Cheap plastic swinging doors

The trash can is made of Rubbermaid plastic which has a justly deserved reputation for durability. The outside of this lid is made of the same material... which begs the question: why do they change to cheap plastic when making the swinging top? It is worth it to me to have the ease of use but if you are considering the use of a standard lid then you should know this item is not uniformly made with typical Rubbermaid durability.

Takes a licking and keeps on ticking

So I waited to review and after two months of use I can tell you this thing is made for pain. I've run in to and knocked it off, I have basically thrown it, in all my gracefulness, while changing the trash and despite having cement floors it hasn't even flinched. The color has distorted slightly, from the sun or the trash itself, but that is it. So pretty darn pleased with it.

Not Durable

Item lasted about a year before it broke. One side of the metal swing somehow came off, and it's impossible to place back into the track. This is an expensive purchase. Buy used if possible.

FUNCTIONAL not cosmetic damage on warehouse deal

This is getting a low star rating because it was a warehouse deal represented as having cosmetic damage when it really had functional damage. and it is obvious to anyone who would have "inspected" the product. The metal bar that goes in the side of the lid flaps to make them swing back shut is missing and that side hangs down all the time. The bar is in the other side and it does swing back into position. I do not feel the discount adequately compensates for a FUNCTIONAL not cosmetic problem.

Very cheaply made hinges, look underneath.

Thin plastic tabs are all the lids hinge on. Counterweight isn’t sufficient to self close the doors after dropping refuse through it. Only closes sometimes. It costs almost as much as the can. As for the slim Jim can itself it also is just flimsy plastic. They sell an optional substantial looking stainless steel dolly with caster wheels to roll the can around lopsided pairing.
