Wanted to love, came slightly damaged

I love this interactive and family friendly option for a countdown to Christmas. It’s a decoration in itself and a fun activity similar to an advent calendar without the candies/gifts. We’re doing this countdown with our 18-month old and while we have to work on him understanding once a night, he gets so excited when it’s “tree time”. The cute ornaments stick well and seem sturdy enough. I love that they can be stored in the base. I am a little disappointed that the one I received came damaged. The top of the tree is pretty crushed such that the magnet star doesn’t stay well attached at the top, we have to have it down a bit otherwise it falls off at the slightest touch. I didn’t notice soon enough to return or replace because I ordered this in advance of December. It’s worth noting that the backside is more like the back of packaging, not as decorative as the front, so this would probably be better displayed against a wall or something where we have ours on our table right now. Maybe I’ll create some art to attach to the back.

Great for Younger Kids!

I loved this Christmas Countdown. I enjoy that it is not gift centric and is not an advent calendar, but a fun countdown to Christmas Day. The wooden pieces are made well and will last for a while as you only use it for 25 days a year. The bright colors and fun patterns were engaging for my toddler. Highly recommend!

Difference of 2 ornaments on each, $9 difference in pricing seems unfair....

Here's my problem with this. The design is fine and it's a wonderful, fun idea...BUT what you don't know is when you choose 'Angel' there are 2 ornaments that will be different. You will get an Angel and a Baby Jesus vs. if you choose 'Santa' you will get 2 ornaments that will be a Santa and a Reindeer. All other ornaments will be the same. What I don't understand is WHY the 'SANTA' version is almost $9 MORE than the 'Angel' one. More popular perhaps? Still a very unnecessary markup in the price. I also wasn't happy with the way my delivery of 2 of these (plus a few other items) were packaged, the little bit of 'bubble air pods' did not prevent one of my tree's outside cellophane wrap being all torn up upon arrival. The other one was fine, thankfully because one is a gift. We also just took a Santa sticker and placed it over the Baby Jesus ornament and kept the Angel one as is saving ourselves $9 by doing so...

Great for little ones

We purchased the Melissa & Doug wooden Advent Calendar for our toddlers to play with during the Christmas season, not to use as an advent calendar. They love counting the numbers on the tree and love placing the magnetic ornaments. Terrific for practicing fine motor skills! The base of the tree has a nice space to store the ornaments. So far we’ve only misplaced the star! The tree and the pieces are sturdy but will fall apart if chewed on or dumped in the bathtub or chucked down a couple flights of stairs, but with typical use it should last many Christmases! I just hope we find the star!

My Twins Love This Advent Calendar!

Last year my twins were almost four and I wanted to get them an advent calendar. I really wanted this one but it wasn't available when I was looking, which, admittedly, was at the end of November or early December. I made a mental note to look for it earlier this year so I found this one again and ordered it this past summer so we've had it for over four months and used it since the beginning of this December! This Melissa & Doug Wooden Advent Calendar is a wonderful idea for children so they can see the countdown until Christmas! The calendar is in the shape of a tree and is made of durable wood, like all of the other Melissa & Doug items we've purchased. It measures 16 inches high and 12 inches wide at the bottom of the tree (not counting the box). There are 24 circles, which are labeled so kids can see which day is next for the ornament. There is an open box at the bottom to store the ornaments and star until you use them. The tree has pretty designs on it with green glitter and the box at the base of the tree is nicely decorated. There are 24 round ornaments and one star (for Christmas Day), all of which are magnetic. The entire backs of all 25 pieces are magnetic and they easily stick to the tree. The ornaments are a bit bigger than a quarter (please see pictures) and are beautifully decorated. On the back of the calendar is a pretty Christmas poem to read aloud. This calendar is recommended for ages three plus and is made in China. My twins are almost five and were so excited to use this! Since they are at the age where they know most of their numbers, it was easy for them to add a new ornament every morning plus the order is easy to follow. They were so excited to put the ornaments on the tree each morning that they did that first instead of saying "good morning" to us! I feel this calendar is very well-made and it looks really nice without looking gaudy. The only disappointment I have about this tree is that the box at the base is open which is fine for the Advent season but could present some potential problems when I go to store it. I'll just put the ornaments in a sandwich bag which works for me and isn't worth removing any stars. Overall, we love this advent calendar and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a wooden one for kids or even for yourself! It's durable, looks nice, and is fun for the whole family. I think kids ages three and older would love this because it is a fun way for them to count down until Christmas (plus it reinforces learning their numbers!). I definitely don't recommend for kids who are younger than three because they could choke on the ornaments. I see this being a fun Christmas tradition for us for several years and am happy we have one!

A fun and durable advent calendar that's fun for all ages!

I bought one for myself 3 years ago and gave it to my 1st great-grandson the next year. He loves magnets and it was perfect for him. I purchased this one for great-grandson #2, for the same reasons and since the first one survived for 2 yrs with a toddler.

Despite the 5 star review, there is something I don't like

Overall this product serves it's purpose in a fun and sustainable way. We use this in lieu of a tree and it's magical with string lights. However SOMETHING IS MISSING. This product is so close to being perfect. To me, the one flaw is the absence of day 25 on the calendar. A solid fix would be adding day 25 as the placeholder for the star. If that's the intention, make it more clear! Having the star as day 25 and the final element of the advent calendar makes it more special

Best Advent calendar

I love this advent tree! It’s nice and big and sturdy, but still lightweight. The magnetic ornaments are adorable, and they stick to the tree beautifully. And it’s so handy to have their container attached to the tree. Overall, a great acquisition!

Ornaments are too small for toddlers.

This is my second purchase. I remember the first tree had larger ornaments. They are 1.5 inches wide and the numbered circles are 1.25 inches wide. These are a choking hazard. I asked a rep from M&D about a Canadian version (which had hockey sticks, touques, Canadian flag and mittens), but she said she didn’t remember a Canadian version. I KNOW I’ve seen one!

My Son Loves This
