Never using glass again
Used for homebrewing. I was constantly breaking my glass ones. I looked into an electric one, but if you read the fine print, once it has fermented, you need a new calibration to a floating hydrometer for every recipe. Not useful for a homebrewer who makes a different recipe every batch. So I chose this one and it's worked great! I was nervous it wouldn't be accurate enough, but it actually had the same width between markings as my glass hydrometer, it just has less markings. I don't think my measurements are any less accurate than before, but even if so, I don't mind if my ABV is off by +/-0.05%

I won't buy a glass one ever again.
After I broke a glass hydrometer, I bought this one. So glad I did. I'm sure it's the only one I'll need and if not, I won't buy a glass one ever again!

Won't break if it drops. Has a range from 1.000 to 1.150 for fluid specific gravity measurements.
I note others have had difficulty with this hydrometer, but it has a big advantage over more expensive (and more precise) versions - it won't break if it rolls off the counter. This unit is 8.5" from the base to the top of the printed scales so you'll need a measuring cylinder of at least 9". Distilled water gave the proper reading of 1.00 when the unit was used correctly: place the unit into the fluid and bring it down to the point at which it seems ready to float, then lower it just a tad more, then release and take your reading. There are several scales, including a Brix scale as well as an alcohol-by-volume scale, but these are really just conversions from the specific gravity for which the available scale runs from 1.000 to 1.150. Note that due to the scale and product limitations, this hydrometer is limited compared to lab equipment. You can't, for instance, check out the specific gravity for your acetone supply as that would be about 0.79, but you can use whole milk as a test liquid (it should be 1.04 or so). I washed the product several times using dish soap and a soft sponge and didn't notice any deterioration of the print on the plastic. The unit comes in a plastic storage container which pulls apart at the middle (if you don't mistakenly rip it to shreds when unpacking the unit initially). No question that this isn't lab-grade gear, but you can tell the difference between readings of 1.010 and 1.015 if used in a consistent manner with fluids at the same temperature.

close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...
For me, this Hydrometer is pretty much impossible to use. It functions, but the markings are so broad in scope that you're getting a "best guess" measurement. The only thing I like about it is that it is made of plastic and seems relatively indestructible vs the traditional glass ones. I've broken a couple hydrometers while cleaning my beer equipment. The main reason you use one of these is to take as precise a measurement as you can of your starting sugar and ending sugar so as to know the ABV of your brew. In the picture I've provided you can see that a traditional hydrometer has a hash mark for every 2 points between 1.000 and 1.010 and again until 1.020 etc. This one only marks 1.000 and 1.050 with only 1 hash between 1.000, 1.010 and so on. Not very user friendly, not visually easy to use and frankly just a waste of time. I gave two stars because the materials are durable and it does float and do its job, but docked 3 because this is more a child's toy than a scientific instrument. If I wanted a rounded best guess, I wouldn't even measure at all. Save your money and buy a tool with more precise measurements.

Works Well!
I made some cider and measured the original gravity with this. After it was done (stopped bubbling), I wanted to get the final gravity, but it sunk too far into the jug to get a proper reading (jug's fault). The case it comes in wasn't tall enough to use either. Not a big deal, I was sure it was done fermenting. I didn't directly test the unbreakable aspect of this hydrometer, but it seems less likely to break than a glass one. It's easy to read, and the flat top makes it easy to grab out of a jug or thief if using one. I don't have a real preference of a glass hydrometer over a plastic one, so this one is just fine.

Not accurate, from my readings
I had the Brewer’s Elite, which I loved, but dropped it and it shattered. This is my first plastic, shatterproof Hydrometer. I tried it out on a batch that was previously measured before I broke my other hydrometer. At that time, which was only a few weeks ago, the alcohol by volume was around 12%. In my cylinder, the temperature measured at 69.3 which falls within the 68 range that needs no adjustment. I placed the hydrometer into the cylinder twisting along the way to ensure no air bubbles. When it came to rest I was surprised to see the alcohol content at 5% by volume. There was no change in smell or temperature from the last time I measured. It definitely smells much stronger than 5%. So, I question the accuracy, since it just measured 12% and this shows a reading of 5%, that’s a huge difference. I am not a beginner and have plenty of knowledge about brewing and hydrometer for more than 5 years, so I think I will go back to purchasing another Brewer’s Elite. I took a calibration reading with distilled water, it was lower than 1.000.

Not very precise
The scale is not very precise. I thas no markings lower than .99 so I wouldn't really recommend for wine. It is nice that it is calibrated for 68 degrees. It sticks to the side of the jar like thats it's real purpose in existence. Would not recommend this to anyone who wants something more than a ballpark measurement. It would probably work best for beer. As you can see from the attached photo: the first test run with the new hydrometer and all it can accurately tell me is that it is either beer or wine. Tested it side by side with my current hydrometer and I'll do more testing but it isn't looking great.
