Not clear

Great tray for my cat food bowls. Easy clean up. However it’s not clear. It’s a transparent black. Would love color options.

Was happy to get this, so I can see if food was underneath it

I read a review that someone kept tripping over this tray. Well, I've tripped over it going into the kitchen a couple of time, today I spilled my puppy's water all over, so I rearranged everything to keep it out of my way. This tray is easy to clean when my puppy eats. She still picking her food up and is putting it on the floor sometimes. At least I can see if food is under this tray. A simple wipe with a wet paper towel keeps it clean. Will continue to use it. It is sturdy and if put in a special spot for your pup, there's no chance of tripping over it. Overall I believe it will work, maybe. Regarding whether my small pup likes it is uncertain. She picks up her food and drops it on the floor to eat it. Trying to train her not to do this. I was using the silicone mat for a few months. I hated it, the food would be under the mat, all over it, and beyond. It was very difficult to clean every time my puppy ate, which could be 3 times a day. I hated the feel of it and the color. (ended up with the ugly gray). Again, it was not easy to wipe off at all. Had to put it under the faucet after her meals. If I could return it, I would, thinking about it to see if Ican.

Perfect Size, Traps Spills

My cat is like my parents' dog: she usually picks up her food, then scoots back, drops it on the floor, THEN eats it. I feed my cat both wet and dry food, and the wet food on the floor was getting disgusting. Previously I had been using two place mats, layered, under her food dishes and water bowl. Besides showing every drop of food that fell on them and soaking up her wet food gravy, I didn't like how easily you could see spills on them, not to mention they were not absorbent enough to catch all of the water so I was checking often to see if it had seeped underneath (she tends to slide into her food/water area sometimes when playing). All of those issues are solved with this baby! 1) Size: I had such a tough time searching for the right size mat for the space: many dishes were too wide and not deep enough, or too deep. As you can see from my photo, it holds her little dry food and water bowls, plus her wet food bowl. I am so happy it aligns perfectly in the spot I needed it to go. 2) The Lip: I was worried the lip might be weird for her to step over and eat, but she seems to actually eat over her bowls more now- I think she likes how the plastic feels under her feet. It's high enough that you could have a bigger water bowl and still not worry about it spilling out of the tray. 3) Color: The spilled food isn't as noticeable now since the mat is a translucent black color, and I feel confident that cleaning it will be a breeze (WAY easier than cheap fabric place mats). 4) Sturdy!: Not sure why people have commented that this is not that sturdy, it feels very sturdy to me! Definitely non-skid, too, which is great considering her playing habits. But even if her water does spill, I never have to worry about my floors again.

Ant-Thwarting Moat

Ants LOVE cat food, especially wet cat food. And if they find something good, even once, they leave a chemical trail inside the walls of one's house which keep the scouts coming back, season after season, year after year. My cat's a messy eater, so just one moat isn't enough. The point? I use this tray to complete a double-moat system. It sounds extreme, but I host events at my house EVERY WEEK and nothing makes a guest decline food like seeing an ant! On top is a small salad plate with wet food. That's held up by the smallest of a detachable 3 tier cake plate stand. That sits inside a wider bowl which has soapy water in it. That is inside this tray, also with soapy water in it. I occasionally move it from room to room, on top of hardwood floors. It's sorta like a big-rimmed version of a baker's cookie sheet, but deeper and with a wide lip. With this system, when kitty spills food, most of it falls into the plastic tray. Also, if kitty pushes bowl to edge of rim (hasn't happened yet) the 1st moat (bowl holding cake plate pedestal) is still in effect. (More about moats, but unrelated to this product) The dry food I put in deep cereal bowls (labeled for easy refilling) and put it upon an 8" plastic under-plant saucer, then fill it with water (and a little dish soap which makes ants sink instead of swim). Those rest upon two standard-shelving size laminated particle boards I got from a hardware store, lining a wall in my bedroom (but occasionally I move them). I have just one cat but like to free fee 5-6-7 types of food at a time.

Easy clean up

One of my dogs makes a gigantic mess everytime she eats. The silicon mast I had before were so hard to clean. This is the perfect solution. So easy to clean and dry.

Keeps your floor dry from excess dog water!

While browsing a Kickstarter video for a dog product a while back, I noticed that in the background of the video that the person's dog water bowl was in a tray similar to this, and a light bulb went on in my head. I have a linoleum floor in my kitchen and a corgi that is very enthusiastic about drinking. Long have I dealt with getting wet socks while walking through after he has a drink. Upon seeing this, I had to find a solution. I found a variety of different trays and absorbing pads, but finally settled on this tray because of the shape and color. Now I have a blissfully dry kitchen floor, and considerably dryer socks. He will still occasionally sniff a foot right after drinking, resulting in a wet sock, but that is no fault of this wonderful product. I do wish it was a tad bit wider so that I could put his water dispenser at a different angle, but this works wonders, so I'm too happy to dock it even a half star.
