Very happy, but... bald guy review
UPDATE: Please also read rest of review. I wanted to update after owning this hat for a couple years. In hot weather I find the hat, well, hot. Still a good hat, but too hot over 80 degrees. I just ordered the OR men's transit sun hat, which is vented better. I hope it is cooler. End of update. I am bald. I don't wear hats much of the time. But when outdoors for prolonged periods, I'd be foolish not to. I like baseball caps when hiking, and stocking caps when I sleep outdoors. This is the first wide brimmed hat I have owned. I live in Texas now, and the sun has been hitting me hard, and it was about time I found more protection. I ordered this thing on account of that and the reviews I found here. Really accurate reviews. It is a hat I may grow to love. It does a great job of shading my neck and ears and parts of my shoulders. It is very lightweight, and can be crumpled into a cargo pocket. I must say, it is hot on my bald head, because it sits right on the flesh. I adjust it up and it can maintain a bit of space. It fits well, just transfers heat pretty directly. The venting is really not as much as I'd like in this 90 to 105degree weather... but I think they drew a thin line, trying to afford rain, or colder weather, protection as well...? The price is really fair, and most of all, my sweetheart loves it on me... so there you go... send a dozen more. It's going to Yellowstone in a couple months... along with a baseball cap and stocking hat. Bald guys need hats. Oh yeah, a bandanna in my pocket as well.

PERFECT for sunny, humid, days... (And dry ones too!)
I cannot say enough good things about this hat. It is absolutely great! we had a three-day 20 mile hike through the Florida Everglades where it was 100° and 100% humidity. After studying a lot of products, I decide to get this hat, which far exceeded my expectations! There were over 100 of us and several people were complaining about their hats (which ranged from straw hats to hats like mine, though nobody had on OR hat other than my wife and I) A couple of things really set it apart as the best hat I've ever had: * It covers you perfectly, front and back * Adjustable draw cord is perfect! You can make it tighter if you're going in the water, or looser. BUT, make sure you get the right hat size to begin with. I ordered a couple of sizes to make sure I got the right one. The sizing diagram on their website was accurate for me * You can dip it in water, put it on your head and it suffers no deterioration * It is stain resistant, water resistant, it floats in the water * Mine did not smell at all from all the sweat! i don't know if that was an abberation, or what. * Vents on hat front and back are ingenius * it can be smashed down in a backpack and DOESNT lose it's shape!!! How cool is that! On another trip now and REALLY wish i brought it. I probably sound like an OR employee but I promise you I am not! Read my other reviews. A product has to be either really good or really bad for me to take my time and review it. Happy trekking!

Great Sun Protection..!!
This is ultimate sun hat I have ever worn, that provides the most comprehensive protection. It is pretty lightweight, and is made of materials that claims to offer UPF 50+ sun protection. According to me, following are the features that sets it apart from the other sun hats you have in the market. WIDE BRIM: This one has the widest brim that I have ever seen on a hat, especially on the back side. I have tried to give you an idea of the measurements in one of the images I uploaded. This means that only minimal sun rays finally gets to your face and neck, even in extreme conditions. VENTILATION: This one has vents and mesh lining in the crown which helps keep your head cool and aids in moisture management as well. DRAWCORD / CHINCORD ADJUSTMENT: This is an important feature for me that i have often found missing in the other hats. There is a drawcord adjustment towards the back side of the hat which helps in adjusting the fit and makes sure that it sits firm on your head even in windy conditions. There is of course a chin cord adjustment as well, which if you don’t want to use, can be easily tucked away towards the interior of the hat. SUNNY / RAINING - NO PROBLEM: So it’s not just made for the sunny days in my experience, this could be worn even during the rains and it protects your head and neck from getting wet. Just dry off the soaked hat and its ready to be worn again. All in all, the best all-rounder hat I have ever purchased..!!

A Small Medium, No Way To Make Bigger; Better For Small Head
I have been wearing Outdoor Research bucket-type hats for several years. Usually I give them 5 stars, but I am giving this 4 stars because the medium is a little smaller than I normally get from OR and the adjustment only allows you to make it smaller. The hat just fits me and when I pull it down on my head there is not much chance the wind will it pull it off. I note in one review that the writer has a small head and the hat fits fine using the Velcro adjustment. If you wear a medium, you buy this at your own risk. If you wear a small, you can't go wrong

This Medium Fits Me Fine, But Can't Be Made Bigger, Only Smaller
This is a good hat. Looks good and great sun protection. These are the reasons that I have been wearing Outdoor Research hats for a few years. This "medium" hat fits me fine, but there is no way to make it bigger if it didn't. Most other "medium" OR hats I've owned had more flexibility than does this one. Keep that in mind if you normally wear "medium". You can make it smaller, but not larger. Outdoor Research hats are well made, you can be sure of that. There is a chin strap if you want to use it, i generally remove it because it fits tightly enough that the wind is not likely to snatch it from my head. I am giving the hat 5 stars
