Very course, need a bit smoother for very sharp knives.

The grooves are deep and those freshly sharpened knives must be used on this with great caution. Great for removing metal filings on blade, but wish it was a bit smoother.

Love this steel

I love this steel. Flat steels are so much better than round ones. Flat/oval steels produce a much straighter knife edge than with round steels and with fewer stokes across the steel. I use this conjuction withSmith's #3001 10-Inch Oval Diamond Sharpening Rod to sharpen the knife every month or so and hone every use with the WINCO Premium Oval Sharpening Steel. I have not had to take my knives to a stone in over year. I have used other flat/oval steels in the past likeF. Dick 11-inch Multicut Steel Flat Fine Cut 7650428 . The F. Dick is wider and usually has a magnetic polarity. But for $113.00 a little expensive, where as the WINCO is $19.00 and does just as good of job honing my knives. I highly recommend this product to amateur to professional cooks that need their knives honed well and fast.

great steel for the price

great steel for the price.the "blade" itself is decent quality.however the handle is not.this is a large ,heavy, no nonsense tool that gets the job done.like i said the price is hard to beat.ive had many steels and this works just as well as some of my more expensive models.i wish were offered with a nice handle even if the price was higher id be willing to pay it.all and all i for a budget chinese steel it works really well.

Fast ship cheap price

I'm a retired restaurant chef and have many knives & steels this works as well as my F. Dick, Woustof steels not as finally finished but at a fraction of the cost $$ would recommend most highly plus you can't beat it being 14"

Nice tool its supposed to come with metal ring to hang mine did not. Should not have been shipped. It was also late. Other than that buy this
