Great value for the money
Absolutely zero issues with assembly or operation. It works exactly as advertised. Part quality is excellent with no blemishes or missing pieces. Assembly does take some thought due to the variety of ways this can be installed. Plan it using the instructions carefully. The rope routing and length also takes some thought but is easy enough to do once you understand it. The few complaints about "not enough rope for two" needs context. This is two complete sets and there IS enough rope for two...depending on your ceiling height and if you use the tie between the hooks to keep from spreading. For an 8' ceiling, it should be enough. For my 9'6" ceiling in the barn with mounting OVER the joists, it was enough for the hooks to sit a foot off the floor with the end of the rope in my hands at chest level (I'm 6'2"). There was no extra available for tying the hooks together, however. I used extra rope I already had for that. Again, think ahead on your ceiling height and situation. Mine worked out just fine and I'm happy with the purchase.

Not just for kayaks!
EDIT: the first time I tried to lower it with weight the 2 lag bolts that screwed one of the pulleys into the 2 x 4 sheared in half. Recommend using your own hardware and not what’s included. Not exactly the recommended use in a few ways, but I used 2 hoists to suspend a queen size mattress on the ceiling in my garage. The whole setup with mattress and plywood weighs around 120 lbs, so using 2 hoists should be well within its capacity. Installing was relatively easy, there are lots of YouTube videos which helped especially with threading the pulleys. Lifting it up myself was pretty easy too, I saw a couple videos where guys complained lifting a big kayak was difficult, but I didn’t have any issues doing it by myself. I added a couple ratchet straps to help with sagging and be a fail safe in case the brake fails. Seems solid so far

If you have a kayak you need this.
Installed 4 of these, well thought out design very happy with purchase. I couldn't make the 5 trips to the hardware store and $50 in parts pieces and rope for what these sell for. After hanging 4 kayaks I would say these are worth double of what they are charging.

Might not be what you need
I was pretty excited to get my kayaks up off the floor and up to the ceiling; Turns out I'm looking for a plan B. My biggest mistake was not first measuring the height of the garage + height of the kayak + length the hoist and hooks would hang + additional hang from the straps. I mounted directly to (8' ground clearance) joists, but with all the slack out and the kayak as far up as I could get it, the bottom of the kayak was at about 5' 8" off the floor. I'm 6'1" so that was immediate grounds for a plan B. More of an issue though is that my plastic kayak doesn't like to sit firmly in the straps themselves; the straps want to slide a bit, and with that much weight overhead...I didn't like taking that risk with little kiddos around. The hardware is all fine, but be sure to consider room for a rope to fit through a hole in the bottom of the mounting bracket...you don't learn that until the rope threading phase *after* you've mounted the brackets. Also pay attention to the orientation of the pulley with each bracket - it matters. Murphy's law made it so I also got excited and installed 2 of the same bracket, not realizing there are 2 different ones, and I missed the one with the brake. Oof. Anyhow, this might well be a good solution for your needs, but 1) REALLY pay attention to your ground clearance, 2) Consider potential strap slippage on slippery materials (like smooth kayak plastic) and associated risk.

If you spent hundreds on your roof racks...
If you spent hundreds of dollars on the roof racks for your crossover go everywhere vehicle, these are not likely the storage hoists for you. If you put the 'yaks in the back of the truck and take off, they might be. What I found with my set is that the rope is near worthless if you plan to hoist the 'yak weekly vs. once a year for winter storage. The straps are slick as snot on the hull without considerable treatment (think "rubberized material AND a strap in between"). The mounting hardware and pulleys are light to medium duty and I will not / do not trust the tension lock to hold my lower cost 'yak above my fairly expensive truck without being tied off to a wall cleat much better than the one provided. Would I buy this product again? Perhaps, but would temper my expectations with the reality of what can be obtained at this price point. They could be better, but I'd expect to pay twice or more to get there. You choose.

over all good, may need to modify for low ceiling
over product was great but if you have low ceiling or want your kayak higher may need to modify it a bit to remove the long hook arms and use carabiners instead

Good system with some improvements
I bought the 2 pack of hoists for my Pelican 10 foot Kayaks. There are lots of comments about the poor quality ropes, so I followed Joseph's recommendations and bought better ropes. The instructions recommend that you don't install theses over vehicles or walkways (really?), but that's kind of where you need to put them. Thus the new ropes. I did use sections of the supplied rope to join the hooks together as it doesn't move. I used 50 feet of rope for each hoist and did not cut it. The instructions say to cut it in half, but you would end up with one length shorter. I just fed each end through the pulleys and tied it off and I don't have to worry about cutting to size. I installed my brackets 5 feet apart, which is shorter than the instructions say, but it holds the straps more securely. My kayaks hang 34" below the ceiling.

with modification, they work well
Bought this lift to get my kayak up out of the way in the garage. Other reviewers commented on the ceiling height needed and they are correct. I couldn't use the straps provided, kayak was hanging in the way of the door. Instead I connected the lift hooks directly to the kayak at the front and back using a ring through the carrying handles. I had to locate the pulley assemblies to match the kayak length. I also used an electric winch I had (mounted to the ceiling of the garage) to raise and lower the kayak. Saves trying to pull up, with brute force, a 55 pound kayak with about 15-20 extra pounds of stuff - anchor, depth sounder, paddles, safety kit. Whole setup works fine. I push a button and the kayak comes down onto the 2-wheeled carrier I have and away I go to the truck. When done I push a button and the winch lifts the kayak back up to the ceiling.

Nice product
I used this product to suspend several 50 lb kayaks (1 hoist per kayak) from the ceiling of my garage. The product is sturdy, easy to use and is, I believe, a safe (by which I mean the product is rated for 125 lbs, but is clearly engineered to hold more AND the brake prevents slippage). My only complaint is that the installation instructions were unclear on several important points such as how to string the ropes properly so the brake works and how long to cut the ropes, as such I had to do some rework to get things right. All in all, I recommend the product.

Effective and efficient storage system
Overall a pretty good product so far. Relatively easy to follow instructions and simple to install. For the install there are many ways to do so. In our set up or garage is drywalled and we were lucky enough that we were installing our system parallel to the joists. This allowed for 2 simple 1x4 mounting boards (to save space) and allowed a 1 person set up (about 30 minutes). Once installed the system is easy to use and so far holds/llifts/lowers a 10' Pelican Kayak. Installation used all factory parts, but I will keep any eye on the rope for possible replacement for higher grade. Couple of notes for installation/use. 1. The system does not go tight to the roof. Kayak hangs 33" below the roofline (1 inch mounting boards+design of the pullies+strap system+depth of the kayak. Our garage is 8'4" high so clearance is just under 6' (we have small car) 2. Depending on which way you are mounting you may want to use longer/additional lag bolts for the mounting board. System comes with 2" lag screws to secure the brackets. 3. When cutting rope, you will need to scorch the ends to avoid further fraying.
