Toxic Smell

I had to return these files. They smelled overwhelmingly of gasoline or similar petroleum product. I didn't notice a smell originally, but after being stored in a cabinet for 3 days, the smell was horrible. Felt like I was punched with a chemical bomb when I opened the cabinet door. I tried to air them out for several hours outside and the smell is still pretty bad. The smell permeated the cabinet, so it now smells bad/off too. Our office tries to prevent environmental toxins.....no polyethylene clear plastic storage boxes that out-gas, low or no-toxin cleaners, etc. Personally, I've had cancer due entirely to environmental toxins. So these toxic files? Definitely a No-Go! I had ordered other expandable files at the same time, from Amazon Basics and received them yesterday. They've been in the cabinet close to 24 hours. No such smell. I'll be ordering that brand from now on.

Smead File Pockets.

These are very nice file pockets. They are well constructed with reinforced sides. The stock is heavy and they are sturdy for those files that require some thickness. The pockets expand to 1.75 inch at the bottom. I purchased the straight top edge as they are much neater in the file cabinet. I do not use a hanging file folder with these as the back is a full 9.75 inches tall, with the front being 9 inches. Thus, they stand right up there with your regular hanging folders. You can place a label sticker on the top of the back of the pocket and it will not be fully covered by the front flap of the pocket. These pockets stand up nicely between other hanging folders, so you will be able to read your label. I typed my labels close to the top. These pockets are great for holding bank statements, insurance benefit explanations, or any file that you find growing rapidly. I plan on purchasing another box of these so I have them on hand. Thanks, Smead, for this great product!

Super convenient size and style

For projects that needs only maybe a couple dozen pages of material, these are prefect. Pockets are great to collect materials of various sizes (full letter size, or brochures, or even slim product samples). The plastic pockets are too slippery -- paper is a much better material for this purpose. And these are quite sturdy although obviously not so much if you need to take them out in the rain.

Review for Smead File Pocket, Straight-Cut Tab, 1-3/4" Expansion, Letter Size, Redrope, 25 per Box (73214) - No fault with the seller - ordered on 4/18 and received on 4/21- very fast service. I thought I was ordering the same Smead pocket folders I had purchased in the past that I have been extremely pleased with. When I opened the box, they did not feel as substantial as others I have purchased. I checked the others I really prefer and found they were Smead No. 73224 1524E. I did not realize there were different standards, until now, and should have checked the particulars before placing my order. This does not suit my needs and will pay attention next time.
