Worth the Price, and Then Some

I was nervous about buying a resin statue, however after reading the positive reviews here, I took a chance. I'm happy that I did. The quality of this statue is superb, and it's a perfect size for a small private practice altar. It has good weight, excellent detail, and most importantly, does not at all look like it's made of any sort of plastic. I'm a Zen student, and appreciate the very simple design of this Buddha. I have one, not quite complaint, but more of a question to pose to others who are reviewing here. I noticed on this Buddha, as well as many (if not most) Buddhas sold online, that the thumbs on the Cosmic Mudra (or Zazen Mudra), are not touching. In the way I was taught the mudra, the thumbs serve as a sort of "attention barometer": if the thumbs are too far apart then one's attention is distant and not focused, if the thumbs are too firmly pressed together, then one is trying to focus too aggressively. Does anybody have any insight into why the Buddha is represented this way?

Nice statue, horrible packaging

Horrible packaging, surprised it arrived in one piece, and it got styrofoam everywhere upon opening. Took me a long time cleaning all the little pieces off of the statue, especially in his hair. Had to use a toothpick and then rinse it with water to get it all out - I dried it off immediately and didn't see any noticeable damage to the finish. There were also a few scratches on the paint - but I think that adds to the worn texture of the statue. All in all, it is nice statue for the price and I like it - as others have mentioned it looks better in person than the product image. Perfect size for my zen altar and I'm happy with the purchase.

A very lovely Buddha statue

The others are right--this beauty does look better in person! I wanted a Buddha statue for a home altar I'm setting up, to help establish a sanctuary for peace, tea drinking, and a daily meditation practice. I had high demands going in--I wanted brass, I wanted Earth-Witness mudra, I wanted it yea-high but no higher, etc. When I found this one, I was struck immediately by the aura of serenity and repose. It is not brass, it is not Earth Witness mudra (technically not even Sakyamuni, as it is modeled after Amida at Kamakura), it is a wee shorter than the others I looked at--but I just couldn't beat that feeling of peace that washes over me every time it draws the eye. A lovely addition to any home practice.

A Good Buy

We dubbed him Lil’ Bud, and he’s a very good Buddha. My fiancé loves how sturdy and zen he is, a good meditating partner. Worth the price and came safely packaged. If anyone else in our life needs a Lil’ Bud, we will know where to go.

Great value - inspiring Buddha statue!

I received this product very quickly from the seller. And I was amazed at the quality for the price! The appearance is inspiring and has the look of a very heavy stone statue...but is much lighter (though heavy enough to stay rooted in position). It is large and has a real presence (but not too large). I bought this to put under a bamboo plant in my office for reminder of Buddha's teachings (looks like Buddha under the bodhi tree), but upon seeing it out of the box I was very tempted to keep it at home...I still might get one for the home. The shipping was first-rate - very secure! I cannot say more, other than I really love the product and am staggered I paid so little for it!

Relatively disappointing! See photos.

This is the second identical Buddha statue I purchased from this vendor. The first one I bought a few years ago and recently gave it as a gift thinking that I will buy the same one for myself. To my disappointment the quality of the product seems to have diminished. While the first statue was heavier and appeared more solid and the look of it resembled stone, the new one seems lighter and more plasticy and the color is darker and shiny. The overall look is kind of cheap! I have included pictures of both statues for comparison.

I've been looking for a specific Buddha sculpt high and low that resembles the Daibutsu statues of Japan. Kamakura in particular. Although not exact, this particular sculpt evokes a likeness unlike all the other statues out there. The quality is solid and has the finish is exactly what I am looking for. I think I will buy this again and leave one at the office! AWESOME! 5 stars!!

He seems pretty chill in the little shrine I'm putting together. Heavier than I thought he'd be, I might have assumed he was made of a light wood if I hadn't read the description on here. I think he is supposed to be Amitabha Buddha if that makes a difference to anyone. If you would like a nice image of a Buddha for whatever purpose without spending big bucks, this statue is a good choice.
