fairly clear and has a hanging loop at the North Pole. Good for kids to learn the location of the world's nations (the major ones, at least.)

It's great for little ones

While it doesn't have pinpoint accuracy, it's great for showing little ones the scale of our planet, where countries and continents are in relation to each other and it seems fairly durable. My two-year old has tried to eat it and use it as a football but it survived. Delivery was not the quickest but ok. Good value for money.

This is the worst product I have ever seen.

This is the worst product I have ever seen. After inflating it's shape looks like a averrhoa carambola. Moreover, its font type is not clear enough to read. I will never recommend this product.

Please dont buy this Globe, they are making fool.

This Globe was not up to the mark, they took too much time to deliver. Globe was not good as its showing in picture. Quality was not mentioned anywhere. This is kind of rubber balloon. That was a embarrassing situation for me when my friend shared her experience about this globe. I should not brought this on line. I wanted a wow to my friend through this Globe but they laughed on me. Sorry but it was not right choice. I made a big mistake.
