Extremely Durable.. Built to go the distance.

This is a (Very) long term review of the Superwinch LT2000.. I purchased this winch back in June of 2013. Exactly 10 years ago. Unlike most other purchasers of this winch, instead of a Quad or a flatbed trailer, this winch was mounted on my home-made wheelchair lift in the back of my truck. A heavy duty gear motor handles the in and out function, but the winch lifts and lowers with the cable and pullies. I'm out and about quite a bit, so that winch can be used several times per day. 10 years of use in rain, snow and 115 degree Arizona heat is quite the torture test. Upon recent inspection, my Dad and I noticed that the cable spool was loose. It's just finally warn out. But still functioning. To be safe, we are going to replace it soon. Definitely with another Superwinch.. Though I'm thinking about a 3k this time.

Good quality, install was a pain.

Took me 4.5 hours to install on a 2014 Sportsman 400. There is nothing hard about the install but don't kid yourself if you havn't installed one of these or taken apart your ATV before its going to take you a good while. Instructions are basically 1 page showing you a wiring schematic and 2 pages of how not to get hurt using a winch...not kidding at all. YouTube is your friend, but even with helpful videos I spent a considerable amount of time figuring out how best to run the wires. My sportsman was pre wired for a winch but I had the hardest time getting to the cables which were buried inside the frame. Also had to make my own longer battery bolt as previous reviewers said because the original is not long enough once put the new cable on. The more body panels you can tale off the easier its going to be, I also had to remove my battery to rangle the cables into position. The relay box is HUGE, it will take up a good portion of your storage area.... I got the Super winch mount and it ended up very low.... so low I could not get my front cover back on. I had to unbolt the mount and also the fairlead, and hold it all up as high as it would go and rebolt and then it just barely cleared.... Weirrd... But it works, looks pretty cool, and you can't beat the price Update: I am lowering my rating to 3 stars, I would give it 2 but this winch IS rated at 2000 lbs. This winch just has no power whatsoever, I have been incredibly dissaponted with its petformance. I have been using it to move branches and small fallen trees and it just stalls out and won't pull. Just the other day I tried to use my atv to winch my k10 truck in nuetral a few feet on a level driveway and the winch wouldn't pull it! thats just sad....Just seems incredibly taxed all the time and not very useful. I don't feel confident this would pull my 700lb Polaris sportsman anywhere. I would consider this the absolute bare minimum winch to move only your ATV (probably not with you on it) and not much else.... Might work fine for a really light quad

Great winch for the price

This is a great package to get you started with an ATV winch. The winch itself is sufficiently powerful for midsize ATV's. It comes with everything you need to use the winch. With almost 50' of cable, there is plenty to get you out of most situations. The line speed is slow, so don't expect a swift recovery, but it gets the job done. Not really an ideal winch for use as a snowplow lift (also because of the line speed), but it still does a decent job. The line in/out switch is tactile, and has many mounting options. The power distribution box is a bit bulky, and was kind of a pain to mount inconspicuously. The wires from the power box to the control switch are excessively long for an ATV winch, so hiding them and keeping them out of the way can be a challenge, while the power leads from the box to the winch are almost too short. The included roller fairlead helps keep the winch cable in line while winching in, and helps keep the cable from fraying. All in all, this is a great winch, especially for the price. If you find yourself using a winch very frequently and at higher loads, then this might not be the winch for you. But with the use of a snatch block this winch is more than capable of getting most ATV's out of the mud, and for the most part a snatch block isn't needed.

Would not buy again

Worked well for the first few weeks of operating my snow plow on my atv. First issue was the steel cable snapped right at the crimp point for the hook. Replaced with a nylon rope and then shortly after that, the solenoid, or perhaps the winch itself, stopped reeling in. Just a faint click from the relay box but the cylinder does not reel the line in. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the winch itself, the relay/solenoid or maybe the thumb switch. For being priced in the higher end of the market, I would have expected better performance. I now have a winch that does not work properly and will likely have to buy a new one with winter approaching. Living in the mountains, a proper working winch for snow removal is very important.

Nice kit. The contactor box is kind of big, but it is a solid rig. You'll still need amounting bracket, but everything else is there. Update `12-31-14 Amazon did their part and I received the new winch well before the expected delivery. Before I sent this back, I called Superwinch and left a couple of contact numbers, and I never heard back from the technical support line where I left the message. Really nice. I'm glad I returned it and got a new one. I just tested the new one BEFORE installing it, and it works good so far, so I'll install it. Kudos to Amazon! 12-27-14 I went to install another one I ordered and low and behold, it would not power out. I am returning it for an exchange. This is the first time I will be using Amazon's exchange program, so we'll see how it works out. I am a litte disappointed in Superwinch, but it is what it is. I'll update after the return process is done and I see thast the new winch works. I am anticipating zero problems with Amazon's return process.

The hook is not as big as the one in the picture

I bought this winch mainly for plowing. On my last ATV I had a 1500lb super winch which worked perfectly. When I took this one out of the box I noticed the hook was REALLY small. It is so small it was a challenge to put it through the metal hole of the plow that lifts it up. It's smaller in size than my other 1500 lb Superwinch I had in my last ATV. I went to a hardware store and purchased a proper sized hook with added to the overall cost.

Disappointed with the wiring

Haven't actually used the winch yet but was disappointed that the cable to wire the winch to the quad battery etc wasn't long enough. The instructions that came with it we're poor and the online help was useless. I installed it on a 2021 Honda rancher. There was more instructions and wiring help that came with the WARN mounting kit
